I start out each quilt by discreetly investigating the favorite colors of the bride and groom. After that, Mom and I look for patterns and fabric together. She cuts the fabric into little pieces for me, and then I start to sew them together. This was the beginning of a quilt for a coworker who liked green, and her fiance who liked orange.
This pattern was gorgeous, but a huge pain in the neck. You had to pay particular attention to the symmetry of everything, and a mistake could mean a huge amount of rework (depending on how late you caught it). You also had to iron and sew a lot.
Fun fact: I watched the entire Hunter X Hunter series while making this quilt.
Once I had a bunch of half-hexagons sewed together, I started to lay them all down on a queen-size top sheet. Thankfully, my roommate and I have a convenient, huge vacant room in the basement that nobody was using. Not so thankfully, this meant subjecting my poor knees to hard linoleum floors every time I wanted to place a half hexagon or move things around. Just thinking about it hurts.
All laid out! Originally I had the light green in the brown corner, and vice versa. One of my coworkers suggested that I switch the two, and he was totally right. My knees were not happy, though.
After laying it out, you sew it into strips. You then sew those strips to each other, and those strips to each other... eventually you have the full quilt top.
This is my next project! It's not for a wedding this time, but I have a recipient in mind.

I think quilting is boring. you changed my mind. Beautiful. Incredibly special. As a widow I would have treasured something like this.

I didn't love quilts at first, either- and I'm so sorry for your loss.

I get so angry with people that have the talent to quilt but they come out so dated or use ugly fabrics. Yours are absolutely stunning! :)

Aww. Thanks so much! :) I can totally understand the outdated fabric use though... nice fabric is expensive!

Those are so awesome! I have a quilt on my couch my grandmother made. I'd love to learn how to quilt!

For me, cutting the fabric is the worst part. The rest is more tedious than it is hard- give it a try sometime! :)

What all supplies do you use? Is there a specific sewing machine?
ffffff
I have a Singer featherweight, polyester thread, fabric scissors, sewing rulers, a rotary cutter, and a cutting board. You'd also need 1/

a seam remover and pins... Sewing classes usually have all of the supplies, though. The machine's brand doesn't matter a whole lot. /2

Thank you!! I will have to look up some sewing classes! :)
