LupusLilium
#10 reminds me of The Magicians when they come to get Julia from the dungeons. 'There are talking trees?' 'Not anymore. *Laugh.*'
Tudagub
I'm my current campaign I am a rogue that takes all the pretty rocks and leaves the gold. Although if the party needs something he buys it.
Curadh
I know I've done my job as a GM when the players break down in relieved laughter when one of them breaks the tension with a joke.
UnicornofPeril
Pointless Dude armor is the only armor my characters ever wear.

StonesOnTheHill
#3 FAvorite PAthfinder memory. Barbarian takes one rank in linguistics, learning Draconic to speak to a small fairy dragon. later meets(1/2)
StonesOnTheHill
Wyvern. Proceeds to deliver such a crude insult to it that it dives straight at him. Wyvern dies from fall damage, barbarian lives.(2/2)

Where did I last see that giant mountain monster?
WarlocknLoad
Magic the Gathering
WilliamMcLaughlin5150
"Labyrinth of Madness", imo is probably the best campaign adventure.
WilliamMcLaughlin5150
Gold, silver, platinum, etc. encrusted animated skeletons?
lowtanus
i need to do this
reineseele
If i aint an elf no wood is sacred.
AbrahamWithAWiffleballBat
I wanna play dnd :(
lowtanus
roll20.net maybe i'll see you there.
AbrahamWithAWiffleballBat
Thanks!
EJ9utah
I don't get this game... How much of it has to do with the imagination of the players/DM?
lowtanus
http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/bth.gif
lowtanus
the world is the dm but the pc's entirely the players so the dm crafts change's the world based on how the pc's interact with it so both
EJ9utah
Cool, thanks

When the DM says "roll for initiative. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4031/4341856892_440ccdb3c4_b.jpg
lowtanus
launched a new campaign a few weeks ago "roll for initiative" was my first line of the night. and "you are finaly out of initiative" my last
lowtanus
the whole first section was one massive fight as the city they where in came under attack.
FranzNewbrian
WilliamMcLaughlin5150
Has anyone here fought against a Tarrasque?
DrShrinker
I had a party obsessed with gold coins. Enchanted castle had shit loads of gold in every statue, they spent hours trying to get it all out /
lowtanus
DM: ok so you found 30'000 gp so what are you going to carry it in?
DrShrinker
in one trip. When they left the castle it all turned to copper.
lowtanus
lol that sounds \amazing i can just hear the crying lol
Sentinelricce
Hey, it's still money.
BabyWitchErika
still would be worth a lot tho, if we're talking hours of picking them up, plus a decent sized party(4-5) carying at max capacity, lots~
NotQuiteDeadYetPool
There are a lot of things I don't understand. D&D is one of them. But it seems like you enjoy it, so +1
lowtanus
take Tolkien, Pratchett, harry potter and hitchhikers guide. throw them in a blender, try to tell the story that comes out 1/2
dontaskmedifficultquestions
It is fun, but depends on the people you play with and your DM
lowtanus
2/2 while 4 other people can interact with the plot and chage a sean intirely. add a dash of alcohol and monster and hilarity happens
NotQuiteDeadYetPool
That all sounds fun, good on ya.
Yodaloid
Poor Sean. He's never been the same

can't see the last one. Its way to small
WilliamMcLaughlin5150
How about a mimic in the shape of a coin, that devours other coins, but a rust monster won't consume?
UnicornofPeril
Delicious in Dungeon has those! They nest inside mimics and eat them from within.
orangatuan
#9 What do you mean? He is now invincible.
wantednokes
#1what does "Natural" or "Nat" i guess mean in the context of DnD?
plebeiusmaximus
It's the result of your dice roll before any modifiers are applied.
wantednokes
I see. Good enough
plebeiusmaximus
Ah, I should have added that a 1 is usually means you failed at what you were trying. In most cases quite hillariously.
wantednokes
I understand that. I just did't know what Natural meant
PinkyToeSlayerOfTableLegs
Just made my character with my group last week. This makes me even more excited for my first ever DnD experience.
lowtanus
just remember dont take things to seriously. if you die just try and make it memorable. and most immprtent have fun
PinkyToeSlayerOfTableLegs
Thank you! Good thing I never take anything too seriously. I'm always having fun!
SpecialContainmentProcedures
I'm going to try it for the first time this winter when I head back home to meet a buddy
lowtanus
good for you same advice i gave befor dont take things to seriously. if you die just try and make it memorable. and most immprtent have fun
SpecialContainmentProcedures
I'm trying to make a female tiefling who's DnD hitler. A lawful evil sorcerer who runs her nobility house like a political party.
lowtanus
that sounds amazing if you have the right campaign for it
SpecialContainmentProcedures
I guess how it goes will depend on the guys he plays with. I think they take the game seriously...
lowtanus
i just mean remember its a game dont get in to any fights remember everyone is there to have fun
SpecialContainmentProcedures
I'm not gonna fight with them, it's their game. I'm a guest.
QuitKickinSandwich
+1 pointless dude armor

fun fact that guy is definitely at a gay leather event
lowtanus
well i didn't think he was picking up groceries at walmart lol
ArchMagos
It's even worse because the one piece of actual protection is over the wrong side of his chest to protect his heart.
lowtanus
just trying to determine if that is intentional, accidental or a flipped pic

epic gif choice
BangusDangus
The most appropriate gif.
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
#2 print a list, pass the list around each person can claim 1 piece of loot at a time. Do until all loot is gone.
ArtOzz
I was thinking something like, give whats best for their class to them, and coin toss if two people want 1 thing, or otherwise bargain.
MightyMayhem
But loot items have wildly different values & not equally useful to all party members. Better to divide based on class/need.
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Why? That's not how it would work in a real life adventuring party
FuryofHoboken
but then there's the the rogue that just so happens to have expertise in sleight of hand...
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Rogue? Son this is first edition. And that their better be careful because we play unearthed and the cavalier has 100 followers.
ReaperCDN
So? Sleight of hand means he can palm a ring or a gemstone. It doesn't mean he can palm a shield or a set of armor, regardless of the roll.
ArtOzz
Slight problem: none of this is useful to me so Ill take the new shiny epic for this guy and then take everything but his undies in exchange
Arcanum3000
Seems like a great way to get accidentally pushed into a spiked pit.
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Been doing it this way for 7 years. It works fine.
samsonguy920
I am going to guess you've never played Monopoly and gone through the trading properties process...
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
I have
mirhagk
A twist you can add to this is to have a second list and if someone claims to "need" an item (will equip) then they take it if they are 1/
mirhagk
The highest on the list needing it. Then they go to the bottom of the list. Allows players to get loot they actually need
AlwaysPuffin
I'm transferring to msu looking for people to play with if you're near Starkville
lowtanus
i recomend online gameing my group has a brit an irish man 2 americans and a canadian
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Sadly brother I'm a Hattiesburg man!
keillrandor
Should have written up an adventuring contract first...
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Why
keillrandor
(You haven't seen The Hobbit film then? :P )
lowtanus
but who gets to go first
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
Dm rolls a die with a number ascribed to each player.
lowtanus
and what ife the die dont like one of your players i cant keep makeing the same guy last
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
No you don't roll for order. Role for who goes first and they pass it clockwise. And if anyone wants to whine they can fuck off
lowtanus
my games have a whine tax. payable in wine
quixotegut
Roll for initiative...
lowtanus
so the guy with the higher dex bonus gets to pick first?
Nova5269
My Cleric has +5 Initiative. I'll be thanking you
HazeRiot
Each player rolls a d20. Highest roll picks first, second highest goes second and so on.
Vencakes
House rule: whoever gets the highest number on the damn die gets to go first, so on
DildorTheWizard
Just straight d20 rolls is how we do it:)
KIthas
No you fight for it. Clearly.
Pawnderlust
Don't use bonuses. Just a straight roll
quixotegut
I don't know about all that... but letting the dice decide was the joke I was trying to make while using terms I've heard bandied about.
adjacentengels
Use other modifiers (dealt most damage, dealt killing blow, most resourceful getting to this location / past traps, etc).
ThePerfectTemperatureForHeresy
Think about it, the bad guy slumps over dead, so PC who can react the fastest gets there first
ThePerfectTemperatureForHeresy
And it encourages inter-player trading and bartering
Leonidas55
We always went with either whoever got the killing blow or really whoever calls it first. We don’t normally bicker about loot
rainevasquez
That killing blow seems like a suuuper terrible idea
Leonidas55
At least for our group it is for general loot. Character specific loot the dm makes sure we get.
PowwerOrb13
Hah. My DM hands out either stuff that half of can us (Quarterstaff) or none of us can use (Shield)
MyFrontPorchInMississippi
That's a pretty standard rule.
rainevasquez
I really don't know how to challenge you about "standard" except to say it doesn't appear in RAW, which is irrelevant. point being 1)
rainevasquez
If i operated the game I dm that way, it would be a shit show competing for last hit, and be way too much work as a dm trying to equalize it
Qualtagh
Friendly DMs:
TogeEpine
I need to find myself a nice DM. First and only time I played I died in my first combat. Enemy got 2 crits and my hp was a blood smear. 1/2
TogeEpine
Making my character sheet took longer than I got to explore with. Kinda killed my desire to make another. 2/2

FunAlternativeFact
That's awesome! I'm on episode 39 right now. I still have a ways to go, but I'm loving it and I don't want it to end.
lowtanus
whers the fun in that. if they win they should feel like they accomplished something
ColoradoGirrl
Our monk keeps joking he has nipple piercings now because in our first encounter he got shot twice in the chest by a goblin.
zigzagler
As always, it depends on who you're playing with and what they want out of the game. The symphony of life is not conducted with one note.
jsexton
If you knew what that party had been through, you'd be okay with it. Hitting L20 was not simple.
Qualtagh
I've never heard of a DM making his players cry as much as Mercer did...
lowtanus
i like to think of d&d like a story and every good storry the hero struggles to get to the end takeing the reader on an emotenal jerny
IlidaIsMyBro
Well, depends, some dm's do this, others simply like playing the sims with the players characters, and you know what I mean by that
jsexton
Not just Mercer! Every player had a few tear jerker moments too. Scanlan's departure scene is one of the greatest RPG events ever.
Qualtagh
Oh yeah... Scanlan was not the one who I expected to bring emotional depth to it but damn. There was a whole component of the last battle --
w1n5t0ns
I try to make my combats feel scary and tense without actually being lethal since my party is mostly first timers who are new to the game.
omh1
Second'd, noobs (barely) survive by the will of GM, veterans get whats coming too them, noob charges drake gets knocked back prone with 1/3
w1n5t0ns
At one point, the party was tasked with stealing a crate off a ship, as they approached and looked for ways on board (1)
w1n5t0ns
They spotted a grappling hook hanging off the side, said 'oh boy that's convenient' most of the party went to brawl with the sailers (2)
omh1
hp, veteran does the same and gets the full attack from it, lvl5 characters don't fair well from that
RemoteControlRox
Bless your kind soul. I’ve been put off an entire system on my first go because the DM enjoyed collecting dead character sheets.
w1n5t0ns
There's nothing wrong with lethal campaigns, they can be interesting but that's best left to more seasoned players, and to tell them first
RemoteControlRox
I knew nothing about the system or setting outside of a little rushed info for filling out sheets. I was not the only one. I usually 1/?
w1n5t0ns
Same with with a videogame, you dont start out on Death March difficulty you start out with learning your character and building personality
lowtanus
I tend to run my game lethal but death isn't permanent if the player want to keep the character. revival is not easy it requires a quest
