wonderful pics! Was lucky enough to have this experience last year, posted the whole story not that long ago - enjoy it! :)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your money tree makes a good home. I think I'll come live in it as well.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

True story: My dad put a jellybean in a hummingbird's nest. Looked exactly like the eggs. I thought it was mean. He thought it hilarious.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I live here now.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

You maybe give too much water to your plant. That yellow leaf.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Piss on them to show dominance

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does it live in your house?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had that happen to me too! Fuckers shat on everything! The mom spits their poo form the nest to keep it clean. But gosh, they're cute!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Aw she looks so proud!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Congrats on the sex.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cool !! Please give them their distance, but update us with photos if you can !!!

10 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 3

They do sorta get comfortable with you after a while. One made a nest in a hanging wire in my unfinished garage long ago.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Avocado tree!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah we've avoided using the front door to get in the house now. Just coming in via garage door.

10 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 0

That's awesome !!! Please try to document this with photos!! I'd love to see the little ones hatch !

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's very nice of you :3

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where do you live? Also what kind of plant is that? I need to make this happen...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its a money tree / pachira aquatica as someone else mentioned.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm wondering what kind of plant that is also, I have that same thing in my house, no hummingbirds though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it might be bamboo. My bamboo tree looks just like this.... and it has had 2 hummingbird nests. Maybe they have a thing for them..

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How beautiful. I feel very peaceful looking at it. Not to sound dopey but it's kind of like the surrounding noise goes quiet.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plant: Pachira Aquatica.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

aaaaaay, macarena!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are gonna be an humminguncle!

10 years ago | Likes 438 Dislikes 3

He could be a hummingdaddy if he moved in..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Homunculus. Full Metal Alchemist.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Gonna get a hummer!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent use of "an." An harmonica!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife is an editor.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP has to wait for the birds to hatch to know if he/she is an aunt or an uncle! Everyone knows that.

10 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

Good point sir

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I personally prefer hummingbuncle.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

You said buncle, now you have to say uncle... in to my butt

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sounds hot. I'm in.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make sure you have some method to keep cats away. I've seen so many poor bird families destroyed by a damned stray. It's heartbreaking :'(

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 3

When you said ruined bird families I pictured dad bird at a bird motel with a bird hooker.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

do you know how humming birds have sex? really fast

10 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 2

Just like OP

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Oh so I should just tell my wife I'm a humming bird.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

And they still last longer than me...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They do it in midair. I was lounging outside one day and saw a pair just going at it daredevil-style and was like "K, enough spring for me"

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

I came home to a a seething frog orgy in my garden pond today. I feel sorry for the poor fish.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Hummingbirds only mate for a few seconds. You might have seen a fight.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I don't know, it was a really coital fight. And I did only see them for like, 2 seconds before they zipped off. Maybe it was rape.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Might have been a mating then...though many (most?) species land on a twig to mate.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So eggs benedict?

10 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 11

It would take a gross of hummingbird eggs to feed an adult.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

only feeds one small child.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wait, so the antifreeze guy gets lynched but infanticide via eggs Benedict is up 12....?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Searched for Anti-freeze for ages... couldnt find it, much dissapoint.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get a hummingbird feeder. They're inexpensive. Saves the bird leaving the nest for long periods hunting for food. helps avoid predators

10 years ago | Likes 1815 Dislikes 5

Nooo then it's a pet. Prime directive, dammit!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Or just eat the eggs

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I was always under the impression that hummingbirds only used the feeders as fuel to hunt insects? I suppose it would still save time.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or OP could sit beside the nest all day long and protect the eggs from predators.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I do NOT recommend putting up a feeder right now. It might invite other birds, causing this family to abandon the nest. They'll find food.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

yeah I might take it down after all since it doesnt look like she takes from it. dont want more things for her to deal with while incubating

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

German here: Difference between inexpensive and cheap? Does cheap mean it is of low quality, too?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the item

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great idea! Make your own sugar water (1:4 ratio) instead of that red stuff that's not good for them.

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I don't believe that sugar water is the hummingbirds natural diet

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The hummingbirds in your area drink blood?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, thirsty little blood sippers they are.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tbh any predator could eat a hummingbird they're so tiny and defenceless.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

but very very vicious.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They're defenseless but also vicious, got it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like an angry chihuahua, sure, they try to bite the shit out of you, but come on, it's the size of a turd.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I thought the same too. But the babies mostly need protein from small insects. Good for mom at least.

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Yes! Put out something to attract gnats or fruit flies.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I might move it/put it elsewhere now for the mom.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I'm excited. There's a nest right outside my apartment. Two eggs due to hatch any day now. I think it's 14-16 days

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

be wary of touching, moving things as birds are mistrusting of hoomans. The last feeder I put out took almost 4 days to be accepted.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup, Time to start using the back door.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"Back door" grabbed my attention for all the wrong reasons. Then I realised you were being helpful not crass. I'm just a mucky minded fella

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i've actually did that and hung it up on a tree i've seen the hummingbird visit. but so far the bird isn't taking the sugar water :(

10 years ago | Likes 563 Dislikes 0

Actually they eat a lot of insects, especially during mating season. Feeding the chicks pure sugar would not help them develop!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1:4 ratio sugar:water. Make it yourself, don't need red shit from store.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I also heard that if it's ever been washed out with soap that they won't go for it because of the taste

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've heard coloring it helps too - I'd google food dye hummingbirds

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make your own sugar water, the store bought is bad for the birds. Something about the artificial sweeteners and colors.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It won't visit if it's too close to the nest. It doesn't want predators to easily follow it back

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yes, what some others have said - make sure to keep the feeder clean!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try getting a type of sweet nectar. Sugar water works but they have nectar that you can buy that works a little better

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP please keep us updated

10 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 0

Try coke zero - just kidding don't do that.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

is there good colour to the feeder? don't have to colour the water, but make sure the "flowers" they drink from are a nice vibrant colour!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's actually better if the feeder is cleaned daily with soap and water and the food changed daily. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sugar in the water makes it easy to grow fungus that can kill the little guys. I hope the babies grow big and strong!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes it takes a bit for the birds to find a feeder, wait a bit, she'll find it :)

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Make sure it says "gluten free" on the feeder, otherwise bird will not touch that

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 4

who would want a hipster douche for a hummingbird-bro?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Make sure you replace the water every week or two, the sugar water can go bad

10 years ago | Likes 344 Dislikes 0

They won't go near it if there are ants on it either that happened to my mom's feeder. Just leave it there, they'll get more comfortable

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

You can prevent the water going bad by adding anti freeze.

10 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 214

It's an obvious joke! Why were you downvoted?

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Joke about racism and nobody bats an eye. Obvious joke about killing a bird and imgur loses its mind. meme

10 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 26

The things we care about...

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Didn't you know it's a sin to kill a hummingbird?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Jokes against each other and we're fine and can handle it. Jokes against weaker species and we feel bad and above the standard set.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Fuck you

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 12

Or preferably don't. I'd rather not have his/her offspring in this world.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

You realize this is a joke, right?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

More often if it's hot

10 years ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 0

We don't want drunk humming-mothers around kids/humming-babies

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I dunno about you but that sounds exactly like something that would be very entertaining to see
