This pretty much sums it up. I couldn’t find the artist of this illustration though.

Sneak in at night, throw that dictator out on his ass, lock the doors, and establish your democracy. I have no better ideas. I'm sorry.

Not to be a dick but maybe CNN shouldn’t send a blonde lady that sticks out like a sore thumb if ppl know this is happening?

Granted the camera doesn’t help but still...

They dont want their reporter to get shot or arrested. Sticking out helps with that.

Yeah no, getting anyone in there to report is a win

You'd think they could have coordinated with at least one of the thousands of local university educated journalists right?

The journalists that I've worked with in Myanmar usually actually prefer to rely on local journalists and camera people to do the 1/2

ground work and interviews. This is because it's a heckloas safer for the interviewees, and because then you have conversations 2/3

between native speakers that can highlight nuances in conversation and bring deep local knowledge to an interview/news story. 3/3

3 in the pink.Really though i think some protest groups and such adopted it from the hunger games.I think it was also used during HK protest

It mean help!

In my culture it's a reference to the Ukrainian Coat of Arms - Tryzub (Trident), and is used as a symbol of unity in a fight for freedom

The British way of ordering 3 drinks

Not to be confused with the German way. Ironically, Michael Fassbender is more German than English (in that he is not at all English).

He grew up in Ireland though and identifies as Irish

We all watched inglorious basterds

I have no idea what you're talking about

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A symbol of resistance and solidarity for democracy movements. Derived from the Hunger games movie as far as I know.

Nah , they gad a show in the 90s in Bulgaria that used the same sign .so it's been around before that .

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

correct, but it has also become widely used in SE Asia because at the time the movie came out Thailand was also having political trouble.

Isn't that also a scout thing? Something about boy scout and girl scout salutes?

5 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

No it's a hunger games thing. The movies were baned in Thailand and Burma after people started doing this

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Yup. 3 fingers for the 3 core values. And the thumb over pinky can be interpreted as "The strong protects the weak"

5 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

What about the pinky over the thumb?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Have you tried keeping your ring finger up with that configuration?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's when a strong person uses the weak as a body shield. I learned this in the scouts too
