We were getting ready for our trip and paid for a nice place.

Find out they terminated her account, banned her and notified the host.

She of course has a clean record but apparently when they did a background check on her they matched her with a wrong person who has the same name..

We are now attempting to contact Airbnb..

Edit: we have used Airbnb before on her account with no problems.
Edit2: I’ve been reading on their site and they say they use the persons DOB, and first/last name to conduct background check.. so I’m guessing this guy must’ve had the same DOB and name as her. (Her name is also used as a guys name.)

I had a friend jailed for over a week without charges because his name matched someone else’s.

There's a person who has my mom's exact name and bday, but has a criminal record and a lot of tattoos.

Applying to the bar, I discovered there was an incarcerated pedophile with exactly the same name as mine. I promptly told them it wasn’t me.

My sister Kathleen, and another Cathleen had the same social security number. Discovered this when sis tax trouble. Since my sister was

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

older they asked if she wanted to keep it. Of course my sis said no. Now THIS I want them to explain. And yes both are legal US citizens

My mom has the most middle aged white woman name in the world. Which also happens to be on the no-fly list. She always has to go 2 hrs 1/

Early to the airport for the inevitable security interrogation 2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the same name huh? let me know when she starts standing over you while you sleep.

8 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

Happens more often than you might think, especially if you have a common name. It means the background check people were not thorough.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If she's making you post this op. Wink twice and eat the distraction spaghetti

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did op wink?? I need to know!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't Americans have an identity number ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plot twist; OPs fiancee has been possessed by the ghost of Jeffrey Dahmer and the cops are "this close" to catching up to her.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get it all the time. People confuse me with a pedophile with the same name as me and worked in the same company as me. Weird.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Person with same name cancelled contract with the internet provider where I was a customer too. Guess whose connection was cut...

8 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Your dogs?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How does an internet provider in a country with 300 million people not practice the art of account ID's? Wow.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Why assume it's the states?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This happened to me when I got my first apartment. Someone with a similar SNN was a wanted felon in Missouri. Had to force them to fix it.

8 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 1

My current job did the same,. Guy had same first and last name and middle initial. Same state. They asked about my DUI I didn't have

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

"I see here you had a dui last year, care to explain that?" "I'm sorry, what? I don't have a dui." *writes down, clearly drunk at interview*

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

This might be the only pro to having a unique name. There aren’t many, if any, people with the same name as me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can sympathize. About had an issue a few years back, because I shared a name with a serial killer, apparently.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

having a criminal record doesn't stop you from being allowed to go on holiday or Get a hotel room? Discrimination!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

His girlfriend is Jody Foster

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife ran into this problem when we tried to get her a new car. They had the same full name and DOB. Lived in CA with warrants for arrest.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Background checks usually match on DOB and SSN.. maybe someone needs to be truthful here.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

You should take a look at this if you have time https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aRrDsbUdY_k (it goes into background checks about halfway)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of note: seems the system is more prone to error than I thought. Whoops.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Every time I buy a gun I have to wait 48hours for "Further details" on the background check. My worst crime was a speeding ticket.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had shit on my background check from my uncle of the same name that happened when I was 4 years old.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Personality doesnt really change after gender reassignment.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister had her student loans given to someone else with the same name and duplicate SSN.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get tested

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Before I was married my brother "accidently" took money out of my checking because our SSN are so similar & my parents gave us same initials

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Cool! Crazy physco girlfriends are great at sexy time. Blink twice if you need help.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

wtf is physco?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Short for physically coordinated

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's if Op has eye lids

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

+++1 laughed hard as shit

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you’re shit is that hard, I’d advise more water and fiber intake. Then ingest a spoonful of castor oil or drink a glass of prune juice

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Boy you will feel 50 lbs lighter in a day.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DOB, first and last name is not a valid form of ID so how can they properly conduct a background check?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These "background check" companies are non-government organizations with, as far as I can tell, little regulation. It would be a stretch to»

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

say that any particular screening has been done "properly", though presumably some are more diligent than others.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Must have*

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ahhhh thank you for this

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i’m with monica geller, over here. it bothers me so bad.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

physically. emotionally. socially.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you're sure this is just a mistake and your wife doesn't have a sordid past?

8 years ago | Likes 687 Dislikes 3

i think he'd know if he was married to a post op lady

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I dated a guy for over a year before running a check on him and finding out he had a criminal history from before I knew him

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes haha we looked up the court and case # they gave us, the date / state and other info was all wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 276 Dislikes 3

She paid of her mafia guys and got rid of the record ;)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Something similar happened to me with my driver's license. Court eff up all the time, just give them a call and let them know about the errr

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was sent an informative letter saying I was possibly part of a lawsuit against a background check company for this same thing...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You sure she wasnt a former dude?

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

finkle is einhorn

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude looks like a lady!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wait, is that how you spell sordid? I’ve been spelling it “sorted” my entire life! Nooooo!

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Are you a Brit by chance? Because I love the way they use “sorted” as “handled” or “decided”. That makes it extra funny to me.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We use it in the deep South in the same manner.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks! Just never heard it like, "well, that's been sorted" after someone tries to figure something out.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Git yourselves sorted fur deener. That's what my grandpa would say.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, Canadian.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not an exclusively British thing...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ok, good to know. We don't use that phrasing here in the Pacific NW, I have only heard it on British telly.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thanks for sorting him out

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What am I, a green M&M?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A girl I was going out with broke up with me because she did a background check on me and got my cousins results. Dodged a bullet there.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How is that dodging a bullet? Women have to be careful so they don't end up with a rapist or something.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dodged the bullet.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She ended up being a psycho and her brother was head of the local skinheads I later found out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You implied that her doing a background check == crazy. Most people today check out others on social media whom they are dating.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and if they feel something is sketchy or off, they might run a background check too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm fine with researching partners.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that not discrimination? That’s like saying you cannot shop at Walmart because you have a criminal record.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Regardless of whether or not it’s a mistake

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh, the thing is you don't have to use their product.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of course it's discrimination. But discrimination, unless against a protected class, is not illegal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ehhh... not really with Airbnb. Id rather someone not staying in my house that might have murdered someone.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AirBnB involves having complete strangers stay in your home, without supervision. A criminal record isn't an arbitrary restriction here.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

so someone makes one mistake 10 years ago and they can’t use Airbnb. Even after being law abiding for 10 years. People change over time

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

For most things I'd side with you. However, letting a complete stranger convicted of b&e stay at your family home without you is a bit much.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's a business. As long as it's not a protected class, they can do whatever they want.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Same reasons bars can have ladies nights, or discounts for wearing sweaters, or not let you in without a tie.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I guess it’s different in the USA I am in Canada

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No they cant. Imagine if they said 'No blacks' or 'No gays'

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Those examples are both protected classes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"as long as it's not a protected class". Those are protected classes.
