He and my aunt have been posting vaccine conspiracy theories on Facebook since covid started. I didn't want to start shit with them so I didn't say anything.

As a shock to nobody, they both ended up catching the delta variant, and we were pretty convinced my uncle wasn't going to make it. He managed to pull through thanks to science, medical technology, and the tireless work of doctors and nurses. I was hoping the experience would change him and that he would say something like "I've learned my lesson, go out and get your vaccines people, and wear masks in public."

Instead, he attributed his recovery to the thoughts and prayers of his friends and family, and went right back to posting conspiracy theories.

This is one example. There are of course no sources, no news articles, just a picture of a rando in a hospital bed with a bullshit description. Notice how they use "d0se" instead of "dose", "Pf" instead of "Pfizer", and "v—ine" instead of "vaccine" in order to evade the algorithm that would otherwise flag it as a vaccine-related post and potentially get it removed.

I don't know how we got to this point, but covid conspiracy theories are actively harmful to all of us. I don't want to think about all the other people my aunt and uncle have infected with all their parties and traveling. I don't want to think about all the other people who've been convinced not to get the vaccine by posts like these only to get really sick. But this is our reality, so we need to do everything we can to make this shit stop.

People who refuse to get the vaccine (without a pre-existing health condition reason) should be refused hospital treatment for COVID.

If the algorithim won't flag the post, could you yourself report it to help it learn?

My uncle died last night from covid. Guarantee you he's going to be rolling around in his grave refusing the shot(s).

"if at first you don't succeed, try, try again." -- Covid

The cognitive dissonance is unbelievable. If medical science is such bullshit, why do they run to the hospital as soon as they get it?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

cus they know what they are saying bs, the vast majority of covidiots dont buy their own shit. they just hope they can evade consequences.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Report them and their posts for misinformation about Covid.

I have and will continue to

Question: all those other people that got thoughts and prayers, why did they die?

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i didnt think or pray for em to make it?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Turns out stupidity was the real pandemic, and it's even more widespread

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Myocarditis as an adverse reaction is not a conspiracy, but it is exceedingly rare, and it is still worth getting the vaccine.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well, it likely won't help him, now.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband is a nurse, and keeps saying "A bunch of these people are going to die, and there's nothing we can do about it."

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had a very long time family friend pass from covid. All of them said "health complications" cause they are fucking idiots.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pull that plug ... stat

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm going through the same thing with my aunt. Posts nothing but conspiracy bullshit while her husband had to be hospitalized.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seeing stories like this reminds me of a Dr. House quote: "Almost dying changes nothing. Dying changes everything."

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love that quote and it's perfectly relevant here.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Both of my parents were hospitalized and almost died. They're still antivax.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck man, he should have died

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The Pfizer vaccine has been linked to myocarditis in younger ppl, especially boys. Covid-19 has been linked to death and stuff.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister and her fiance are apparently anti-vax.. they have a 5yo kid. The guy keeps spreading propaganda on FB. He's definitely far right

What would we do without our brave prayer warriors?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some people just can't be saved.

4 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

But he was, by medical science.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not the kind of salvation I'm referring to.

STUPIDITY KILLS

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still try. I've been really angry at him but he's also my uncle, and he does listen when I talk even though we disagree about so many...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

...things. I know I probably won't ever change his mind but I can't just not try.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's only so much trying can do. It's okay to see something as futile and walk away.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The blood of the covenant is stronger than the water of the womb. Him being your uncle has nothing against your own wellbeing.

The worst thing that can happen to an anti-vaxxer, is getting sick and making a complete recovery. "See, I'm fine, it's no big deal."

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is rising concern of an enlarged heart following the vaccines. No surprise this is also seen more severely with COVID. Get Vaxxed

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean, yeah, some people are having bad side effects from the vaccine. But it's very few people. Vaccine's way safer than the disease.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That's what a vaccine does. It's not 100% safe, it's 99.something% safe and helps wrangle the disease.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, there are risks in taking vaccines. But, you're more likely to be shot at a school in the USA than suffer a vaccination side effect.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

okay but "conservatraitors" would preffer school shootings over anything remotely socially responsible so thats not gona compell them any.

He actually deleted his reply like the coward he is.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm not anti-vax at all, but I personally know two people who developed myocarditis after getting the shot, one being my little brother

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Google your own published papers!!!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, 911? I’d like to report a murder...

4 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

no room in the burn ward what with covidiots overrunning hospitals right now

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

that's ok, he can get medical advice from all the experts on Facebook

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well for starters link your study, don't make me google it. Im not Ph. D, obviously I don't have the patience

And yet, they think they've done the research...

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

That's the joke, maybe imgurians took it as a statement. I was playing the character of the meme sort of.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Some of us understood :)

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From the outside perspective? That wasn't AT ALL clear. Intent rarely comes across well in text. Your "joke" has failed.

It’s like almost drowning and refusing to learn how to swim

4 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 1

If only. ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I almost drowned twice before I learned how to swim, of course I was like 5 but you know...Hakuna Matata

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's more like almost drowning, then continuing to post things about how swimming is actually more dangerous than inhaling water

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But still jumping into the water

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More like drowning and refusing the life donut people throw at you.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And then going on to post how lifejackets are a scam by big jacket.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, we do see myocarditis in young folks post vaccine but you treat it with anti inflammatory meds and send them home.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Yeah according to the data, it's typically mild and resolves quickly, long term follow up is always recommended though.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah my bosses daughter in law ended up in hospital after her first dose of astra zenica. She's getting Pfizer for her next and is terrified

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You see covid+ people with it too that die. That lets you know be thankful for vaccine, real deal would have been worse

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unvax vs vax dying is 10 to 1. This is all over media or searchable with a few clicks. How this doesn't sink in with anti-vaxx is beyond me.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of anti-vax believe the governments are manipulating the numbers to hide the true scale of the costs of the vaccine.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you think the whole world (incl.multiple governments that would gladly nuke eachother) is conspiring against you, you're a lost cause :(

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's less they think the whole world is conspiring as the reason than they believe vaccines are dangerous and therefore governments must...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...be conspiring otherwise why would they all push the vaccine. The logic makes sense in a way, it's just built on one flawed assumption.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think anyone's died of vaccine myo yet. Meanwhile, there's definitely been some deaths of Covid. You know, a few. Maybe a couple.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I think covid caused three maybe four deaths. I could be wrong though.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think you're missing about six zeroes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware of that side effect.

Nobody reasonable is saying there's no side effects, just that the virus is WAY more dangerous, and the vaccine helps stop the virus.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know, not stating anything else. It was more the way you responded to SensualMeatball that triggered my response.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All I said was that nobody's died of vaccine myocarditis, as far as I know.
