The Story of Coffee, an Old Man & a Mama Dog

So I’m a coffee addict & this is my favorite coffee shop in my little town. I even worked with the owner and did a fundraiser for one of our Cat initiatives. The staff and I have become close, and they notified me of a stray mama dog that has been almost hit on the highway a few times. They said the owner is an elderly man and needs support. Little did I know….

I went to the gentleman‘s house to offer resources and what I found was this beautiful mama dog named Maggie who is taking care of nine puppies. The owner told me a neighbor had already taken a puppy and one ran off because he was not fast enough to catch it. This poor guy was in no shape to be taken care of a situation like this. I offered food, spay & neuter resources, and he immediately accepted and asked if I could take all of the puppies and find them forever homes.

I called the girls at the shelter and said I know we are full, but we are yet again in another tricky situation. We took all nine puppies to the shelter and were able to make a spay appointment for mama Maggie in two weeks. She will also be receiving her vaccines. I dropped off a large bag of food for Mama and some chew sticks. I know she’s probably gonna be sad, I am too.. Why is it so hard to separate them!? Ughh, I cried just a little. The older man did too. He was so grateful, and we even offered to help fix his fence. He really loves Maggie. I will provide him with what he needs to keep them both together.

Now, we get to work. Baths, vaccines, dewormer, and some much-needed love..

And more love, and maybe some toys, and maybe some more love...

Never again, Mama. Never again. Thankful for rescue and coffee shops. Spay & Neuter friends, cheers. This was today's day.. #rescuelife
