@47 I am finally getting the treatment denied to me through all the BS around ADHD. It's not fun, it ruins lives and I will never get those years back.

Parents don't believe in ADHD. Not my kids... lived thinking this is how the world is and I just suck in comparison to other people

It's a prison in your mind and saying stupid shit like - just focus, cut down on the stimulants, in my day it was xxx, they will grow out if it. Is condemning people who are essentially just wired differently to you and need some help to exist in your world.

So read something at a proper ADHD support group, go get that diagnosis if you fit the criteria or think you do

And when someone says they have it, don't judge. Help inform people so it's not stigmatised

100% this

Being treated like I'm making up my ADHD is infuriating.

I’ve already started getting this slightly and I’m torn between being open about it b/c awareness or not telling anyone b/c this reaction

Yeah. I am to. Do the bits we can. Even little steps count

I was diagnosed when i was 8. Never took the ritalin they wanted me on but i was pretty mild. Once i hit 30 things started to calm down>>>

A lot. My wife still notices times when i just can't listen to her and going 1000 miles a second but there was definitely light at the end>>

Of the tunnel for me. Being a chef my whole life was also a great job for me. Kept me going non stop

I’ve just been diagnosed this week and already I’ve had a couple of skeptical friends think I can’t possible have it. Also saying 1/2

“I’m forgetful too, maybe I’ve got ADHD lol!” which is quite devaluing! 2/2

Yeah, I get the same when I share. Just try share facts. Oh, and how often do you forget midsentance?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All the time. I wrote down symptoms to take to my GP and I forgot examples of things I forget as I was writing the list...

Yeah. I email my therapist and after 3 months. I still have things I have thought of I have not been able to get to paper.

My brain also freezes like a computer sometimes - I’ll just pause and stare at the person/into the void and wait for the word to come back.

Yeah. My ex hated it so much and I ever understood why it happened. One of the things that cost me my marriage

people think that if you can do it once or in one area of your life, things like focussing, then you should be able 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

to do it all the time and everywhere and it just doesn't work that way!

My mom used to tell me that my medicine was a punishment for my not just controlling myself.

Parents will fuck you up faster than the speed of light. Hope you're enjoying good management and not judging yourself for it

I'm fine, thanks! Learned a lot about what not to do when it came to handling my own ADHD son. Also came to understand that 1/2

however bad my mom handled things she was honestly doing the best she could at the time.

My entire childhood all I ever heard was how my parents just weren’t disciplining me enough blah blah I’m just obnoxious

Hope you've found someone to talk to and have assistance in managing it if it's still around

Fortunately I grow out of it in my teens. Was so bad I was removed from school (they didn’t want me) & placed in a program for troubled kids

After 2 years troubled program told my parents we see he has a problem but he doesn’t belong here, other kids doing assaulting staff...

Doing drugs, bringing weapons with them. So I was forced back into school against their wishes

Glad that turned out okay. That could have gone very badly if you picked up any of that. We know we have addictive personalities
