Job? At a propaganda station.
Hope? Gone.
Trumps bill passed. At a recent rally he had, he openly touted "I hate them cause they hate our country," in regards to democrats. My parents worship the guy, so I can only naturally conclude that they harbor a large ammount of hate to me too. Because his bill passed, despite everyone screaming five alarm fire, despite the unpopularity, despite what's right... it passed. I'd split from my parents if I didn't rely on them for a place to stay.
My friends? Maybe a few, but we don't see eachother anymore, and im giving up on seeing them at all. They never have time to hang out with me, and when they make a day for it they just cancel at the last minute. I had a kind of date with this girl recently where we just played some pool at a pool hall, and that was the first time in months I've hung out with someone who wasn't using me for money. I've made some bad choices in who to let into my life recently, and I pushed them out once I realized they were just using me.
Every day, I go to work. I went to school for 6 years to work in video production, and now I work at a Fox News station. I live in a city with a very very small media market, and im looking outside the city but, come on, you know nobody is hiring anymore. All those "help wanted" signs? Just for show. Anyway, all I hear at this station is hate and blatant lies. And then I come home to my parents blaring fox news like it's church. And do I make enough? Just to barely survive paycheck to paycheck, barely enough to repair my car a piece at a time.
I'm so tired of all the hate. I'm tired of being lonely and being told to enjoy my alone time. I'm tired of people exploiting my loneliness to make a buck. I'm tired... im just so damn tired..

It's all gonna start real fast. Way faster than people think. Prepare. Focus on providing your own physical needs and form community defense with like-minded neighbors. Start a garden. It's gonna suck real bad in the beginning before it gets better. It won't be long. Look after yourself just because you can.
Hope can be a corrosive acid. Sometimes you gotta flick the hearts switch to *spite* and keep going when you don't have a reason to. Make the Void wait just because you can.

I gave up hope for the species during covid. I have no faith that we'll do any of the things necessary to save ourselves from... anything. I have every expectation that things are going to get much, much worse in very short order.
But I'm still going to do everything I can to stop it. Why? Because "fuck you", that's why (metaphorical "you"). Every story I've ever read says when it seems hopeless and the bad guy's gonna win, all you can do is spit in their face.

Even countries that handled covid well had masses of people insisting on their 'freedom' to infect others, and their 'right' to refuse vaccination while still expecting free access to everything from hair salons to nursing homes. The global lurch into reactionary, right-wing politics is a direct consequence of people being frightened by circumstances they don't understand, and/or objection at "being told what to do". It's a global problem, and there's no fix for it.
