Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God

Viking metal

Be'lakor - Stone's Reach

Melodic death metal from Australia

Dark Tranquility - Fiction

One of the original Gothenburg bands that started the movement. Every track on here is awesome.

Gojira - The Way of All Flesh

Art of Dying is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Insomnium - Shadows of the Dying Sun

The opening song, primeval dark, is amazing.

Kalmah - Seventh Swamphony

Every song on this album is amazing. They call their music "swamp metal". Check out the video for the title track, it's hilarious.

Mastodon - Leviathan

Hearts alive IS my favorite song. First Mastodon album I ever owned, first metal album too.

Opeth - Blackwater Park

One of the best metal albums out there. Every track is epic. The title track and Bleak are my favorites.

Wintersun - Time I

Album that got me into melodic death metal. Great for those hardcore D&D sessions.

I'm on mobile so I can't do a FP edit, so uh, send me your favorite metal albums? Also no messaging on mobile lol

It's pretty creepy that of the 5 albums I have on my phone, 4 are on this list!

The Way of All Flesh is by far one of my favorite albums. An instant classic.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have good taste.

I fucking LOVE Kalmah! Swamplord is what got me into blackened metal.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seen more than half of them live, got merch and/or listen to most of them regularly

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saw Amon Amarth last night. It was a fucking spiritually brutal and amazing experience.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These are some fantastic albums. Senior year of high school all over again.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is basically what top10 sold records in Finland would look like. ... Or used to. Now it is only hiphop'n'shit. I'm sad :(

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

First Wintersun album is wayyyy better than Time 1

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Disagree. Like both for different reasons. Glad he left Ensiferum, though. He's better on his own.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Heard/like them all. +1 for the lesser known guys. You should check out Meadows End from Sweden. I designed their logo. Great guys & music.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like it! Awesome sound!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awesome! I'll give them a listen

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dark Tranquility is bad ass.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Thomas Pridgen (legendary drummer, use the YouTube) listens to heart's alive before every gig to get him hyped. It's insane.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hearts Alive is my favorite Mastodon song. I've had the pleasure of seeing them play it live. It was awesome.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those were the good days.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I concur.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only band missing is Katatonia

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can't stress this enough!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't gotten into them, but they've popped up a few times in my searches.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meshuggah!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Holy shit you just looked into my heart and posted what I wanted. Please more

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm going to post more soon. I wasn't expecting so many people to love the same music.

If you haven't heard of these, I assume you don't listen to metal.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As good as time part one is check wintersuns self titled album. It is unbelievably epic

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think their self-titled album is much better than Time I, though both are absolutely incredible.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP Insomnium?! Dark Tranquility?! I think we've just become best friends. You have no choice in this. We are friends now.

Love Insomnium

Sad that their lead guitarist sucks live though. Couldn't stay on beat.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some metal albums most metalheads know by heart*

10 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

This guy knows

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Amon Amarth is my favorite. But all of them rock

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Saw them live a few years ago, they still have so much fun playing together after 20 years! Jomsviking is a great album too.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are playing near me later this week hopefully I can go

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just got a first listen of Jomsviking. Another great album!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey that's not bad!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I'll take it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't mean that in a bad way lol. I like the vocal style and the melodies on guitar. Definitely has a newer sound to it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always upvote Opeth.

10 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 1

Minus the fact the last few albums are a snoozefest...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got to see them live a few years ago. Great show. Opener needed to learn how to set up their sound system for indoors, though.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one time they got booed off stage when they opened for dream theater

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That crowd should be burned alive.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm on board. No one boos Opeth.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always upvote a comment about Opeth

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Upvotes for both, because Opeth

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Watershed will always be their greatest album.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You hear the Deliverance remaster?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was actually listening to that one earlier. It is definitely a nice piece of work!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For me it's Blackwater Park, both are masterpieces

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will agree. Most of their music is incredible, theres just something about Lotus Eater.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mastodon kicks ass! Good pick.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Can't say I'm a big fan of their two latest albums, but Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are my favorites from them

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't know much of their stuff. I really like the song High Road and Oblivion. I have been meaning to listen to more of them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their best songs to me are: Blood and Thunder because riffs. Divinations because dat drumming and the motherload because i just like it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And Neil Fallon of Clutch on Blood and Thunder.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Motherload is catchier than fuck.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Blood and Thunder is really good.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gojira are insane.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Terra Incognita is one of my favourite albums ever.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing band especially live, their new single Stranded is out and it is awesome!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for this, I wasn't aware. Now listening.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From Mars to Sirius is the soundtrack to my entire life. One of those albums that I can always come back to

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saw them open for Slayer. They sounded awesome!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They were awesome live

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of the few that maintains their studio quality live.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, only saw them once and it wasn't headline show but they just crushed the rest of the bands on the bill. New song out now too.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw them with Kvelertak and Mastodon (who headlined). Such a great lineup

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw the same concert in Boston. Awesome show, and Gojira wrecked.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw that advertised but that line up didn't make it over to Scotland. I saw them supporting Ghost along with some other 'scene' bands.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These are all pretty damn popular metal bands.

10 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 0

Seriously theyre like the biggest ones. Im more shocked when people *havent* heard of them. Thought OP was being a sarcastic dick for a sec.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm surprised and pleased to see Gojira. That band is heavy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try Baranduin and Lemuria.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, but some people may not have heard about them :D

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That feeling when you love every single band on the list except for one that you've never heard of. Time to discover something new!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Insomniom is kinda obscure

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Boy are you in for a treat if you like metal.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah man I found a whole mountain of unsigned/underground prog bands and I just assumed these guys were aother boy was I wrong

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*Insomnium. And under which rock have you been living?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Idk I just found them yesterday haha

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know many people in my area who listen to them

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

Move to germany, or to be more precise, stuttgart, extreme high band saturation and people with extremely diverse musical tastes. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Btw: check out my good friends, archetype. https://archetypede.bandcamp.com/releases great melodeath from germany.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Move.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that, OP! :o Sounds like it's time to leave that horrid place.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I take it you don't live in Europe?

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Correct, live in the states. Northeast. Mostly pop shit here

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I correct sir new hampshire here. Metal all the way

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Live in the NE, can confirm. The only ones on this list I knew were Amon Amarth and Mastodon. Mastodon is the only one played on the radio.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Listened to every single one of them and most of the people here i guess know at least one or two bands

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Happy to know that there's s good group of people on imgur with the same tastes
