Apologies in advance for the selfies but I mainly take photos of my projects to share with my partner while he's at work.
I was inspired to get into sewing by a denim jacket modification I saw that was too expensive for me to buy. I thrifted a couple of denim jackets, bought some scrap material, and made my own version.
I hand sewed my first denim jackets before I found a used sewing machine online. I give these as gifts to family and friends, which they love.
With the sewing machine, a world of opportunity opened up and I just started making reversible corsets for the Renfair. High quality ones typically go for anywhere between $100-$250. But with scrap materials and hand drawn patterns, I can make myself a similar quality one for about $20 (plus a little blood, sweat, and tears).
This one is made for someone with larger melons than myself so you can see where it's a bit big.
These are by no means perfect; they're the first two I ever made. But they are wearable and reversible.
Many of my friends love the Renfair but live on a budget so fancy corsets are out of the question. I'm very excited to be giving a few of these away for birthdays next year.

#1 with no intention to sound creepy, this is hot

Your work is so incredibly beautiful!
gyrum
I like the jackets. Neat idea.

Maybe I'm crazy but
Black denim > leather
reddeadvixen
For some things, absolutely!
VaultGirl69
No need to apologize. Didn't show your face. Good job. 👍

For all you single people out there. When you see someone take a stance like "this is my shit and I own this" and you also like that shit. Talk to them ASAP.
CrisprCAS
Shows a project and no face, so valid selfie exemption. But needs pet tax.

if you live anywhere near St. louis, MO there is a shop "City Sewing Room" that takes in donations of fabirc and resells it for $2/lb. They get tons of donations each week.
reddeadvixen
I don't live in that area, but we have some similar stores here that have yielded some really cool finds, like the brocade above.
zhasylB
amazing! do you have a youtube channel? I would love to follow your tutorials (if you have them ofc)
reddeadvixen
I don't and I don't, sorry! I'm not that advanced, mainly in the figuring things out stages.
zhasylB
no worries at all! your work is beautiful!
Tiny
These are so flippin cool. Those reversible corsets I need for my Ren-fair outfit 👀👀👀
reddeadvixen
Thanks so much! I'm a perfectionist so I keep making them over and over to try and get them just right. I'm starting my third this week.

"Which they love" -- of course they do! Very nice.
LateNightBunnyParty
Heeeeeyyyyy, fellow seamstress! Impressive work on all of it! I sew a lot of my own clothes too (including a jacket I think you'd probably appreciate -- look through my posts) and gotta stop for a virtual high five when I see my fiber crafting sisters online! I'm gonna give you a follow. Hope to see more posts like this! Keep it up!
reddeadvixen
Wow! Your work is so much more advanced than mine. How long have you been doing this? Love those shorts with the skull on the back
LateNightBunnyParty
Hey, don't sell yourself short! I think your stuff looks great! I started sewing on a machine when I was 7 and it's always kinda been a hobby of mine throughout my life. I did a lot of customization on thrifted finds in my 20's and 30's, but I really started getting into making clothes from scratch in the last decade-ish.
doppelfisch
I commend you on being able to just use a sewing machine so well! I am cursed when using them. Snapped needles on two, jammed another beyond fixing, and one I actually made the motor spark and smoke, so... Hand sewing only for me! 😅
reddeadvixen
I've absolutely snapped needles and snarled thread. I was so intimidated by the machine I took an intro class
doppelfisch
Someday I'll have to do it that way. I'm so tired of doing everything solely by hand!
illongruci
It's some good work, and that flooring is also awesome. Are you Bavarian?
reddeadvixen
Nope, California-based! The floor is new. Our building manager had leftover wood from his floor so he did ours too. We love the color.

Adding a pet tax to rectify committing the ultimate sin. My sister's cat face planting for a little nap
BurningVeryImportantThings
ultimate sin you say and you think you can just buy us off with some cheap picture of a caaaaaTDAAAAWWWWW lookit how cute!

It's the only way to nap

Tbh, your pictures, while technically selfies, are not the type of selfies that rule was meant to ban.
graehall
these are frkn amazing, that transparent backed jacket with flowers over a backless dress is so unique and stylish I love it
reddeadvixen
Thanks! I feel a little unoriginal since I'm just replacing panels and choosing fabric but I love the results.
DumpsterKoala
Mate, that second pic is so friggin badass! I want one so bad!
reddeadvixen
Unfortunately, I'm not sure they make denim jackets in koala sizes. So sorry!

'Tis a cruel world

Ever since I saw one of these I started collecting Jean jackets and lace etc
But that’s just another project on my list.. Now I have inherited my mom’s sewing machine. (She used to be an excellent seamstress when we were kids) Now just to start learning how to use it! I just know it can happen. You’ve given me hope ;0)
Morgan96
There’s some very helpful groups on FB, including up cycling denim. I learned so much from just watching Cornelius Quiring’s shorts (lol) on YouTube. I picked up sewing 5 years ago and fell in love with it!
reddeadvixen
I was super intimidated by the machine at first. I ended up taking an intro class near me to learn all the different parts so I feel more confident now
Morgan96
Also, cats and sewing groups, the best of both worlds!
Morgan96
Love your post and projects! Every time someone mentions their sewing machine, I wanna see it and their work space. There’s some great denim up-cycling groups on FB if you haven’t already found them, they’d love your jackets. Following for more inspiring projects.
Mercurybird
Definitely going to look into this!
Littledirtybirdyfeet
Excellent work OP! I love the black jacket in particular
reddeadvixen
Thank you! It's one I made with my little sister in mind. It's very her.
