Place is pretty old, and in need of some attention. But it had too much appeal and potential to pass up.
Sitting on a good chunk of property, and I was drawn in by the rough wood and stone finish. It's got a rustic, cabin in the woods feel.
Ok, I'll be honest. I pretty much bought the garage, the house was just an added bonus. It's hard to find a place big enough to hold a couple full size trucks, and still have room to work.
The walls were dingy and dirty. There was a yellow film on everything (previous owner must have been a heavy smoker) and the carpets were just disgusting.
Only two bedrooms, but good sized.
Not crazy about the red carpet. But it's in good shape and will do for now.
Decent sized kitchen. Needs some updating.
Scrubbed the shit out of the walls and got them clean and ready for paint.
Threw away that mess of a carpet (place smelled so much better after just a good cleaning)
Already looking good.
Dining room has decent space.
Trying to pick colors is impossible.
Dad helping me prep and mask.
Slather that shit on good. The walls hadn't been painted in a very long time. Took three coats to get everything covered well.
Dad still lending a helping hand.
Living room painted
Decided to go with a two tone color scheme for the dining room. I call it Reese' s room, cause the two colors really look like peanut butter and chocolate.
Repainted the door jams white to make a clear break between rooms where the colors change so that there's a break in the transition.
Time for new flooring. Had to do some minor leveling, but no big deal.
Went with laminate wood floor. Pattern is Tavern Oak. It came out great.
Looking like a while new house.
Living room mostly done, just need to get baseboard back on.
Two of my buddies came to help with the flooring. Not only are they good at what they do, but they work for beer and chipotle.
Who would've guessed that someone would draw a dick? It was bound to happen.
Dining room and hall coming along nicely.
The rug really ties the room together, man.
Moving on to the kitchen. Tried a sample color, wanted to go bold to really pop against the rest of the house being neutral, earth tones.
The Orange definitely stood out and really made the kitchen more lively.
Time for a microwave.
There are horizontal fire stop blocks all through the walls, which made running a new electric circuit a world of fun. See the two large holes we had to cut in the drywall?
Nothing a bit of spackle can't cure.
Another coat of paint, and it's good as new. You can't see the patches at all. And even so, they're behind the microwave and stove.
Bathroom needs a bit of brightening up.
Boom. Hit it with the green... I'm still not sure about this color. It's good for now, but the bathroom needs remodeled soonish. May change color then. Not sure. Haven't given too much thought to this room yet.
The house had the nasty, white blinds when I bought it. Replaced them with the new wooden ones. I can't believe the difference they made.
Bedrooms both got the same color, I wanted them to match and to be very neutral so that when I replace the carpet, anything should match.
Guest room/ office is good to go. All new ceiling fans, electric switches, and receptacles were installed, along with new covers. The brown goes well.
The wood is heavy, rough cut lumber. It's in Great shape, no rotting at all, just weather worn.
Pressure washing and three coats of high end paint brought it back to life.
Had some alge or moss or something growing on the garage.
Pressure washer cleaned it up.
Lebowski tax.
I've only had the place a few months, so this is just the beginning of a long journey, there's still way too much work that needs done to list. But I'll make additional post of new projects as I get into them.

Nice! 129k isn't bad for 1.37 acres and a bad ass 46x28 garage.
goldfishcrackersbetweentheseats
@OP nice spa blue or green for the bathroom, soothing colors! Love the orange in kitchen.
ruferto
dont like the green color in bathroom. good job overall!
natepiano
Dad’s who show up when there is work to be done are worth their weight in gold. I hope I can BE THERE for my kid as much as he has been.
Taking3
i think you might legitimately have a form of colorblindness
BlueTheRage
Shit brown or shit brown, hard colour choices oh man.
JustAPocketFullofSunshine
I love HGTV, so seeing that kinda stuff here is NICE.
lickthismiff
People want to get rid of the gays but then this is how straight men decorate... Nice house though, congrats.
xpixelboxer
With the rug reference you had my upvote! Nice place aswell
teamsleeper
Good job on your new garage.
suicideclintonbullets
+1 for the dick pic
ProbablyBigfoot
I love that house and I'm SO jealous that you get to live there.
MartianWeasel
Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
chrishallett83
Skylights, bruh. That house looks dark as hell inside in the photos, throw some big skylights in the cunt and she'll brighten right up.
beerbaronbeeron
Awesome job

"...I was drawn in by the rough wood...Nah." _PAINTS_ WTF?
justleaveittome
No pressure washing gifs? Killin me!!!
GenghisThong
Be proud man! That looks like it is coming along tremendously!
takingadumplookingatdumps
Great house! But I hate to break it to you, you might be color blind
ItsaPurgePlanetMorty
It's his house, if he is happy with it that's what matters
Clemptor
God damn, I was looking for someone else to validate me. HEINOUS color scheme.
mudwhistle
Nice job. Whats up with the swirls in the paint on the ceiling? Looks like the prior owner was trying to add texture.
MartianWeasel
Yes, all walls and ceilings have swirl texture. Used to be more common than newer houses.
mudwhistle
Great job all around mate!
themuttonisniceandlean
Since the previous owner was a smoker, I'd rip that carpet in the bedrooms up next. It's a beautiful house, except the green bathroom! Eek!
ddjerin
Great job! I just got a new house and am slowly going through the updates!!
MartianWeasel
Thanks! It's a long process. Best of luck to you!
poppatater
Looking good. Happy for you
queenofthekcs
I'm on the same path! Buying my first home, multiple states away. It was built in 1923 and has had the same owner for 59 years. 1/2

I have some heavy plumbing and electrical work to do! 2/2

Congrats, you get to experience what ~40% of our generation will never get to experience!
praiseDOG
Are you seriously saying someone or a system is stopping you from buying a house bc that is utter BS! You can read/walk you can buy a house.
edgarbird
No, I'm saying that with the current economic environment, we won't be able to afford owning a house.
AnEvenDirtierSmellierHippy
@op is this the salesman who helped you pick out your color scheme?
MartianWeasel
Haha. All my apartments I had for the past 10 years had white walls. I needed some color.
InsultCatapult
Some color. Not *these* colors.
Delgue
Great house! Congratulations
clutchthepearls
I like the house, but those decoration choices man...bleh. Then you had nice vertical wood siding and painted it. PAINTED IT!
WellWellWellLookWhoItIs
Yeah, I clinched up there a bit, too.
Ifavouriteallthecatstuff
That's what I thought. My neighbours are building a house and had nice timber outside which they covered with tin and painted it BLUE. WHY?!
Wigglynoodles
That was my only problem, I could live with the color but he painted the wood siding, that's gonna start fading and look like shit soon 1/2
Wigglynoodles
Whereas the wood was clearly still in good condition and maybe only needed a coat of an outdoor stain
anunpronounceablestringofcharacters
Nice, but I can't stand laminate hardwood, its worth the money for the real thing.
blakeatwork
I could replace my flooring 3-4 times for what hard would would have cost, labour included
JKava
Some people can't afford to
TheGhostofLouReed
Clearly you don't own dogs.
MartianWeasel
It's cheap, looks good, no maintenance, extremely durable. And it's thin. Had I went with real hardwood, I would've had to modify every door
anunpronounceablestringofcharacters
I have to respectfully disagree with "extremely durable" but maybe yours is a different style/brand than I have experience with...
owlest
laminate becomes fucked with moisture
CinnamonBunny
Show the "before" pics as "after" pics and this is better. From nice white to brown-red-green what the hell?!
squintish
All of these other commenters are gutless, boring fence sitters who probably like velveeta and have no sense of adventure.
Lastsoyeah
Agreed it's awful colour choices so dark
atleastIwasnt36
Ya those are 70s colors
rustyspade
hey hey hey, let the man have his John Deere themed bathroom if that is what makes him happy!
WeeBabySeamus22
White paint is best, then accessorise with colour such as bright prints, cushions and rugs. But then, I'm a woman.
CinnamonBunny
This! Easy to change colors if you get bored.
Tornadotaco
I fucking love the colors. But I also recognize they are dated, make the rooms look small, and most ppl would dislike them. I still love it.
superfeathers
The colors are terrible, just terrible. Even the brown is no good, the ceilings are very low and it makes it seem even smaller.
Ilikeyogurt
Yes
MyDarlingFeet
I also dislike the brown. It's not my house though but my design senses are screaming.
theelusivedorothyparker
Ehh let the kid be happy with his work. We've all studied color theory and perception as designers and know the deal. He'll figure it out.
DangerSmoog
I have shitty taste, I thought it looked pretty nice and cozy.
peachesforme
that green is pretty damn bad. and the orange is too dark for how small the space is. also like sketchy laundry mat color
BaileeBaum
As an interior designer I agree
Jellybeanslave
The green bathroom made me cringe. I rented a place and the bathroom was neon random colors. Gave us headaches til I painted it -.-
Showmeyourotters
I wouldn't mind the orange IF the cabinets were black w/ chrome appliances.. But then again orange is my favourite color anyways.
TheLetterKay
It's definitely a bachelor pad. No woman would stand for those dark colors. Ugh.
blackoutdigital
Girlfriend wanted to decorate a small bedroom in grey and brown and couldn't understand what I meant when I said it would name the room
blackoutdigital
Look smaller. No need to be sexist, women can have bad/no taste in color too.
TheLetterKay
Very true. I apologize. Some people just suck at decorating.
blackoutdigital
fucking truth.
