OMG! Me and a friend spent22 hours finishing Toe Jam and Earl. When we were done we finished half a carton of Marlboros, 4 liters of and about a gallon of coffee!
Can i get some names on the games, there are several in there i dont recognise. Also toejam & earl are definately missing. About time to break out the segas again.
One of my favorite genesis games was a title called "Final Zone" where you play as a sort of anime inspired mech, roaming around a map killing shit with different weapons. Buildings can get destroyed and you wander around the streets fighting enemies.. It was a lot of fun
In the first stage of the aladdin one, if the chubby guard doesn't see you and you peg an apple at him his pants fall down. I spent hours cackling at that as a kid. Lol
Lion King, Ecco (1, 2 and JR), Sonic 2 are the main ones I remember. The entire Ecco soundtrack was SO good, and the songs of the last few Sonic 2 maps are ingrained in my head forever
Nice, Yes that's one we had. I didn't post a bunch of the battle games yet either. With literally over 800 Sega Games and probably over 200 more by others, it's a huge library for such an old console. Which we had two that proved to be indestructible.
This game was instrumental in my development of appreciation for rpgs. It had a semi-open world, nonlinear class development, multi-approach missions, and so many other things that I still like in my games today. It was my exposure to a cyberpunk style setting also.
#6 I was immediately struck by how familiar that music sounded, suspiciously similar to the PS1 game Medal of Honor (for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JR0-gXihbgw) and sure enough, one of the Gargoyles' game composer is none other than Michael Giacchino (MoH's composer, just in case).
I find it odd that I play the retro games a bit more often than the modern ones. I always return to Rocket Knight Adventures, Symphony of the Night, Jackal, Dick Tracy, Double Dragon 2, and TMNT Arcade to name a few.
Yes I'll play MGS5, Shadow of War, and RDR2 as modern games, but older titles still cook as a game 40 years later.
I've never seen anyone else ever mention Jackal. Back in the day my parents would beat it pretty much daily. Whenever my brothers and I played it with them they would carry us all the way to the end.
On the hand, Konami might have forgotten about the franchise but apparently it's in the same universe as Contra and they were playable in Contra Reborn.
No I don't think that was, but I also didn't experience it lately. That game was so ambitious that people have broken the nemesis system just by testing its mechanics.
Fucking Ecco man... It's Friday night, you rent a video game. Its a silly game about a dolphin... oh fuck, fuck, what is that? ... Did someone slip acid into my Mountain Dew Code red?
It really was. Great gameplay, fun concept (c'mon, an opossum with a freaking jet pack!), great music, hilarious graphics... what's NOT to love? The sequels were all also pretty fun. I hope Konami makes more games. Also Sparkster absolutely should've been in Super Smash Bros. IMO he makes more sense than Solid Snake haha
Sparkster on Genesis is different from Sparkster on SNES - totally different story, different mechanics, different levels/music, etc. Rocket Knight is on Steam and a few console arcades (should be like $5 now) and is 2.5D and a lot of fun - one of the best return-to-retro games I've ever played. It's the most direct sequel to the original RKA. There's also a comic book for Genesis Sparkster I can post if you want it :D
There was a glitch in the Aladdin game where you could come out of one of the pots (I can't remember if it was a checkpoint respawn or if they were teleports?) where the animation of Aladdin snaking out wouldn't stop and he'd go off the bottom of the screen. I don't know why, but it gave me nightmares as a kid and terrified me when it happened. Probably some form of early life existential dread. Other than that though good game, I should try to complete it.
Sandopolis zone act 2 was essentially the same thing as being underwater. It's just that instead of drowning, it was ghosts. And instead of grabbing air, you had to reset the lights.

I was really hoping to see Jungle Strike included in this dump. I played the crap out of that game on my Genesis back in the day.

What, no Vectorman? For shame.

You're missing that goddamn Lion King game. Holy shit that was hard for 7-year-old me.

#10 definitely my favorite Genesis game. The controls were dog shit, but it was so much fun and had a great soundtrack.

Cruis'n USA is Nintendo, sorry but these were just some of the Sega games. Nintendo games were very cool.

I'd love to see a Sega Master System version of this post.

It's a bit of a bummer the Wii remake never got that far. https://www.unseen64.net/2012/04/30/jackal-wii-prototype/

Has SoW still got that bug where Talion’s level will just suddenly drop 10-12 levels and force you to earn them back again?

Love how every Zone in Sonic 3 except Marble Garden had at least some water, and then Sonic and Knuckles didn't have a DROP of it.
