Hot air balloons at sunrise in Turkey

Hot air balloons at sunrise in Turkey

Recently a guy I work with tried to tell me the world is running low on helium and this is why. I just said yeah cool I have read that too. But I just couldn't leave it be I had to try to tell him that's not how those types of large balloons float. I explained how hot air rises.... he said yeah well that's how they make helium and then it's compressed into those cylinders to blow up smaller balloons. But we are going to run out soon.

I quit for the day. I should have just said "cool and left

does anybody know why cappadokia is so popular with air ballooning? Is there special weather conditions? Or just the scenery?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is one of those mood memory moments. Just the scenery evoks calm and peace. There are odd moments like that throughout my life. I'd want to setup a lawn chair somewhere near and just watch. Maybe some chill music or lofi to add to it.

The underground cities there are wicked

Cappadocia, amazing experience.

Okay, I'm going to say it: if you reference "Up" then all the balloons are housed tied to deceased grandmothers. There, I said the thing.

I've been there and done this and it's the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. Love Valley, Cappadocia, near Nevsehir.

My cousin got married at 6:30 am so they could ride to the restaurant in a hot air balloon.

I think UP may have ruined balloons for me just a bit.

I can see the headline. "Disney Pixar sues Turkey for copyright infringement over hot air balloons at sunrise."

One of my "if I ever win the lottery" ideas is to find a balloonist willing to get a wheelchair accessible basket custom made if I pay for it and arrange for my wife and son to go ballooning.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No need to win the lottery, friend. In Lisle, Illinois they have the Eyes in the Sky festival. They had a accessible balloon ride. Here's a website for you. It's a list of accessible rides across the country!

Thank you! I'm Canadian, so this will be a starting point to finding a Canadian balloonist.

Is the saturation really turned up here?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sure, if you adjust the saturation like that everything looks like a cartoon

GTA 6 dropped?

This looks like a Mario Kart track

Like magic. I used to live in a place where one or two would take up at exactly the same time I came home from night work... and that was already a sight... but this is something else.

When I was around 9 or 10 years old, one landed in my neighbors yard. It was a pretty dense suburb, but their family had owned the farm it had been built on, so they had the only big field in sight. One of the most exciting moments of my childhood lol.

What are the chances of collisions? It seems that visibility arcs aren't perfect, and some may not be paying full attention.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

These pilots fly every day in season and they're incredibly skilled. They got us to within meters of the rocks while hugging the terrain. Incredible control given the balloon takes time to react to inputs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is amazing. I had no idea they had that kind of control.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been on one of these and they actually do collide sometimes! As long as the velocity is not too great, it feels little different than a bump.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As long as it's an "oops! Look out! Hahaha!" kind of bump, that's just part of the fun!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And what if if the velocity is too great?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was lucky enough not to find out, but googling it, any kind of ballon accident seems very rare.

Kapadokya or cappadoccia is still one of my favorite places in the world. It’s stunning and has a gorgeous pink hue all the time

same

Also the food is great, the people are nice, and the stray cats and dogs are taken care of by the locals. Even the animals are polite.

I see the hot air balloon crop really came in this year!

If you don’t want to go to Turkey , there’s always Albuquerque.

Also Reno, about a month from now. Not as epic as Albuquerque, but still very cool

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's literally impossible for me to hear someone say Albuquerque and not start singing the Weird Al song in my head.

Went out for the eclipse last October and got the balloon festival as a bonus. Fantastic time.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've lived here for twenty five years, I've never bothered going.

I got to go last year for a business trip, and it was cooler than I thought it would be.

Have you eaten Schlotzsky's Albuquerque turkey?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

But then I'd have to be in Albuquerque.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 5

I got to see them setting up in Albuquerque when I visited in 2012. Didn't see any balloons take off, but was cool to see it happening while I was passing through.
