My most complicated papercraft model yet: Samus

Jul 13, 2017 7:41 PM

This is my 8th papercraft model I've built. Took a little over two weeks of on and off building. Made with 32 lb paper (not quite cardstock, but much sturdier than printer paper) and Aleene's Original Tacky Glue to hold it together. Here's where I found the template for those who want to try it: http://nintendo-papercraft.com/samus-aran-complex/

This is what I started with. 347 pieces in total. surgical scissors and an exacto were my best friends.

Started off with the helmet. Without a pair of tweezers for some of the smaller details I would have given up real quickly.

Closeup of the jump pack and rib details.

Torso complete, time to move on to the arms.

Closeup of the cannon arm. One of the easier parts of the model, so it was nice ot move on to.

Non-cannon arm.

I was really proud of how the hand turned out. Again, I cannot express the importance of those tweezers enough.

Everybody needs a nice set of shoulder pauldrons.

One of the legs. I never knew just how pointy her knees were. After finishing both of the legs it's time for final assembly.

"It's just a flesh wound! I've had worse..."

Arms on, still looking a little bare without those massize WoW-like shoulders.

And done. This is by far the most complex papercraft I've attempted, but I'm looking forward to other challenges soon.

A few of my other papercrafts. Here's a post of them if you want to see them in more detail: http://imgur.com/gallery/ppipF

Call me weird but my first thought was I wonder if I could do this totally stoned while listening to the Happy Mondays? Mmm....

Meh, it's not a spaceship.

How do you start?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Most of the models you download will come with parts that are numbered so you know the easiest place to start from.

Thanks! It's crazy how much you can learn just by trying something super challenging. I got MUCH better during the building proces of Samus.

I'm gonna totally look into this. I've been craving a meticulous hobby

I did this same papercraft. I put coins in the feet to help her stand on her own. It worked great.

Im actually planning on putting some weakish magnets in her feet and building a landscape for her to stand in to attach them to.

As a Metroid fan who had a rather bleak previous 10 years, you got my vote.

Why is pikachu so huge? He's as big a blastoise!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was designed by a different model maker, so the scale is different. And it was one of my first so it's not that great.

That's dope AF!

wow nice. this makes me want an iron man one and a master chief one

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen a couple master chief templates, and there's a tank buster iron man that's about 5x more complex than this.

awesome, do you know if there is possibly one for cyrax from mortal kombat?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This might be a full sized papercraft of his armor, but it's something. Haha http://www.papercraftsquare.com/tag/cyrax

Well done @OP. Are you ready for the life size paper Link from Zelda yet?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god. I've seen pictures of it. Wish I could scale it down, but the pieces would be so small it just wouldn't work. Life size it is then

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I look forward to seeing the results! When I did mine, I printed it on plastic sheets for added rigidity

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not a bad idea, otherwise it looks like I'd have to glue in a ton of extra layers for stability.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't seem to find a working download for it anymore though. You wouldn't happen to still have the files?
