Edit/Update?: Went to what they called a triage appointment and according to my scores on a survey, I have severe anxiety, and depression. Recommended course of action was medications mainly due to time (plus its what I wanted) and I go tomorrow to a MD for those. So.. joy! Another appointment to anxiet about lol

Also, first time front page! Thanks for the support guys/gals! And a majority of the comments are people in similar situations so good luck, and GO!

Good work! Took months to see someone about my anxiety. Got help and haven't had much of it in two years! Hope you'll feel better soon

Trust me... Make sure you go. Walking through that door is tough ( been there) but it helps. Also, download Ap called Headspace. It helps

This just happened to me. At the appointment: "Your heart rate is a bit high." "I'm anxious about discussing my anxiety!" Was worth it.

I did counselling. It didn't work. Saw a psychiatrist. She helped..sometimes you need Building blocks to overcome obstacles. Good luck op

I feel you. I made a doctor's appointment for the first time in twelve years and I'm so nervous to go in on Friday.

I've never related to a post more on this site

Good for you OP, I literally just went through the same 3 weeks ago. I have been on meds for 2.5 weeks now and they help. Good luck!!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is how I felt the first time but I promise it's worth it! You feel so much better after!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So I did this, went to counseling, it didn't help and was kind of awkward for me. It didn't hurt, but I stopped going after 2 visits

Go see a different one. Sometimes it takes work to find the right one.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had the problem that the counsellor was a fellow colleague.... I knew the 'tactics' and felt like talking to a mirror :/

Hooray! I'm so proud of you!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just made an appointment to seek help as well! We should start a club.

I've been treated for anxiety before - and now I'm working on depression. I filled out the intake form yesterday. I'm scared too. GL OP.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

v You can do it, OP!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had severe anxiety in college. Didn't tell anyone. Barely graduated. 7 yrs later: anxiety is back. Still don't want to discuss. How?!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i just did the same thing actually!! good for you OP, its a step in the right direction. Just go to the appointment, you won't regret it.

I feel so much better after going to my appointment. Meds make me feel normal again.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Must be something in the air, I just got my appointment set as well...make self care a priority!

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can do this. The first step is the hardest, but you feel feel so relieved and proud that you're on the right path.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My partner just did this too! Proud of her, proud of you!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I made moves to see a therapist a few years ago and then cancelled last minute because I was too scared. I wish I would have gone be strong!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also did the exact same thing yesterday

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just went two weeks ago. The doctor checked my pulse and said "guess you really do have anxiety!" And laughed. Then prescribed me Zoloft.

My life! Panic attack in the car every time. I physically can't drive myself. You're stronger than you know. Seriously :)

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

My hubby is the opposite. He can't ride with anyone w.o panicking and throwing up.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well I have just realized my anxiety is quite tame from these story's, I just have them in social events then they stop if I get comfortible

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My family will make fun of me if I was to try to fix my anxiety. They already call me a pussy for backing out of going to things all thetime

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your family sounds terrible. Get help and you won't back out all the time. You should do what's best for you, not what you think they want.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been going to the doctors, but fuck is it brutal. I try to keep on a good face for my family, but when I get behind closed doors...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did, however, make an appointment with the psychiatrist. I'm so so nervous and just anxious andksdfjng

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've thought about seeing a therapist so I don't give serious thought to slamming into the barrier on the freeway when there aren't any cars

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

--but I don't even make a livable wage so I guess I'll just manage.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you make less than 15,000 and are in a state with medicade expansion in the US, you can get assistance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think gross I make something like 20,000. I'm hourly, but I make just under the average livable wage for the area.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ugh. The minimum might be different per state. Some clinics also offer a sliding scale based on income. That's how I got started.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've sort of looked into it before, but never contacted anyone because I didn't know who. I'll try to give it another look.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in the same situation!! My appointment is on Thursday. Nervous! I've been having panic attacks and ignoring them for more than a year.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Same, had three appts so far. It's weird knowing there's sort of an end in sight :D Good luck!!

That worries me, one of the reasons why I haven't seen a doc is the medications that might be involved. Have to make sure I don't overdo it.

Anxiety and depression suck because they're a part of a small group of diseases that actively stop you seeking treatment.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Just as bad when you end up questioning, "Am I depressed enough to count as "depressed"? No no, of course I'm not. Gotta think positive..."

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've been seeing a therapist now for three weeks after a year and a half of denial. It's for anxiety. After talking to me she asked if >

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

> I wanted to treat my anxiety first or my depression. Having gone there for anxiety issues, I was a little confused. I told her I'd been >

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

> on and off depressed for so long I didn't even consider it a problem anymore, just something that happened. I was never depressed "enough"

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I can relate to that. Comes and goes, but always there. Have perhaps gotten too good at faking it through the hard times.
