my face and head hurt so bad so I went to see doctors. they said you have shingles...and its probably because of your recent cancer treatment. they seem to have attacked all the places you recently had radiation. apparently cancer treatment increases your chances of getting shingles by 40%. this was day one.
these are the gigantic pills you have to take to lessen the shingles in your system (don't know why pic is so small, sorry phone app users)
this was day 2. I have a tumor in this eye and used radiation to battle it just a few months ago. shingles=very painful, do not recommend. please opt out!
day 4. look I can open my eye!!!! it really is the small things
someone blessed me with this wonderful aloe plant and a friend came over every day for a month and loaded my blisters up with it. made a huge difference and helped a lot. that and ice packs!!!
my two dogs for tax purposes, of course
Naramumu
Godspeed! Wishing you well and kick the cancer in its nuts.

Dunno why people insist on posting their ugly selfies and personal info on imgur like its their FB wall. No one here fucking cares

We seem of similar age. I had shingles on the left side of my face back in February/March. So painful. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies.
Laylah77
Hoping you feel better

TurtIeproof
At dinner with Grandma and she says, "I had Herpes once, it was all over my back, it was so painful." "Wait, that was SHINGLES, Grandma!"
gnarlyfartz
Being immunocompromised from cancer treatment leaves you vulnerable to flare-ups from things like shingles. Sucks.
MorallyCasual
You have a lovely smile @op Hope you feel better soon.
ASE7ENK
My mother was diagnosed with brain cancer 3 days after my birth, I'm 33 and she's on her last legs but still kicking, kick cancers ass!
VanessaNelson
Gabapentin? I hope it works for you! Love the happiness of the aloe, God bless and all that <3
mooselover002
yes i’m also on gabapentin but makes me very nauseous. coupled with the rad nausea it sucks
Bugguts1957
Do please kick cancers ass. We could stand more of that smile in the last photo
Bringer0fJoy
Wow someone coming every day for a month to help you with that! What a staggering display of love and care! ?
theokaychick
I had (no cancer related) shingles at 39. It sucked. See an acupuncturist. They will make you feel so much better. And in days not weeks.

*Hugs* You're a badass, hon. Keep kicking its ass. All of it--the cancer, the shingles, all of it. :)
ILikeFugu
The TLDR is that cancer treatment blaps your immune system hard, which allows latent chickenpox in neurons to reactivate
lovinglockdown
I’m going through radiotherapy and nobody told me this could happen. Hope you feel much better really soon. Xx
thesceptre
@mooselover002 Same thing happened to my wife, one year after her treatments ended.. the break out was in the radiation zone.
turbotricycle
I've had shingles. It fucking sucks. Stay strong op.
beaurexgard
Valtrex may be extremely helpful here. I tend to get shingles from working long hours, without sleep and poor hydration. Valtrex stops it

Mine tends to peak at seasonal transitions...especially summer to fall...where I live it may be due to ragweed allergies

Oh hon, i’m so sorry. You’re a warrior! Love Denver.
Wdusln
As if you needed shingles on top of everything else ? Hope you are feeling loads better asap
Phraxonomy
Shingles is a latent infection that flares up when you’re stressed or you’re immune system is weak.
Phraxonomy
So rather just an unhappy coincidence its unfortunately pretty common in those sorts of situations.
ananswertoeveryquestion
A pox on cancer! I hope you heal quickly.
jaggcomputing5
Um, I think she is complaining about the pox she got on top of cancer....
littleleaguefan2222
I had shingles once. Came during an incredible amount of stress. I feel for you. I really hope you can let go of some of it and get better!
Mikey667

What kind of treatment do they have you on? Anything besides targeted radiation? Sorry if this is too personal - just curious.
mooselover002
i did gamma knife and intensified modulated radiation. waiting results as these take time to kill the tumors
Heffe3737
Ugh, the waiting is the hardest part. I have a PET scan tomorrow to see if we got mine. You’re a badass - keep the faith!
caidoe
Hi @op, sorry to read about your brain tumours and now shingles, send you can't catch a break. My girlfriend was diagnosed with a brain
caidoe
Tumour in her frontal lobe two weeks ago and had surgery to remove a week ago, been a fucking wild ride. 8 months of chemo and radiation
caidoe
