There are multiple data collection agencies who collect and sell your data. The government (local, state, federal) subscribe to these agencies and easily view your info. These collection agencies are required to remove you from their system per your "opt-out" request. Below are links from each of the major companies on how to opt-out.

DO NOT PAY A COMPANY TO OPT YOU OUT OF THESE AGENCIES !!! You can do it yourself for FREE.

If you don't really feel like opting out of them all, and only decided to do one or two, opt-out of LexisNexis.

LexisNexis, Accurint, KnowX: http://www.lexisnexis.com/privacy/for-consumers/opt-out-of-lexisnexis.aspx

Intelius, USSearch, related companies: Mail on department letter head your information to the following address - ensure that you include the statement “Opt Out of Intelius, USSearch and all affiliated companies and databases”: Consumer Affairs, PO Box 808 Bothell, WA 98041-0808

PeopleLookup.com: In order for PeopleLookup to suppress or opt out your personal information from appearing on our Website, we need to verify your identity. To do this, we require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver's license, we require that you cross out the photo and the driver's license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. We will only use this information to process your opt out request. Please fax to 425-974-6194 and allow 7 to 14 days to process your request.

Lexisnexus says they want proof we're in danger of physical harm, or provable identity theft. How'd you get by that?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not required. They have a drop-down option that says "Concerned about Personal Information" or something. Doesn't need to be danger.

Now I know what I'll be doing during quarantine

Any idea how this works on other countries like the Great White North? Same dealio?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It’s good to be under GDPR.

You can also start by not giving Facebook your data willingly.

I use it as a fraud analyst to verify the legitimacy of your complaint.

Is this useless if I'm not in the US?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Does this mean no more information gathering from now on but they still have our old data OR all your current and future info is gone

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On the other hand… how do I fabricate false information for these sites? Seems easier to flood them with wrong info than wipe the true one.

My phone automatically blocks spam phone calls, and I never check my email or open letters. I don't even look at billboards when I'm driving

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also don't open the door when someone rings.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I disconnected the doorbell. If they want to bother me, they have to smash their knuckles on the door.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it permanent? Or do they just opt you out for a time and then resume gathering your info?

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

On LexisNexis they state "This suppression request does not expire, and LexisNexis will attempt to suppress all of the information 1/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"available based on the information your provided in your request." 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

had to go back and forth to figure out what to do on some but all but two worked for me

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah.. uh.. your profile is out there forever. You just wont be able to google it, but it will be part of 'anonymous' data that can still be

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

identified to you when requested by the authorities, and I believe it can still be sold as long as they dont sell your name with it.
