The CEO has stated publicly many times they're not raising the price of the hotdog. It's been a loss leader for a long time now.
Nightcrawler63
Thank you Bernardo Sanders for once again asking for our help.

There's no reason it can't be a loss leader.
Yupurineutah
Neither is a huge $5 roasted chicken.
Marmbo

yourcommentisstupid
He's facing 95% of the store...

I thinkThey should tie the price to the inflation index. It would be a really neat way to put an esoteric economic indicator into the 2/2
Minds of rank-and-file Americans.
Sheirynn
they actually said they were keeping it the same price because the customers come first.. or some such thing but it is not going up
18yearoldBlackDynamite
oh so thats what the ceo looks like. god bless him and his efforts
macgerdo

Syko73
Did someone say they were going to change that?
CrocoiledunDee
I think he has had enough.
nukesontheway
They don’t need to increase hot dog price, just membership price. And if you don’t like that you’ll be protesting outside
SuperPickle17

IKEA in Sweden tried to increase their hot dogs price from 5 kr to 7 kr and the protesting started. That idea was cancelled a few days later
aThingWithTheStufAndTheJunk
I'm not sure I realized IKEA had hotdogs because why would anyone get anything but meatballs?
GoblinTit
I had a customer yell at me about high prices because "You own the hot dog stand!" Um, no I don't, and this is a Wendy's, Sir.
thevortexmaster
The hotdogs in Canadian Costco are also $1.50 which means cheaper than the USA. Plus we still have the Polish dog
AFutileGesture
That settles it. I'm moving to Canada even if I have to sleep in my vehicle for a while and put most of my stuff in storage.
Dalael
If you can't afford to come live in Canada, then you can't afford to stay in the US.
OddlyPacific
Lucky!
Ya. The only thing cheaper than the USA hahah
Damn that Polish was good.
Alistairetheblu
Also Costco has some *amazing* poutine.
mthrndr01
Do you still have the sauerkraut??
Been a while since I've been there so not sure
LeRubberChicken
Nah, so sourkraut or onions or peppers unfortunately. We still got big ole Hawaiian pizzas eh!
Dang!
Shaodyn
One of the co-founders once said to a later CEO of Costco, "If you raise the price of the hot dogs, I will kill you."
Costco CEO Craig Jelinek explained why the combo would never go up, noting Costco cofounder Jim Sinegal was hellbent on keeping it at $1.50
"I came to (Sinegal) once and I said, 'Jim, we can't sell this hot dog for a buck fifty. We are losing our rear ends.'"
"And he said, 'If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out.'"
And that's probably why the food court requires a club membership now
I don't even know where the nearest Costco is, so it doesn't make any difference to me either way.
LeMegachonk
This seems as useful as protesting to make sure the sun comes up every day. I guess that's usually called "prayers", but yeah, same thing.
SkynetWithAPoopKnife
Dear sweet baby pagan Jesus! You mean to tell me that you're not doing your daily Sun Dance??
Me: goes in to buy $1.50 hot dog and $5 chicken for dinner, end up spending $150 on “other” things.
divingin
Called a loss-leader. Designed to get people into the store. So they can do exactly what you did.
MisterLemons
That's a legitimate market strategy in practice there. There's a science to where products are placed in a store.
SPQAAE
Yep, place the items you buy on impulse near the checkout.
$150? those are rookie numbers!
Luthierfer
I've never got out that cheap.
swedeonamoose
Why i refuse to visit IKEA, i always find way to many, huh i bet this could be something i might need one day, items.
DocNitro
Only had that happen once. Went in to get one of their cheap carpets for my all tile bedroom, got one, PLUS a Blahaj.
you never know when you might need a blue shark.
ilovebigmutts
Bring back chopped onions and sliced peppers...

dmorulez
Can thank COVID for that one
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
Personally, I don't blame COVID for any of the changes made by the pandemic. I blame the COVIDiots.
Yes and keeping it prolonged for much longer than it needed to be.
SirPrized
And Deli mustard!!
Fuck yes. I hate that chemical-tasting yellow shit
Gerthquake
Costco employee here, these died due to COVID but the reason they're not back is inflation. They don't want to raise the 1.50, so compromise
thatwoodguy
I'm willing to pay a quarter more if I can get some sauerkraut with mine.
So would many, and this may be the way they end up going. 1.50 basic combo, 2.00 combo with extras.
Sayagain
Can I go buy bulk condiments and leave them at the prep station for everyone? Never been in a Costco.
TheobromineAddict
Yeah, I just noticed the onions were gone. Prolly never buy another hot dog because of that.
samurai77
Just ask they are behind the counter now. At least they were
They disappeared during Covid lockdowns, when the Food court menu was drastically downsized.
I want sauerkraut.
Only if served by an extremely busty woman to the tunes of oompah.
