I wipe, and I wipe, and I wipe, but still poop.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And... it's human poop?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Corpus Christi and yep, this happened in 2020. Happens every year really, just to different extents. All us locals know about it.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Land of the poop, home of the shitheads.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

Ted Cruz gone swimming?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wonder what California would look like if they did a similar study. Hmm

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If you’ve ever smelled the Texas gulf coast, this does not surprise you at all.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As much as it may be fun to poke fun at TX for lack of regulatory prudence, on our CA beaches it's local warm streams that cause trouble

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

There are corporations who ignore regulations just to stick it to the government, and just calculate fines as part operating costs.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a former risk manager, I can tell you we're always trying to figure out damages vs probability vs insurability vs compliance costs.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Human poop?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is an important question I also have

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which poop type would be ok?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, what I'm seeing is... It gets cleaner the closer you are to Mexico.

4 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

In every aspect (Houstonian)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The dots are where people live, so it's really cleaner where the people aren't.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, shit.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Houston is pretty shitty, that’s true

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 7

Like we all knew it but now we have the science to back it up

Secondary sewage treatment and elimination of residential septic fields can turn it around quickly as the ocean has a high capacity to

clear most of the solids once the volume of flow falls below what it can process, is the good news.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since @op didn't include links, here is the source data. National issue, y'all. https://environmenttexas.org/reports/txe/safe-swimming-0

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The articles url is over 140 characters but its San Antonio Current, author Sanford Nowlin. If you Google that.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the link. I did not expect Oregon to be that bad.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly, everyone is shitty at protecting waterways. Hopefully humans can stop destroying our ecosystems before it's too late.

I wonder if it's the location being in the corner of the gulf that causes poo to build up in certain spots

Looks like someone mapped all sightings of the legendary T-Cruz?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Texas is such a shithole, top to bottom. Wish we could improve the education standards in the south...

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 12

Sure, pollution is just a Texas problem. /s https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/cleanest-and-dirtiest-beaches-America-180951869/

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Aw, @PNW downvoting because you're provided with a source of dirtiest beaches based on NRDC research. Shocking.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I’ve run into them before. I only remember bc they said China’s pollution is caused by US companies. That level of stupid sticks w/ you.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's pretty shitty(ha), but at least they're pooping in the ocean and not just in the streets, like in California.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 11

Uh... Texas absolutely has shit in the streets. Same homeless problem that exists everywhere. Have you not ever been downtown in Dallas?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Texas’s homelessness rate is ~1/4 that if California’s and Oregon’s

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

"same homeless problem exists everywhere" ROFL guess we know where PNWTurtle is from

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

I travel (at least pre-covid) for work quite a bit. Yes, your little shithole has a homeless problem, too. Every city in the US has it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

i didn't read the label at first, and i thought that that was the percentage of how much water had poop in it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Let's say that there's a hell of a lot of polluted beaches in the US.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Life in Republican-land.

4 years ago | Likes 185 Dislikes 38

Life in Conservative-land. It's worse with Republicans but also present in states run by the other Conservative party, the Democrats.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

It happens at every beech just a quick google shows NY, Mass and Maine have the same issue. Nice try and being a political dbag though

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The worst site in CA is worse than any of them in Texas. Cabrillo Beach, which is attached to the Port of LA, ships dump their poop there.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The currents are a major reason. The whole gulf swirls into Tx coast. Why would Republicans allow that...........

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah - most blue states are the same shit show - the problem is national problem - we've become fat, lazy and complacent

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not about being republican.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

yeah it is

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

YeAh iT iS

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Nah, as others have pointed out. Exists in democratic areas too.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It is in this context because Republicans hold Texas up as a beacon of "independent republican idealism" and its a fucking disaster.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

No it isnt. Its about ocean currents and population density. It happens in liberal areas as well.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Everyone in California reading this...

4 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 12

on average California has it better, the big stuff wrong is resulting from the greedier vital companies and Texas has less regulation there.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

On average, yes. At its worst, no. One of the state beaches is inside the harbor at the Port of LA, ships dump their shit in the harbor.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know right! This occurs in democrat or republican lands. No need to point something out which is wrong

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Yeah just bury your head in the sand and go for swim at the poop beaches.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mismanagement and incompetence is party-agnostic. Outright intent to disrupt the workings of the government, less so.

4 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 4

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Let me guess. Sewage treatment isn't regulated either.

4 years ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 3

The western gulf of mexico is basically america's toilet, in that anything that drains there (including the Mississippi river) stays there

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s regulated here (UK), water company’s still put shit in the sea. Southern water were fined 90 mil for exactly this.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I think the regulation is make sure it's down stream and down wind of my house. That's about it.

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

There’s more regulation to what you stated. Down wind, down stream from the protected group of Paxton, Abbott, Cruz, Cornyn and Crenshaw.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You bastard, the whole system is rigged in your favor.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

DoWiSeTrePla

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hear that's a real up-and-coming neighborhood

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's federally regulated. But also, this isn't just a Texas issue. Humans are destroying waterways.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

I should also point out that the TCEQ regulates wastewater disposal. Like most environmental agencies funding and staffing are issues.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brother got a massive fever after we went to a turd beach in France, the issue there was that they charged money for toilets at the beach

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And probably for the same reason we're ruining the environment. Because not doing it would cost money.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is probably the worst thing I have laughed out loud at in a very long time. If that isn't worth an upvote, I don't know what is.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

and then they hatch and grow up and become new republican voters.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the poop is just insane, too

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Within months, those eggs will hatch into what we now know as the Texan.

4 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 3

Rootin’ tootin’ time to make a texan, so lets go poopin’

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This made me chuckle. I am a Texan, and a majority of the time, I am a turd.

One of those turds is even a senator now!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's from 2014 dude.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Boy, it sure looks like that map corroborates the OP's infographic.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My point is this graphic is provided without context to essentially be a "haha, fuck texas" upvote thirst post. When if you look at the 1/?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here's the study that article references: https://environmenttexas.org/reports/txe/safe-swimming-0

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Providing a link to one I posted in this comment threw a few hours ago...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The supporting data was super easy to find, I googled the article's author. Found it almost instantly.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seriously. I googled "Sanford Nowlin" and then saw he was an editor for a news outlet and found the story. The story had the study.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you can't trust the power lines why is it not surprising that the sewers are an issue?

4 years ago | Likes 608 Dislikes 9

Did they have floods there? That's a common problem anywhere after heavy rains or floods

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I believe Texas is not known for heavy rains or floods. Just saying, i really dont know shit.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I think they do have them from time to time

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's fish poop.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is there anything Texans can?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The entire united states has a water/sewer problem that ppl just ignore.

4 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Its not a problem until its a problem.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Everyone thought Flint was bad, but there's a lot of places just like Flint and get ignored.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's what happens when you privatize your utilities. They always pursue the greatest short term gain with no concern for long term cost.

4 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

A study showed Aqua (main private water company in the US) cost an average 5X as much as public water utility

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Still looking for that study source on Aqua specifically, here is one that shows cost increases when water is privatized generally:

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All while being less reliable and often providing gross looking brown water to many customers. I had them in NC.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not about privatize as much as 0 to little regulation.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's what privatization inevitably leads to.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And when you have the most selfish generation single-mindedly cutting their taxes so there’s no money to maintain/replace stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Well, the rich needs money to experience space flight. The rest can experience floating poop.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Lol Texas can't handle a once in a lifetime winter storm, meanwhile new york can't provide power for ac on like, a regular summer day

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 32

Not true. I live in NY, ac on when needed, never lost power.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Once in a lifetime" right. That's why they had raised similar concerns several years ago, multiple times, due to similar conditions, -

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

- that Texas lawmakers ultimately did nothing about, even though everyone knew that the grid had winter problems

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It’s amazing how often they get hit by ‘once in a lifetime’ storms. Makes you wonder why their lifetime is so incredibly short.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seriously? Is that what you think life is like here? I had friends who lived through Sandy's flooding without leaving their apartments.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I can only remember one city-wide blackout in the last decade. And that was a cascading failure across the East Coast.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

you do realize large swaths of texas was asked not to use their ac hardly at all else the power grid might fail right

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

You do realize its because coal power plant capacity is being replaced with wind power right?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 12

Texas relies on gas power. Wind power accounts for like 10% at most. Winter storm hit gas and nuclear, wind performed better then expected.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's more like 20% and up to 40% at times. Gas powerplants never went down during the winter storm they were made to ramp down.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

The primary issue is Texas regulation does not enforce winterising. Wind can function in environments like Antarctica

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Legit thought people were just pooping directly in the water

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They, apparently, are.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, what kind of water treatment plant puts out poop? Where i live, the water gets processed many times before going back to a lake or s

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It happens sometimes. If a treatment plant serving a combined sewer system can't keep up during a storm, they do combined sewer overflows 1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which is basically just dumping raw sewage into a river or lake. If CSO event is happening, try not to swim in or drink the raw sewage. 2
