Happy first day of Spring!

Mar 21, 2026 10:05 PM

Welcome to this dump of allergy and illness memes. Sometimes I make the memes themed, sometimes I don't. If you enjoy laughing without talking politics and escaping reality, you’ll love following this page!

Actually, I’m allergic to Autumn too

Used to take Benadryl every two hours but it didn’t do anything and was not sleepy. Had to switch meds. Now one makes me a zombie.

Like, why peanuts specifically? Why are other legumes okay, human body?

Gluten, soy, dairy. The top three.

Honestly, would appreciate this.

For real

I always forget that I’m allergic to Spring

Yay! You will now know me personally. Just call me Teddy (Bob’s Burgers ref)

Don’t you think I’m sexy?

The real reason I’m not outdoorsy

My kid was very worried that I ate popcorn at the theater. He told me he was worried that I was going to die.

I’ll take all of them

Hate those trees

Get it together, nose

I guess I’m allergic to nature’s mommy and daddy time

Seriously, let’s abolish this

I need one

Ugh

Life in the plains of America

The theory I heard about why allergies exist is that because our bodies had to deal with parasites for most of human evolution our immune system learned to essentially put mines all throughout our bodies that activate when a parasite is present and blow it up with all kinds of chemicals and trigger a big immune response. Now that we have hygienic standards these mines accumulate and when the body mistakes something harmless as a parasite you go into anaphylactic shock.

#7 Your immune system is still a badass when confronted with grass and trees. Unfortunately, it's also easily confused and begins attacking you.

#9 there was a gluten free Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant in San Antonio for a while. It was amazing and the wife loved it. It closed because the owner got an offer to run a hotel restaurant downtown. Haven't tried the new place yet, but it's too far to be regulars

I love that in Atlanta we have 5 digit pollen counts where 800 is considered HIGH.

Medical COVID masks keep pollen out

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks! Gotta get myself one.

Treat yourself to some locally sourced honey. Had a friend swear for years that it helps you adapt to the pollen you're being exposed to a little easier.

Then the cottonwood trees would bloom and my face would start melting like it did every year

I had one in my backyard. Beautiful tree. Made me sick every summer. Had to cut it down.

#4 For the same reason. With the leg, your body is trying to heal itself and the more it heals the more healed you are. With the peanut, your body thinks there's a problem so it tries to heal itself but the more it heals the worse you get. Repeat until dead.

I'm out with my family doing fun Spring Break things (zoos, museums, walking downtown, etc.) and my poor 8 year old is MISERABLE with the seasonal allergies. I ended up going on a store run just for more allergy meds/symptom relief for her while out and about today.

Congrats at most viral

Apparently I have allergies but had no idea. My only symptom was rhinitis. Never anything else. ENT told me to try Flonase just to see. Suddenly I can breathe. Whodathunk

I remember the first time I could smell. It was weird! Kinda like the first time you get glasses.

#2 You guys have seasons? -- Australia, where it's 8-months of summer.

5 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We basically have mostly summer and some winter the rest of the year is just the two seasons playing tug of war

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Basically the same where I live

I remember back when actifed used to work. Back before they changed the formula because people made meth out of it. *sigh* ... good times.

5 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

since it's apparently easier to buy meth than working cold medicine, someone published the steps required to turn meth into pseudoephredine. https://boingboing.net/2012/02/27/scientific-paper-of-the-day-h.html

#6 I'd be terrified to eat most Asian cuisine if I had a deathly shrimp allergy. So much shrimp paste, fish sauce, oyster sauce etc in those great dishes. It would suck to not be able to have that.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soy allergy here. Can’t eat Asian food unless I make it myself.

This app & vitamins from Seeking Health saved me. Truly.

I have chronic, allergy related sinusitis. Only two things really help: Benadryl, or weed. Guess which one I use most of the time.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmmmm gonna guess Benadryl.

#9 as a veteran in the service industry, and worked for 8 years in a place that PRIDED itself on being highly versatile in terms of dietary concerns. I have only but one thing to say. You always. Always. ALWAYS. take that shit seriously. Doesn't matter if you suspect or even know someone is lying about it. (Eg "I can't have gluten... anyway I'll have this thing that contains soy, it's fine"). You just shut up and put it on the ticket and check it twice. No hospital visits today. None ever.

Worked in a seafood restaurant and had a lady come in and say she was highly allergic to shrimp. She asked for her fries to be cooked in the fryer not used for seafood and no other seafood on the grill when hers was being cooked. Manage tried explaining oil rotation in the fryer and that we could not stop cooking for other customers when we had over 250 sat at that moment. She left saying she was going to complain to head office.

4 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah if you're highly allergic, don't go to a seafood restaurant... the risk of cross contamination there is pretty much 100%.

In around 2 decades of restaurant work, I only ever met to people with proper Celiac's, but the wheat allergy can be pretty prevalent. Shellfish is another big one along with tree nuts.

Oh, I also cooked with a dude from Guatemala who was allergic to pork proteins; I am *still* so very sad for him and I haven't seen that man in 7 years.

My teenage friend had it. Dude could eat like a horse... just not THAT

#19 Northeast BC, Canada got rid of it in the 70s, the rest of BC got rid of it this month, and now Alberta is talking about it. Very exciting

I got an allergy to soap... fucking soap. I can't use most hand soaps, body wash, laundry detergent, deodorant, dishwashing detergents, and some medicines.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow! Is there a specific ingredient that you’re allergic to?

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mostly cocamidopropyl betaine

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess at least you know that. But how do you clean anything? That’s gotta suck.

#15 Life has been good since I gave up on pills and started using a steroid spray... Fluticasone proprionate is the shit. (Don't take this as medical advice, and if you do try it, read and follow the instructions in the box. As always, check with a healthcare provider before starting any new meds.)

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I take that and two other allergy meds. Sometimes, don’t do anything.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn... Maybe shots? Benadryl works but knocks me the fuck out. (and has potential implications for dementia along with other anticholinergics...) Claritin (loratadine) might as well be placebo. But I can get through the high pollen season fine with generic flonase.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I stopped taking it a long time ago. Not it knocks me on my butt.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will not stand for this winter slander! It's my favorite three weeks of the year.

#6 so to anyone who speaks chinese, why is it when I say I want something "very spicy" they put a bunch of mushrooms, is it a simular word or what (btw I'm deathly allergic to mushrooms)

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are dozens of us! (People allergic to mushrooms)
I had an Italian waiter argue with me that truffles were not mushrooms. That was a fun night.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did they also think truffles are a delicious chocolate treat?
