I understand a website needs its ad revenue to stay afloat, but I still think there needs to be some kind of quality control on what ads are on the site. When I'm getting hounded by ads entirely in Chinese, or adverts telling me that I can "Earn £2100 an hour!!!", then it's really going to put myself, and others, off the site.

FP EDIT: Wow, the fact that this reached FP is actually amazing. Thank you everyone; although, I honestly wish I could've reached the FP with a post that took more effort, because I feel very undeserving of this, and I reiterate my apology from the comments, as this post seems really rude, so I'm truly sorry.

Because people usually request things in these edits, could I get people to check out my YouTube channel? I'm trying to really get into content creation and I have a few things in the works - Primarily video game stuff: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGyeqvZfkI0wkIWpfPBaWIA

(Even if one person checks it out, I would really appreciate it. Thank you guys!)

Honestly I thought this was just an issue I was experiencing, thank you

This was happening to me today too, and I thought I was going mental!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont know what you guys are complaining about... i never had any issues except the loads of gay adds... ow, i get it now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That happens to me and it's fucking annoying. Otherwise the app stops, so I either can report or close the app

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thought it may have just been me happened twice this week its a right cunt.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@hithereimTsukuyomi I'll check you out ;)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Happened to me a few times.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really, that's never happened to me on mobile.

I don't think you know what a virus really is.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beat me to it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happening to me on a daily basis as well...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They won't listen. They will ask you to jump thru a lot of troubleshooting hoops that have NOTHING to do with anything till ...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...you get fed up and quit trying to help them solve their chit and throw in the towel and say NEvERMInd!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine has a banner ad for Muslim brides. If it's based on search cookies please don't humiliate me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*knock on wood* I've never had a single problem with ads on the app.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm so fucking interested in reading about people's experiences with online ads. We need more of this on the FP.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

Basically, I ended up in a Google Play store limbo; a never-ending onslaught of ridiculous and virus-riddled apps shoved into my face.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes...make a post that the imgur staff won't see. That'll help a lot. There's an entire system set up for this that people never use

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

I keep hearing about this magical system that people never use but I've never seen a link to it. Also, we've been complaining about bad 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

ads for like 2 years now and they're still a problem. It doesn't appear that anyone is actually being held accountable for them. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Still think their some of their ads should br suicide hotline numbers

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be honest, it's a decent idea.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually had this as well. Thank god I wasn't the only one!

I was hoping someone would post this. Good job +1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#TeamMobile agrees with you @op . And we can't block the ads like our PC brethren. Help us @sarah , you're our only hope!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I've never gotten a mobile pop up ad, I'm on android. I just get the small subtle ads on the bottom of each post

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Exactly. Dude probably launched it unknowingly..(that's what she said).

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I don't understand how this happens. But i only get ads for female lifestyle magazines.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ad networks track what online behaviour they can and buy the rest of it from your "free" social media services.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why don't i get ads of puppies, kitties and apache helicopters then?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't pretend like they don't know *exactly* what you want! ;P

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You interpret the kitties in any way you want mate

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@sarah

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Naw the secret with stuff like this is that OP got infected other places, and then the bugs showed themselves through imgur's ads...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

You are one cheeky bellend, I'll give you that m8

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

^^

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Scroll two images away from this post, have this happen. Thanks Sarah.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I swear it wasn't me or my post, honest.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been getting shit like this for the past 2 years or so on imgur. Even on desktop. Automatic redirects and whatnot. Had to get adblock

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm on android and use opengur. No ads.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well when opengur stops working for me that will be my last day of imgur i suppose.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too bad opengur has ceased development. Only a matter of time until imgur makes a breaking change and opengur ceases to function.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, I didn't know this. I'm sure some other alternative will pop up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah i reinstalled opengur.. "SUPPORT HAS CEASED - USE THE OFFICIAL APP" - uhh.. no. there's a reason i'm not already using it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gotta use an ad blocker with Imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 4

occasionally ill see at the top, next to the favourites marker, "pop-up blocked" and i get a little chuckle.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hell i use two for this reason

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't want to have to, though...

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

do you recommend one? the one i use seems useless recently!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

uBlock Origin

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow this is awesome thanks!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On mobile?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

There's actually a neat way to not see any ads on mobile at all. It's called "use PC like a civilized human being."

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 12

I havent got one. My phone does everything i need it too ... except block ads.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Adblock Plus works, don't need root, but it does configure itself if you do.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

uBlock Origin for desktop, 1 Blocker for iOS. no issues. I'll happily support any othe form of revenue but current model sucks ass

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AdAway for Rooted Android devices

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Adguard for non rooted. Subscription fee with this one but has a "lifetime" option

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

pay in rubles, it comes out to like $3 vs $12 USD

Firefox mobile has extentions like chrome. You can ad origin ad block on there. If you have android

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally search for adblock browser in the play store its a thing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

try UC Browser, no root or aditional extensions required. works great.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have an Android and it's rooted, there's another app called Ad Away that blocks all ads from most apps

Y'know mobile has adblock, right?

9 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 11

and swe browser.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Limited/cost/requires root/better be a VPN you trust/etc. Just saying, still true but semi-large * compared to desktop.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good luck getting it to work if you've got unrooted Lollipop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I might be the only one who doesn't have adds in the mobile app! I don't even have adblock in my phone

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Is mobile supposed to have ads? I never get them either.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was an update last year that brought ads, among some other things.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even before I switched to the beta I never got ads. Were the ads only iOS? Because I have Android.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still haven't upgraded to Adgur :D

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I have updated but i still didn't get adds, I'm happy :3

Use a raspberry as hardware addblocker

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where? The adblock plus app breaks websites and I can't login to anything if I use it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the exact thing that made these ads hostile. Adblock. When a large portion of ads don't get out to do their job, they change from ~

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Friendly boring ads to PERSISTENT annoying buggers that are very much in control. You think ads used vibration back when adblock wasn't ~

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A thing? Nope. Adblock made them that way. Not directly, but certainly indirectly. And no, those ads are NOT viruses. There is a difference.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

when i got internet ~25 years ago, ads where annoying flashing gifs. lets not pretend those greedy assholes are good guys

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not much of a difference. Still extremely malicious to force something to switch to something else without your permission.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did not know that... how do I make that happen..?

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

adguard on nonroot Android works fantastic for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you use Firefox on mobile you can download the ublock origin extension, AFAIK

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I really like the Firefox browser, I usually just use the imgur app when on the phone, though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too, but I have never had any issues with ads getting in the way on the app. Had a few accidental hits but it was easy enough to go back

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Me, either. Ive also been to some sites that stream movies/tv shows, where ordinarily you're hit w a bunch of bad popups & Firefox does well

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think their is one for iOS - an I wrong?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There is, it just uses a vpn to block out the ads. Have a search, I don't use it because it turns of my internet but it sometimes works.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't use iOS then... just another reason not to

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

You're wrong. You can download Adblock Plus on iOS, and set it up with the Safari browser to block ads.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

not adBlock Plus, shits nasty. Use purify.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shits free, not 1.99

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1) Google: root [your phone] xda; 2) root your phone; 3) install AdAway

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4) Profit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Oooooh, I get it."

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sarah's not sitting at her desk approving or declining particular ads. They'll be delivered through a broker like google.

9 years ago | Likes 768 Dislikes 26

Then find a better broker

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Which is a problem. Because when imgur delivers malware through the ads they host, technically they are to blame.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's still the site's responsibility though.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

It's all too easy for these sleazy ads to trick their way into the link chain.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It really depends on the ad network you partner with. Imgur chose poorly, it seems.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

While true, I've seen websites that can sift through and remove the dangerous ads (Erfworld is an excellent example)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Depends on what exchanges they participate in and what their floor price is too. You are worth more, imgur+

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Affiliate advertising sales networks are the cancer killing internet monetization.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And this is why ad services are a cancer. Well, one of the main reasons anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is obviously not working very well

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

a. sarah isn't their only employee. b. if they're not vetting their ads, then they're fucking up

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then they're fucking up. They say they are not responsible for ad content.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's horseshit. they're responsible to their users, or they won't have them. i can get my memes elsewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anytime. o7

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All of the ads I've seen on the app are through DoubleClick, which Google owns. There is a way to report bad ads

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And there's MoPub. Can't help you there. MoPub has a little i next to the sponsored text.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But it doesn't immediately show on my phone. Does after I click on a comment, small icon in the bottom left corner. If you can report bad 1s

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But reputable ad exchanges handle bad ads. Bad ads are bad for everyone, including the exchanges and brokers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and then the bad ad makers find ways around it. its a constant cycle

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I undertsand that, don't worry. But I'm not the only to bring it up, and there is a way to change what kind of ads appear.

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 3

2/2 click interest...learn how to stop targetted ads here: https://support.google.com/ads/answer/2662922?hl=en

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Turn off targetted ads, malicious ads count the auto-redirect as a click and thus the ad network display them more frequently due to 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Aw, man, really? That actually sucks.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Solution: Stop putting ads on the app, we all hate them. I know, revenue, figure something else out. Ads suck.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how do you suggest they make enough money to pay their employees and keep the website running then?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wikipedia does it through donations. Also, imgur has a store that makes money. There are many other ways.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

... well i'm not letting you write my business plan that's for sure

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Unless you want to pay to view Imgur, there is no otherway

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also Metafilter remains ad free by charing $5 to create an account (viewing is free). I always thought that was a good idea.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imgur has a store that makes money. There are many other ways.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would be very surprised if the store made anywhere close to enough money to even consider it. And I'm genuinely interested to hear (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your ideas about how else they could reliably generate enough money without ads? Only thing I can think of was vehemently rejected by users.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the excuse every site uses. If you can't be bothered to police what you're showing, I can't be bothered to look at it.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

so, either every site that has this problem (its alot) is correct. or you, FussyZeus, know better than all of us. ok then.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Damn near every site does have this problem, yes. That's why I only white-list ones I trust and why people without adblockers get viruses.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not even remotely that simple.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

I'm fully aware of how complex it is. That's still not going to prevent me from bitching at imgur so that they bitch at their ad provider.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If there was a billboard company out there who caused cars to careen off highways, there would be hell to pay. Why is the net different?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are significant differences in the way the ads are bought and displayed I can't even begin to explain in 140 chars. Not even close.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I know how brokers work, and I also know that there is no fiscal incentive for them to police the content they show which is why they don't.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And it doesn't help that the entire Internet ad industry was built with deniability in mind, so every level can skate by with no standards.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Companies usually have an adsales team that sell ad space inventory and she could very likely speak with said team.

9 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 3

She probably wouldn't do that that though, since she's the community manager/person

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These ad are not sold direct. They are purchased through real-time bidding via an open exchange.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately its easier said than done. I am constantly speaking with my ad network (I like them a lot, too, best one I've ever worked with

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Because these malicious ads sneak through & are nearly impossible to track (ad company and I both try). I have raised my minimum floor price

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Hoping to weed them out & effectively decreased my own income to get rid of these ads and they STILL get through. It kills me.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

She is way to busy sitting at her desk deleting all the porn from usersub, right?

9 years ago | Likes 324 Dislikes 11

that's mostly automated as well

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 30

It's not automated. Users report posts and then moderators perform actions. Nothing in the process is automatic. Source - I'm a moderator.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally had this happen to me yesterday. Glad I'm not the only one I guess

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Suffer with meeee!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had it happen once, i basically had to force quit everything to get it settled

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Browsers on desktops are the most vulnerable to malware from underlying (subdomain -often rogue) ad networks

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah guys this was on the app too - android. Didnt even see an add below the image just started spassing out. Clicked back 20 times to fix it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Accidentally click on an ad = the bullshit makes your phone buzz constantly until you force quit the app

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Something similar happened to me too and i am so careful when i am on mobile not to accidently click the advert.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got virus warnings and hijacks using the app.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here. Sounds like a problem with the phone/software, and not with the app

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's happened to me, too. I closed the play store and every other app and the play store just kept popping up with shitty games.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

both. site is worse, but the app is newer so it's taken them longer to infect. i expect it will get worse before it gets better.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The site is worse because the app gets most of the attention when it comes to maintenance.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

easily believed. the mobile site is unnavigable due to the spam, ads and viruses.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was talking about the main desktop site and its consistent overloaded servers but I don't doubt the mobile version isn't rife with issues

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh, i concur. I was just adding information. imgur doesn't really give a fuck how shitty their site gets.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

same on the app the other day

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fact if it never happened to you it never happened at all

I've also never had any issues with the app because I use PC like a normal person.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

But then how do you browse dumps on the toilet?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Laptop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Psh, but can you carry your pc with you to spend more time a day on here than in public like a "normal person" obviously would

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes, because I have a laptop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On the app. I even checked my open apps and Imgur had completely disappeared. Also got a Google Chrome virus warning on desktop, once.

9 years ago | Likes 581 Dislikes 18

I think you just need to get a better antivirus, I've never had any problem with any ads or pop-ups ever on any site. Kaspersky bruh!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you have a malware in your phone, App is working perfectly for me, for months by now

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I've noticed the Imgur app disappearing when I go elsewhere on my Android, wasn't related to ads though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Scurry. I've had hijack ads on the mobile browser before (were really bad for a while) but not the app so far.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ive never see an ad on imgur. Literally never

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I dont even have ad block on any device

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've never in the few years I've used the app had this problem.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me either, but I expect it'll catch up with us, given that other users are having issues.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of the few benefits to iPhone, a locked down OS restricts this (doesn't prevent, but reduces at least).

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have an Android phone and this has never happened to me. OP must have downloaded a shady app which is pushing ads.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happened to me yesterday as well. I set my phone down for a second, picked it up and it was one of those fake virus alert pages.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had the same thing on the app more than once, jumped into Google play store for shitty games and had to hit the back button a bunch of times

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Whereabouts are ya? Ads are geotargeted. I'm in the UK and never had an issue. Depends how imgur / their outsourced agency are serving ads.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never had an issue with the app. I use Adblock for desktop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This has happened to me before. I was scrolling through comments and the play store popped up about 10 tabs

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, and will be device related as well. So they need to sort out their android-served ads.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have an Android phone I would recommend and ad blocking program. It really helps

I guess you are in a similar boat. Someone suggested block this. So far it seems to be working. It isn't on the play store so download it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had a lot of comments telling me that, and I've read every single one. I will get an adblocker, I just didn't think I needed to, is all

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never had a problem with the app. that's weird

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See this is why i need a second to go "wait there's ads on the internet?" whenever i see something like this #everyadblockknowntoman

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

See, I have adblock on PC, but I honestly didn't think I needed it for my phone considering I only use Imgur and YouTube on it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah i dont have them there but i also dont do imgur on mobile, its youtube. google maps directions, Music and audiobooks for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plug for mortplayer Audiobooks btw, free, awesome and its kewl

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I have like 3 of them running on my work and home computer. uBlock Origin gives me a counter and it's sitting at 382 atm...

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

1,334,434 or 11% now, after about half a year of being installed.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was after an hour and a half at work son.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did you click on the ad? Ive been using the ap for a while and havent had a problem with ads once

9 years ago | Likes 204 Dislikes 8

Happened to me last night when I sat my phone down to get a drink

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You only need to have an ad load in to have it serve malware. No need to interact with it at all.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven't had problems on the app, but desktop rerouted me twice to "update my Firefox"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was in the middle of an image dump, on like the 7th image, and then suddenly *POOF* Google Play loads and I can never leave.

9 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 6

I've had this a couple of times in the last week or two, I know exactly what you mean

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm with you @op same happens to me. I think it happens more when you accidentally click the advert which can happen mid browse.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have words with friends installed? Even when you are not in that app, it can loop you into the play store. Happens to me a lot

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats pretty bad... only reason why i asked is because ive done it before while scrolling down lol

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know, don't worry, you're just trying to see if you can solve the dilemma. It sucks how it has to be like that, though ._.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i rooted my phone (Oneplus 3 non T) and used luckypatcher to get rid of the ads - worked for me

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if you have an idea of the ad that it was, that would make it much easier, because while some ads are fine there is occasionally this problem

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds more like you already had a virus running as a background process. The operation of spawning new pages needs to be hard-coded

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

A virus that just happened to link up with the shitty ads goals? Not the issue, imgur has admitted these kinds of ads slipped through before

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Which app?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Happened to me on the official app

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You might have accidentally tapped it. Ive accidentally tapped ads that haven't loaded, or tapped them because of lag.

9 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 6

It doesn't matter, that shouldn't happen anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

There wasn't an ad on-screen, and I hadn't even gotten to the bottom of the previous post. Though, I can see what you mean.

9 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 5

Are you using the official app? I've never even seen an ad on here.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, there were quite a few posts on it when the official app got adverts, and they were littered with malware.
