Cayde-6 cosplay

Lighting test for my upcoming Destiny Cayde-6 cosplay.

Eyes are powered by fiber optic end-glow strands connected to Neopixel LED rings. Whole eye rig is run off an AdaFruit Flora microcontroller.

Jaw light is a flexible LED light tube triggered by a recessed pressure switch in the lower jaw.

Is this a gif of the voice actor?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hah thats funny

In this video the eye brightness seems kinda high. Maybe use electroluminescent (EL) wire?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The rig is powered by a microcontroller that allows for you to set brightness on the LEDs. This is max brightness, but I'll tone it down.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, those are both issues I thought about with regards to EL. I do really like the soft glow it makes but it's troublesome to wire into >

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

other systems and the whine is grating.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

EL wire has that awful inverter whine. I wouldn't be able to to stand it haha.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It might be a little more complicated, but if you stick a microphone in there and have the jaw lights be activated by your voice volume...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought about it, Adafruit does sell a sound detector switch? It ended up seeming far too cumbersome for what I needed.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, it runs the risk of being triggered by exterior noise, too. Which was kind of a deal breaker for me.

The eyes make him look really surprised.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Working on it!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It looks amazing! Please post updates!

I was hoping for a dog cosplaying as a chicken but this will suffice +1

How do you see while wearing it?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apertures in the eye centers are a solid tube up to just in front of my eyes. Let's LED light out, and vision in. Surprisingly good vision!

This is a reference to something, can't remember what tho, and it's bugging me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am so happy to see that this exists.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any way to make them blink?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's less apparent in this gif, but they actually do blink a few times. That's what the microcontroller is controlling, a random blink cycle

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh cool, man that helmet is so cool, one more question for you, I know it must be a pain to open your mouth all the way to get the helmets

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To look right, any way to make a lever so you move your mouth a little, but more in the helmet? And still be comfortable

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a slightly different type of hinge, sort of like a pair of scissors? That I thought about using to get the mouth to open wider.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the only problem is that it would be need to extend out of the back of the helmet to provide the needed angle of lift.
