Mehdi debates Matt Taibbi on the 'Twitter Files'
https://youtu.be/a597e6Wv_xg
Ina nutshell. This dude used to write for Rolling Stones Magazine. I don't remember what happened to this guy.
Mehdi Hasan Dismantles The Entire Foundation Of The Twitter Files As Matt Taibbi Stumbles To Defend It

Mehdi Hasan be like
Us watching the interview like: Stop trying to make The Twitter Files a "thing", is not gonna happen LMFAO.
CannotBeBanned
What a fun interview! Dude just digging his own grave
CanadianFurr
What even happened with the twitter files, anyway? I haven't been keeping up with that.
JHRD1880
Holy shit. He fucking annihilated him. That is glorious watching.
hogeyegrex
And Musk doesn’t give a shit, because his “Twitter files” did their job already. They muddied the waters, and spread a bunch of bs. Like Hyperloop was only floated to hobble CA’s high speed rail project. As soon as it screwed things up, he abandoned the idea. It had done its work. Fuck that guy.
RockKickass
My god that was brutal
humanbeantapiocaqueen0
Jeebus H. Christmas!! Has an straight up murdered Taibbi and make him eat his own shit onstage! That was fantastic!
RockKickass
Mehdi is badass when it comes to interviews
likeumreal
But tossing a pizza? Not so much.
fartharder
I used to respect Taibbi's journalism.
BlairT1
“That was an error” Yeah, going up against Medhi was also an error, Matt. What a spineless conservative shill he’s become
BlairT1
“Mehdi”

Republicans: "Of course he's smart, he's rich!". Smart people to Republicans Paris Hilton, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, a baby that inherits 200 million dollars.
MatthewBecker
When a fake journalist talk with a real journalist
graehall
wow, nail on the head right there
LAMovieDesign
The real bummer is that a lot of us remember Matt from doing really good work for Rolling Stone on the 2008 financial collapse. It’s wild to see how some people can go from well-meaning to batshit crazy and easily swayed. Fuck Matt Taibbi.
TheJuiceLoosener
Pretty unfortunate that Taibbi didn't come armed to discuss what was the actual topic at hand that led to the appearance - Modi & Twitter. I think that failure was probably the most damning thing. It's one thing to say that he hasn't reported on DeSantis, but when you took up the challenge and then came on pleading ignorance, it looks a lot like you're turning a blind eye.
SailorVSays
Damn, I used to respect Matt Taibbi when he was writing political articles for Rolling Stone, but uhhh... yeah... Not anymore, I guess
AsABiologistWhoIsNotFunAtParties
Same, the contrarian grift was too tempting I guess. Same with Glenn Greenwald.
AregularolPlumbus
Idk that it’s even contrarian anymore per se. It’s like they started being contrarian, and the because they were scorned by the left for “both sides-ing” they got all bitter and basically just became right wing instead, but used the contrarian mask to make themselves seem less biased.

#4 Why not both?

My thoughts exactly

Watch the interview if you want to see a man killed in public.
maxdefault
It feels like a principal who caught a 13-year-old smoking in the bathroom.
TheOneTrueZippy8
I really don't want that.
khora
I avoid cringe as well.

Short of it is a journalist who used to be on the left is now peddling stories about how democrats control big tech to censor conservatives except his facts are off and his narrative leaves out lots of context.
FaithAlone
Taibbi’s big story is the democrats in 2020 were pulling strings to control Twitter admin to take down stuff Biden didn’t like. This fits the idea that big tech is censoring the right wing. But his narrative leaves out a lot of context.
khora
Like that Trump was in office and requested far more to be taken down.
RocMage
That interview was awesome. Hasan let Taibbi say everything he wanted to say and Taibbi still came off looking like an incompetent idiot.
JustADayTripper
really? i am not familiar with taibbi or what his twitter files are supposed to be and am not sympathetic to him but hasan didn't really let him talk if only to dig his own grave. Tried to get a gotcha moment in getting him to publicly distance himself from elon but this was just classic network television riling up their own base not unlike what tucker or hannity do in my opinion. there was a dicussion to be had but this was not it.
TheJuiceLoosener
I think they were talking on different levels. Taibbi was focused on his story and what he felt it reflected happening among powerful circles leaning on the socials. Hasan seems interested in the larger issues about speech. Taibbi seems to think his story shows a serious threat there, but if he really is unaware of what DeSantis is doing, he's uninformed & his judgment is blinkered. Not that it must be a A v B, but Hasan is right. Arresting people >>> taking down Hunter Biden's nudes.
Hopefulgirl1
I love Medhi Hasan, very intelligent man
IToldYouSo1
He sure is 🗽🙌🙌🙌
HowWasThisUsernameNotTaken
I liked Taibbi, once. I thought his work about financial and judicial divisions was great. But he walked away from that to be a shittier man
micuu
He pulled a Glenn Greenwald and decided right-wing grifting is easier and more profitable than actual journalism.
IToldYouSo1
🗽😏 WE are still getting shit done without him 👇✌️
RandAIFlagg
People can be intelligent and have good insight in some areas and still be complete idiots and assholes, unfortunately. I dunno Taibbi and I get the impression they're not worth learning about so I'm not gonna bother.
alcaray
I wonder if this is a follow-the-money situation like with Sinema.
RocMage
I don't think it was direct cash, but I think it was power and influence. He was being called up to the big kids table and he liked it.
bonoboforscale
As someone who liked him and is dismayed at him now, yes I think you’re right
