I just received a letter from my health provider. Medicare won't cover a referral to a dietician unless I have a diagnosis of diabetes. My provider also informed me that I have to agree to pay for all my medical expenses from now on before they will allow me to talk to my doctor again. They'll take Medicare payments if they get them, but I am now self-insured as far as they're concerned. I'm not special, I'm legion. These letters went out to all their Medicare patients.

Can you share what part of the bill ballooned? Genuinely curious if it's energy, it some natural disaster related cost, or... Who knows? Utilities are restricted in how they can raise prices, so sometimes they get tricky and you really have to dig on the why.

I'm in Texas. It's lawless bullshit. My rate went from $0.03per kwh to $0.20per kwh. They "deregulated" almost 30years ago which turned the public utility into a full-on business. All of these middle-men billing companies popped up to bust the power transmission company's monopoly. Still the same company transmitting power, but the billing comes from someone else. Basically double billed for the same power provided.

Just about every politician uses lowering prices as one of their campaign promises knowing full well that they are powerless over companies and can’t really do much about them. Most information outlets are biased or bullshit. Some biased to left, others right. There are Independent outlets that seem more reliable but it's always hard to say who's giving facts, contextual facts, or outright lies. Fox and CNN are known for being outrageously biased. I dunno who to believe anymore to be honest.

I have gas heat, dryer, and hot water heater. The gas I use, for a family of four costs, me about $3 to $5 a month when I'm not heating the house. However, with all the fees and bullshit, the gas portion of my bill is about $28 to $30. The cost of the actual gas doesn't even matter, they'll just keep adding fees. Accordingly, the cost for my electricity usage (looking at a recent bill) is $43, but the electric portion of my bill was $85. So, a total of $80 in fees on top of $48 in energy usage.

Electric is always at least $150 reaches over 200 during the cold snaps we've had. We have peak hours, and an inescapable $45 "account fee". Meanwhile the cooperative raffles off brand new trucks every quarter.
Water is relatively cheap, usually about $45, city owned utility.
My sewage bill is always constant at $92, somehow.
Oh and my county decided I own a storm drain that has a leak and is eroding my yard, even though it's public infrastructure.

agreed about septics not about the cost, most places sewer is proportional to consumption, & only on a part of that (inside/outside consumption) & is usually less than the water itself. used to be like that here, but now my sewer is a flat fee & seems to be based on a level of consumption far greater than what i use. makes it hard to care about conserving water when using less doesn't lower your bill

I don't know where you live, so I can't be specific, but *some* delivery fee is reasonable. There's a lot of infrastructure. Gas infra is far less complex, so your numbers track in that regard. (My gas bill breaks out almost the same). Electricity... I don't know how to gauge what a reasonable total delivery fee would be. In Illinois, you can choose a separate energy provider, but it's not enough of a cost difference for residential. I'll have to check my bills to see the current fees.

Gas is $.486/therm, I used 1.1 therms, so $.53 for gas and total bill is $26. Electricity supply cost is $.10/kWh, delivery $.05/kWh, total was $91 this billing cycle. ac is not very efficient for my 1200sq ft place.
