that place looks ghetto as fuck. look at those guys wearing gang colors in the back. A lock isnt going to stop them
TheHighKing22
Well I'm sure glad that you clarified that the Dutch Prime Minister is locking his Ministerial vehicle. I would have missed that.
boobcat
You probably could get around DC on a bike, why doesn't Donny Deal Breaker do it since he's such an athlete.
forreallyandfortrue
I would be so impressed if a US politician of any measurable power was shown at this level of humiity and working together.
I'd be impressed of any politician, measurably powerful or not.
GuestChrist
What cool people the Dutch are.
M15F1T
That's a €1300 bike btw..
EvanPotatohead
With, or without him on it?
canibFrank
I love cycling. Just came back from a spectacular mountain bike ride. If I could ride to work I would, but I would hate to ride in a suit.
cyno01
Is there a gym close enough to work to bike there and shower and change?
That's a great idea but right now work is about 35 miles away so would be a 2+ hour ride. May do this with a diff gig, tho.
criggie
Achieveable. Ride slower though, pace yourself. Remove, roll tie in pocket. Do not wear a backpack, and arrive 15-30 min before meeting.
Cheomesh
I used to ride into work every day, though my boss-people wanted me to stop.

but this isn't the Eu, but a country, the Netherlands. And the PM's party received a plurality in representational vote. He was elected.

The Prime Minister in The Netherlands does not have nor needs protection. He walks around and you can just meet him in the streets
angelghoul
He isnt lazy like the rest of us.

I'm not terribly surprised. Isn't the Netherlands THE bicycle nation of the world? Or have I gotten that wrong?

I remember going to Amsterdam and being surprised by a) the sheer number of them and b) how ready they are to run you over
Claxonclaxonclax
GET OUT OF THE FUCKING WAY!!!!

Yeah, the cyclists treat pedestrians like dirt.
Hardstylelover
They treat everyone like dirt. Damn cyclists
TheSpeakerOfTheHouse
So they're the cars of Amsterdam.

As someone from Amsterdam I always try to guarantee the event of b) being one of the memories of Amsterdam for tourists

Just got back. LITERALLY. There’s a lot! But super friendly to tourists that have no idea what side of the road they are supposed to be on
TheDrop3rdStrike
As an American living in Japan I fuck it up wherever I go! "Oh yeah, I'm supposed to be on that side!"
ZombieZooZombieZoo
They were assholes to us. But maybe that's because I'm American.
Gummbah
Inner city cyclists are usually assholes here in the Netherlands..
It was some people at a coffee shop
jrblast
That's possible. I went to England once and the restaurant people were being a bit curt. At some point we mentioned we were Canadian and 1/2
Suddenly they were super friendly.
WhyAreAllGoodNamesTaken
There are two guards - why would he need a lock?
JackOnImgur
Otherwise those guards would take his bike for a spin like those two parking attendants in Ferris Bueller.
Niteman
Bicycle theft is apparently a problem in Denmark, or so I've heard
LurkerOfDarkness
It is, a lot of it is drunk people taking them to get home.
EvilKam
Um... Habit! Yes, you want to stay in the habit of locking your bike. :)

They may take it to do doughnuts in the parking lot.
Grillparzer
I don't care if there is a freaking company of guards, you still lock your bike up.
Queble
Trust me, in Holland NOTHING will stop them from stealing your bike
SJohnson23
10 Downing St is one of the most heavily guarded buildings in Britain. The front door cannot be opened from the outside - it has no handle.
No one can enter the building without passing through a scanner and a set of security gates manned by armed guards.
In the 5 years after Tony Blair became PM, 37 PCs, 4 mobile phones, 2 cameras, a VCR, 4 printers, 2 projectors and a bicycle were stolen.
Otherwise you can't take the key out.Someone might lock his bike as a joke. It's something you do without thinking.Like putting on a seatbelt

Plus Holland is notorious for bike theft. One of the main reasons that the PM wants to form a new government.
FreeHealthCare
That was a well thought answer

Happened to me in school once they put a motor cycle lock on it ...
Valkyr1987
What does a motorcycle lock look like?
Hmm kinda comparable to a brake pad/disk pins on both sides of the weel and then locksitself in place, had to use a grinder get trough it
FloodingWaters
what key? do dutch bikes have built-on locks?
ferrybig
They come by default with a frame lock, you can lock and unlock those in 5 seconds. The key can only be removed when the lock is locked
How do you lock them where you live?
separate chains or U-locks. simply disabling the wheels would do little to prevent theft. pickup trucks are common.
derwulf
http://media.localmile.org/2013/05/DSC_1145.jpg Probably one of these
i guess that makes anyone carrying a bike super suspicious
So, when I was in Denmark my friend lost the key to his rental bike and carried it all the way back. No one raised an eyebrow.
