TIL that in the 70s cocaine was actively glamorised and sold via marketing and advertisements in magazines and papers although the drug itself was, you're right - illegal !

In 1979, estimated one in ten adults was doing drugs on a regular basis.

All thanks to the drug lord Pablo Escobar majorly, who piled up a massive fortune via drug trade of which predominantly was cocaine. It was through out the world, but America was one of the biggest 'commercial' cocaine markets .

With so much cocaine in the air and so many addicts, the advertisements further glamorised the drug and marketed goods and ways to use it differently than the user on the next table and in 'style'.

1979 Cocaine Calendar

Hence came in a sleuth of these adverts in various media platforms and there was ironically no check on them, and these eventually helped the drug lords pump in more cash into their personal fortunes.

Most of these ads from 70 to 80s.

PS-A random google search for something, landed me here - http://www.theworldsbestever.com/2015/09/13/back-in-the-day-when-they-used-to-market-cocaine/
No i did not do a random search for 'ways to snort cocaine' !
But this stuff is pretty interesting and TIL for me, so thought of sharing here.
Enjoy your evening/day fellas.
OP - *sips a big sip from the chilled coke*

"Crazy times!" *looks into newspaper*..."Never mind!"

Back in the early 1900s, they would literally keep cocaine in a bowl out at bars for customers to snort for free.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Coca-Cola did contain coke at some point, though. Makes sense

It's public domain, but their color of red is not

Hey! you have no right to tell me what does or doesn't go in this 2ft honey comb "tobacco" water pipe

And the 1 in 10 Americans using drugs stat in 1979 was mostly weed. Cocaine was $100 a gram & $100 was a decent chunk of change. 2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Especially since you could go through a gram pretty easily sharing with friends in a night out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$100 a gram in ‘79? I seriously doubt that. Where?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Texas. 1982

Good for you

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its been over 15 years since I touched the stuff... still addicted.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's weird... I have a wicked addictive personality but never had an issue with the stuff even though I used to do a ton.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I couldn't care less for heroine. I dropped that easy and it never grabbed me. Coke was my weakness though.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know if I ever tried that I'd be fucked, my parents are both ex users and I even got hooked on codeine after breaking a leg lol.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I could put down cigarettes, coke, etc. But of all things it was weed that was hard for me to stop. 2 panic attacks took care of that though

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's weird, most people just stop one day and never go back.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

havent touched it.. I never will go back. But just seeing it makes my heart race a little... like seeing an old girlfriend.
