Unfortunately she passed away in 2018, however I never heard of her work until now, so sharing in case others also didn't know. Absolute wonderful work

Amazing woman. Also, see?! You *can* hug (certain) elephants! There's hope regarding bears yet!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She wrote a book: Love, Life, and Elephants. It is worth reading, I learned so many things from her.

I follow the Sheldrick Trust on Facebook for all their cute baby elephant videos.

Magical Kenya.

Their Insta is delightful, lots of baby elephant videos & opps to support, even if all you can afford to do is like & share!!)

I wonder if the elephants were allowed to go to the funeral

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I visited there in 2017. It’s amazing. The babies come running from over the hill for their giant milk bottles. They’re very rough with thick scraggly black hairs on their body. And covered in mud. They rub their backsides on you and throw water and mud from the buckets. It’s a gorgeous day to see them and the great work being carried out by the place! They have giraffes that you can feed too!

It’s an amazing organisation her daughter now looks after. We are lucky in life so instead of wedding presents got people to donate to the Sheldrick and got to feed them milk at their bedtime on our honeymoon. Simply amazing animals. They send a lot of updates and pictures/videos to sponsors so it’s a great gift for an animal lover. https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org

That's my ultimate dream right there.

What an amazing lady. May she rest in peace.

She and her late husband started the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. They care for elephants, rhinos, a few giraffes, and others. I regularly donate to them since they do good work.

The Sheldrick Trust does great work it is truly a magnificent organization.

Elephants are quite intelligent. I visited the Elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka and they were just interacting with people everywhere.

Pinnawala is a nice place. From memory they have all ages there whereas Sheldrick moves them when young back to the wild.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I just like that they are left to roam in large areas.

I like the one where the elephant swipes that ladies hat and puts it on.

It’s fashion and they know it

I've visited her elephant orphanage in Kenya. Super place (and the baby elephants are adorable!)

Are they hiring?

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

There wasn't when she did it! Be the change you wish to see, granted be safe aboot it

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For real. I would dedicate the rest of my life to this in a heartbeat if it was something I could just get hired for.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Write them. What can you lose? You already don't work there, so either you win or nothing changes...

My mother dislikes xmas presents so every year I donate to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and adopt one in her name

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust does amazing work in Kenya: rescuing and rehabilitating hundreds of orphaned or badly injured baby elephants for eventual reintroduction to the wild, as well as field teams to find and treat wounded animals, and programs to create watering holes for wildlife during drought. They also teach local people about conservation, and provide locals jobs caring for wildlife, which reduces poaching. Donate if you can!

She's better than Mother Theresa

MT was an evil, foul whore.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well cus theresa was a cultist cunt that denied pain meds to others while happily took em herself when she was suffering.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I like that the dude is wearing her green dress to carry on her legacy

2 years ago | Likes 236 Dislikes 3

I wouldn't doubt that it's possibly a cultural clothing but maybe the green is to associate the good humans. Granted elephants can tell people apart so dunno on that part.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice call. I didn't even notice. He looks great in it.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wonder if dressing the staff in the same color does have something to do with helping the animals identify Good Humans

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

it is, it's so the elephants can always recognize who the Keepers are

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But not a real green dress. That's cruel.

2 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 2

This is extra funny because he took her dress so potentially made her a barenaked lady

2 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 2

Must have taken one week to take it from her.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Actually she stole his body to continue her work.

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Yes. Normalize ecologically responsible dark magic.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

We should bring back the old idea that if an ecological criminal is cursed by the old bog witch for trying to drain the area to build condos/parking lot/castles, then he had it coming

Putting the romance back into necromancer

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Definitely worth an upvote. Her earliest success ended tragically. They figured out a formula for elephant milk and successfully kept an orphan alive. However she had to travel at one point leaving the elephant for several weeks. The elephant died of heartbreak, literally. They learned from that how deeply attached they are to their family, and from then on rotated keepers regularly to ensure that they were never completely reliant on one guardian for their mental well being.

I guess I need more friends.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could that also explains why her and the other guardians wear the same colors (apart from that one pic), so the elephants can project "mom" unto multiple humans in some way?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok that made me big sad

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

On the upside, the elephant never had a chance before her and it's passing ensured no other rescue would make the same mistake again. Sad though it is, the end result has been salvation for many an orphan as well as given people something serious to think about. This spoke to the depth of emotions in elephants. We talk about dying of a broken heart figuratively, but elephants actually can and do, and that too has altered our understanding and respect for elephants.

I now want a movie made about her, maybe directed by Steven Spielberg or Disney I don't know... Just a movie with good production value and attention to detail like some of the other conservation heroes have received.

2 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 2

Who did the Prince of Egypt? I would want them to do it. It might not be best animated movie, but the voice cast was stacked and the soundtrack was amazing

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's DreamWorks

Born to Be Wild is a 2011 American nature documentary short film about orphaned orangutans and elephants. It was directed by David Lickley, written and produced by Drew Fellman. It was distributed in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures and IMAX Pictures. The film was released April 8, 2011, and is narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Yeah, but an elephant baby would die of heartbreak. I can’t view that. Maybe Disney should do it. They’re good at horrifying death in children’s movies.

2 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

Sounds like a Don Bluth kind of production.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's always the mothers they take out

Not anymore Disney really started going downhill after 2010 now atleast 3/4 of their shitvis garbage.

I put off watching Hatchi for that reason. I knew I'd be a puddle. Finally my wife made me watch it with her saying 'it can't be that bad!". We both were bawling.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That was the only media to ever make me cry. I never cry at anything, and haven't since, but I bawled my eyes out at Hatchi. Still worth the watch, but have a few boxes of tissue on hand!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Exactly why I haven't watched it. Or A Dogs Purpose. Turner and Hootch gutted me as a kid. Can't do it man.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sometimes the pain makes the movie. No one really wants to feel pain but that creats anger towards the poachers thus reducing the allure of poaching(not that there is allure but obviosly people do so some are pulled)

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

This is why everyone loves Up! (2009) it punches you in the face with emotion right from the jump

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Plus experiencing pain and anger through a movie can assist you with coping with it in real life. It’s like a practice run. It’s basically lube. Makes it just a little bit easier when life fucks you dry.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It can indeed give you other perspectives and reactions with possible outcomes not forseen when written properly
