The black cauldron
This was one of my favorites growing up but scared the shit out of me! It's about a boy named Taran who is on a journey to save his pet psychic piggy from the evil as fuck Horned King, who wants to find the evil black cauldron to kill everyone.
Don't want to go inside that thing! Or you dead.
Scary as fuuuck! The Horned King looking at his dead army.
They have risen!
He's mad.
Some evil shit.
The scariest villain.
Little Nemo
This one is about a little boy named Nemo who adventures in dreamland. He's a dope and lets out the evil monster then has to destroy it. This one probably gave me the most nightmares.
The door that Nemo opens that releases the evil! Touching the black smokish stuff will kill you!
He better run!
The evil Nightmare King!
That damn train! I had nightmares about being chased by an evil train after this.
Fantasia-the night on bald mountain scene.
It's about Chernabog, the giant evil demon who appears to be the only main character. At midnight, he awakens and summons evil spirits and restless souls to send them down to hell I assume. The art and music is terrifying.
The Devil Chernabog awakens!
Waking up the evils.
Seriously, all the ghosts are so scary!
Dancing fire ladies getting turned into demons.
Dancing in hell.
Ferngully
This one's about a fairy named Crysta who tries to save the forest and her fellow fairies from an evil demon named Hexxus who got free from his cage! This creepy ass tree is where he was trapped for years, but then humans cut it down and let him loose.
Hexxus getting stronger!
His full form! So creepy.
The Secret of Nihm
It's about a little mouse called Mrs. Brisby. She is in search for help to cure her son from Pneumonia.
The wise rat Nicodemus. He was a good guy but he was so scary looking. Look at those freaky hands!
Mrs. Brisby seeks help from the terrifying great owl. He's not nice.
Brutus
Brutus! The rat who tries to stab mrs. Brisby to death with that freaky spear!
Cat tax!
Retrikaethan
...not sure if my fixation for good horror movies is cuz of this stuff or what but i saw all but the last one when i was very young.
MilConDoin
Also animal farm and felidae both had their moments which were not really child safe...
dietluigi
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the effort that went in to the lighting in this:
SyriusTank
Yes! Little Nemo! That movie gave me nightmares for years and I couldn't find anyone else who had seen it.
CerberusR
The full movie of Little Nemo is on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UeXAWMieQA
VoodooQueen
Oh man, Little Nemo gave me tons of nightmares but I loved that stupid movie
angrytoque
I always feel sorry for the people that haven't seen the black cauldron.
Scrushkins
Me too.
danesaurus
+1 for the Black Cauldron. My favorite as a child! "Munchies and crunches gotta be here somewhere "
danesaurus
Actually, +1 for all of these. I love them all, and many people don't even know of them: especially BC.
Frogapus
Heh. Tim Curry voiced two of these extra scary villains.
Scrushkins
Hexxus?
Frogapus
And the Nightmare King.
LH1512
Ahhh gurgy, you were da real MVP
iwalkonthebottomofthemississippiriver
As a child who experienced every year of the 90's. This is awesome. +1
Scrushkins
Thank you!
verderact
The Secret of Nihm was also based on a book that I read as a child. I had completely forgotten it until now!!!
Scrushkins
I want to read it.
LordNoodles
I really like the book much better
KKWL
Ah Nemo "Banana Pajamas!"
awesomeplata
There was a scene in all dogs go to heaven that was pretty scary.
Scrushkins
I can't remember what scene. I'll have to watch that one again.
imostlypostpicturesofmybunny
Are any of these on Netflix?? Definitely seem like good ones to check out. Thanks op!
Scrushkins
Fantasia is also on netflix. The night on bald mountain is the last scene.
Scrushkins
You def should!. I know Ferngully and the secret of Nihm were.. Not sure if they are anymore but you can check.
spookymusic
Little Nemo: The Dream Master is a great NES platformer as well!
LemonyVengeance
Don bluth.. why you so spooky?
Ameatyloaf
OMG I've been trying to figure out the name of Little Nemo for years. I friggin loved that movie. You are my hero this day.
Scrushkins
Yay!!!
LanieCakes
That movie used to scare the shit out of me and my sister when we were kids! I need to see if Amazon has it.
GingeraffeTW
Little Nemo. Yes, I knew that movie was on this list the second I saw the title.
LariCheltsy
Recently repurchased and rewatched NIHM. The Great Owl is still terrifying af
WhimsicalCalamari
I need to rewatch that. I loved it when I was a kid. Got me to read the book and I honestly couldn't see a difference in quality.
egaode
That scene of the rats getting injected always freaked me out.
Scrushkins
I know! His home is so creepy too.
LariCheltsy
Also rewatched We're Back! this week in my adult life. Wished I'd left it in my childhood. Was terrified of the circus in my youth but
LariCheltsy
watching it again I realize it was a pretty bad movie. My eyes have grown old and bitter.
Scrushkins
I actually almost did that one! That one just got put on netflix and I thought about watching it.
MrDuckie
Little Nemo was something I couldn't watch till I was in my teens it scared me as a child.
Scrushkins
It was so scary to me. I watched it again recently and that train always gets to me.
NiceLegsDaisyDukesMakesAMAAANOUTOFYOOOUUUU
Oh, man, OP. None of these scared me xDD I absolutely loved all of them, Little Nemo and Fantasia especially!
Scrushkins
I loved them too! But I did shit my pants.
NiceLegsDaisyDukesMakesAMAAANOUTOFYOOOUUUU
I could handle all of these... but show me something like Terminator 2, or Alien, or Goosebumps, and I was scared shitless. No clue why xP
Scrushkins
Haha terminator terrified me too. They are some of my favorite movies now though.
LeMorteDRando
The train part is amazing, such good animation.
monkeyrapecave
But did you play The Black Cauldron game? That's the real question here.
Scrushkins
No, but I'm curious to know more.
Ringshadow
Hit me once. Hit me twice. OH. AH. OhhhHHHHhh that's rather nice. - Tim Curry as Hexxus
LanieCakes

Sliiiime beneath mee, sliiiime up above!
DaMackies
Back in the good old days when PG didn't just mean 'Practically G'.
PamelaSplooshPoovey
Now PG just means "sexual jokes you won't get til you're older"
ChefObvious
It's funny that Something Wicked This Way Comes is only PG, and was released under a Disney umbrella. That's way too hardcore for children.
Dunes8
Or Watcher in the Woods.
ChefObvious
I had forgotten about that one, too. Thanks for the reminder.
Mrbigmick
Those bird fucks in Dark Crystal scared the shit outta me.
Scrushkins
I'm going to post another with that movie.
egaode
Skrekksiissss
capflavex
MmmMMmmmmm... yesssssss.... Mmmmmmm!
pandapeaches
With all the remakes going on, I wish they'd consider the Black Cauldron.
PamelaSplooshPoovey
Dude. Yes.
LordNoodles
You mean like the Cinderella /Jungle Book style remake?
pandapeaches
I love the old style but if done right, live action wouldn't be terrible. (You hope)
LordNoodles
I think if they gave it to the PG13 studio it might work. More on the 13 than the PG side
YeOlRazzleDazzle
When I was a kid, my parents thought it was a good idea for me to watch Watership down. http://imgur.com/0VEBQOw ... Yeah.
K2yS
I was walking around like a zombie for three days after seeing that movie and I still hate it.
Scrushkins
My god...
YeOlRazzleDazzle
Yeah, so there's that. Good movie, from an adult perspective.
GeneralRedland
You guys remember The Pagemaster?
IrishPub
Watched it recently. It did not age well. Also a lot shorter than I remembered it being.
GeneralRedland
I also saw some of it recently. I remember it being a lot more impressive. Early CGI and effects from the 90s are lackluster today.
jokercat
Oh man my parents had to hide it from me cause it terrified me so much
Diverjojo
Based on the comments I was the only one who really fucking loved it. I watched it so many times
GeneralRedland
I distinctly remember it despite only seeing it once. I think we rented it. Most of our movies were VHS recordings.
PamelaSplooshPoovey
Holy fucking Mr. Hyde NO THANK YOU
Scrushkins
No! I'm curious now.
LanieCakes
It's on Amazon!
fancyass
Watch it immediately
Scrushkins
Alright.
userdirt
Watership Down
Foxxycosplays
Bright eyesssssss, burning like fireeee.
egaode
I read the book and found out the damn rabbit survived. /2
egaode
My mum came in just as a bunny was getting mauled by a dog, gasped, and switched it off. Wasn't till years later /1
Undead2k
Agreed, this should be on the list :3
FreshWater13
God where the disembodied bunny heads were suffocating in the warren as it got filled in...jesus that stuck with me...
DrunkZombie
Would you qualify that as a "childhood" movie?
Chexorz
I definitely watched it when I was a kid.
Chexorz
I was just talking about this w/my mother a few days back! She has no idea why she ever let me watch it.
brbdnd
I made sure I ran a search before putting this movie in the comments. Good show, old bean!
Tamponsareforepistaxis
That movie fucked me up. It's a great film
NMT1138
same here!
modus0
Read the book when I was ten, along the way came to the conclusion that it was NOT a story for kids.
Scrushkins
What is this?
BexRani
Bunnies mudering bunnies. Lots of blood and death.
RichAndWilling
Put your basic bitch list away OP. You don't know terrifying childrens movies.
F0rger
Rabbits and murder.
OmnibusLatinName
When the survivor recounted the details of the field being plowed... haunted for years. Cartoon induced claustrophobia.
justasomeone
holy crap its evil.. so much bunny death :(
Scrushkins
I don't think I could handle that!
justasomeone
its a right of passage.
rrlyrae
my brother took me to see it when i was a little kid. i thought it was about submarines. oops.
Foxxycosplays
It's fucked up that's what it is.
tentaclefriendly
Seriously, if this kinda movie is your thing, see Watership Down
Scrushkins
This movie just sounds traumatizing.
mmmmmmShaiHulud
the same animators made another feature based on a book called Plague Dogs. It's even worse than it sounds.
ThoughtfulTortuga
You might enjoy the Chronicles of Prydain book series. The Black Cauldren is a loose adaptation of the first two books.
DrunkZombie
Hell yeah!
McKyrl
Yes! I love those books.
niksta
I found the set in a second hand book store a few years back. Had an old clipped article about the movie in one of them!
CirB
Loved the books, had actually read them well before I ever saw the film.
Cameronkip
I'm 28, and still occasionally will re-read the entire series.
PamelaSplooshPoovey
I love the books! The movie got me into them. Still love the movie tho. Would LOOOOOOVE to see a remake/LA version of the book(s)
profanelogic
The series is infinitely better than that movie. It's one of my favorites, and that movie..... Man.... Just sad.
welluhwhatdoyouwantmetosay
Walt Disney's 25th animated feature, but Princess Eilonwy didn't get to be a Disney Princess because her movie tanked.
capflavex
Taran Wanderer!
McKyrl
He just wanted to be a Potter...
capflavex
There's a double entendre about wizarding in a fictional book in there.
Scrushkins
Thanks! I'll check it out.
profanelogic
Do it. My second favorite fantasy series. The books aren't terriblyong either.
Scrushkins
What's your first favorite? I love fantasy series.
profanelogic
Kingkiller trilogy. We there's only two so far. Name of the Wind and A Wise Man's Fear. They're beautiful. Lore rich and deep.
Scrushkins
Thank you!
