A little back story:
Due to my work schedule, it's been a little tough to find time to spend with my son. I changed some things up so I could take him a few times a week and we've had a blast! I even introduced him to classic rock and some tamer metal and he LOVES it. Now he wants me to drive all the time so he can listen to "Rock and Roll!"
It's a minor win, but it puts a smile on my face...
gingerjumps

PrincessRachell
None of my family enjoy the same genres of music I do. Went to a concert with random friends I met on the internet.
SlothMasterJ
My dad raised me on Iron Maiden and Judas Priest but also took me to see BB King, best day ever.
NeoAnonymous
When I was growing up, my mom played great stuff in the car, Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, the Ramones, and I still listen to them
Alavar
All you fucks suck. I love metal and rock and is my all time high. But I have a hidden Playlist for disco cause of my fucking parents.
Gerrery
When I drive the kids I let them listen to their music. I want to hear what they are into.
MelfsAcidArrow
Yes! Introduced my oldest to Heart and the Runaways that way. 6 years old and rocking out in her room now
DualSupernova
That is the reason I enjoy rock today. My stepdad would play it everyday. Keep rocking OP
Buckbeak1486
Just don't torture him by having him listen to Queen.
ezduzithoe
Start him easy on some classics like Seasons in the Abyss, then gradually move him into Six feet Under.
Hamburglar009
If you really want to hit him with something heavy you could go with https://youtu.be/5EkXCcMh5f0
supersharkdinosaur
That's my parental goal. But death metal is gonna be a challenge..
Hillz
My son calls my music "monster music" his fav is Suicide Silence
damageincorp

JohnnieIII
As a 22yo who loves lots of the 60s 70s and 80s rock bands thank god my dad played all that when I was a kid
srsfaceI8C
I wish I had that kind of connection with my dad. He doesn't do music though. Like at all. I don't trust him.
Combatmatt
My dad played polish polka. Yeah, didnt stick
Rogahar
I have my dad and older brother to thank for my love of both classical music and classic rock (such as the Beatles, Metallica, etc)
foolycoolynaota24
My dad introduced me to cannibal corpse, sepultura, and Pantera when I was a kid growing up in mexico. Now I hate all Mexican music lol
JohnnieIII
In your defense Mexican music is pretty bad
thevortexmaster
I've been trying to get my 1 year old daughter into TOOL. It's a tough go
Alavar
Should teach her to learn to fucking swim first.
bigfloppydb
Had him in the water before he leaned to walk! And he's been enrolled in swim classes as soon as their take him.
antarikshYatri
He is gotta point!
TomBrokaw
Look into the lullabies versions. Might be an easier sell
thevortexmaster
Been done
bigfloppydb
I rocked those when he was a baby. Not sure if he liked them, but I would giggle as I would sing the lyrics to myself.
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
What bands are you introducing him to?
bigfloppydb
I have to say, it's more classic rock than metal. Stones, Doors, Credence, even Steely Dan. the classic rock I was raised on. 1/2
bigfloppydb
But I throw in Sabbath, Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, and an assortment of heavier stuff I've grown to love over the years. 2/2
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
I approve of it all except Steely Dan. They stink. Throw in some Neil Diamond in there for the kid's sake.
cnllnn
What? How dare you have an opinion that differs from the popular opinion...
bigfloppydb
Ohh, don't you worry about Neil. That's played regularly in the house. My wife has pretty decent taste but doesn't like metal.
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
You and your wife are awesome.
FuriousArhat
I keep trying that, but my 3 year old just can't get behind NPR
KnightOfRuefulCountenance
Listening to Classical Music with Peter Van De Graaff was my nightly routine throughout high school
shimmyshimmyquarterturn
Keep at it. Some of my fondest memories are long drives with my mom listening to Paul Harvey
KCBeard
And now you know...The rest of the story!
AceVenturasConfidant
No no no it's all about NWA
bigfloppydb
I do have Chronic 2001 on all of my phone's "just in case". That's a guilty pleasure for sure...
RobertEmmet
"Please! That Namby Pamby Radio is soooooo turn of the century, papa..." -your 3 year old probably
Memgur
He'll make a gr8 Republican one day
spuddwell
Haha cause NPR had a slight liberal bias!
uamaukeeaokaainaikapono
Too bad..."Fresh Air" with Renee Montagne is my jam!
KCBeard
Watch it, Teri Gross might shank you for that.
Grant0
Hopefully NPR keeps up reruns of Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk, Whad'ya Know and Wait Wait long enough for them to grow into it
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
I'm a conservative and I love NPR.
KCBeard
Same here. They try their darndest to bring both sides for each story. Marketplace is even less biased, they just like numbers.
YourMomsNewBoyfriend
It's honestly the most "fair and balanced" news out there and they do a good job of getting conservative guests on frequently.
AllWeAreIsDustinNguyen
Liberals keep insisting NPR is neither side only fact-based. As a conservative, what do you think?
FuriousArhat
It's on the liberal side and was way in the bag for Hillary during primaries and the election.
Ezralite
Not that you had to be liberal to be in the bag for Clinton. Far-left voters were more likely to be Sanders supporters during the primary.
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
It is on the liberal side. A few times during the election and a few times since, I have had to change the Station because they were getting
WalterSobchaksWorldOfPain
a little preachy. Overall I think they do a decently fair job of reporting. It's a hell of a lot more balanced than any right winged station
DetectiveGaff
Yeah, I see them as very liberal people who stick to journo ethics like 90% of the time
DickbuttCeraJavertSpanishInquisition
As a moderate leftist, (leftish) I could not agree with you more.
