Why hello Imgur!

After seeing many anime recommendation posts, I'd figure I try my hand at doing one of my own. Summary's, number of episodes/OVA's/movies, my personal rating (completely different from MAL's rating), as well as a few of my thoughts for some are included in this. I did my best to throw some anime's in here that you wouldn't normally expect to see on a recommendation list. I will also include the intros from the FIRST SEASON of each anime because sometimes it takes a little more than just a summary, a rating, and picture to get someone to watch an anime. Please note:Certain intro's will not be present because of copyright on YouTube. Also this is MY list, I don't care if you don't agree with me on some of these. All summary's taken from Kissanime and MAL

Absolute Duo

We're starting off with this one for a few reasons. Number one, I'm trying to throw some shows in here that you wouldn't normally hear about and two because I need 20 and I've pretty much drawn a blank. This is one of those anime's where the story/plot aren't all that great but the action is pretty flipping awesome. Be prepared for fan service.

The story begins with Blaze—a weapon that is the manifestation of a human's soul. Tooru Kokonoe happens to be qualified for this, but for some reason his Blaze is not a weapon, but a shield. Moreover, he enrolled in a school that teaches combat skills, and thanks to the school's Duo partner system, he ends up living with a beautiful silver-haired girl.

Accel World

The year is 2046. Haruyuki Arita is a young boy who finds himself on the lowest social rungs of his school. Ashamed of his miserable life, Haruyuki can only cope by indulging in virtual games. But that all changes when Kuroyukihime, the most popular girl in school, introduces him to a mysterious program called Brain Burst and a virtual reality called the Accel World.

Written by the same guy who made Sword Art Online and IMO I think he did a better job with this than SAO. There are LN's for this so if the anime isn't enough for you I recommend you check out those as well.

Angel Beats

Otonashi awakens only to learn he is dead. A rifle-toting girl named Yuri explains that they are in the afterlife, and Otonashi realizes the only thing he can remember about himself is his name. Yuri tells him that she leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront) and wages war against a girl named Tenshi. Unable to believe Yuri's claims that Tenshi is evil, Otonashi attempts to speak with her, but the encounter doesn't go as he intended.

13 Episodes + 1 OVA

Personal Rating 7.8/10

Many will tell you that you will be crying like a baby at the end... This is true, but you will also be spending your fair share of time rolling on the floor laughing before that. Because it's only 13 episodes the anime does have its faults like a rushed plot with some holes and some characters never got their time to shine, but overall, its definitely worth a watch.

Black Lagoon

Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he's sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc. But his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries hired to retrieve the disc. Rock (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc Revy as she thinks he's worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc that was stolen has a terrible secret that's unknown to Rock, which causes massive confusion and chaos for both him and his kidnappers.

A lot of people will tell you this is one of the best anime's of all time. Is it the best? No, it definitely has it's flaws but overall it's worth the watch. It also has one of the best soundtracks.

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

Tadakuni, Hidenori, and Yoshitake are students at the all-boys academy, Sanada North High School. This is a tale about just that—their daily lives as students. Winning the basketball tournament? Finding true love? You won't find any of that here. Whether it's sparking random arguments while hanging out with friends, meeting that one weird co-worker at a part-time job, or even letting imaginations run wild on a windy afternoon, we've all experienced the show's ordinary but true-to-life themes at one point or another.

12 Episode + 6 (and a .5 for some reason) OVA

Literally translating to "Daily Lives of High School Boys" this is anime is exactly like Nichijou (Scroll down for that one) but with boys. There is no plot to this one, it's all just shits and giggles.

Even though this anime is not finished yet I will give it a 9.8/10

If you're thinking about getting into the Fate series but don't want to download the VN's START HERE. Insanely good animation and very well done art style. This is one of the best anime's airing right now and I HIGHLY recommend that you watch it.

As a result, they have elected to bring the hated magus killer, Kiritsugu Emiya, into their ranks, despite his methods and reputation as a skilled mercenary and a hitman who employs whatever he can use to accomplish his goals. Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 Edition

So it's actually kind of hard to find a good gif for the 2003 version.

The rules of alchemy state that to gain something, one must lose something of equal value. Alchemy is the process of taking apart and reconstructing an object into a different entity, with the rules of alchemy to govern this procedure. However, there exists an object that can bring any alchemist above these rules, the object known as the Philosopher's Stone. The young Edward Elric is a particularly talented alchemist who through an accident years back lost his younger brother Alphonse and one of his legs. Sacrificing one of his arms as well, he used alchemy to bind his brother's soul to a suit of armor. This lead to the beginning of their journey to restore their bodies, in search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

51 Episode + 1 Movie <---- THE MOVIE IS THE ENDING

Personal Rating 8/10

Everyone recommends Brotherhood so I figured I'd stir the pot a little and recommend the 2003 version (and IMO I think this version is better). This one follows the manga up until about episode 12 (I think) and after that it goes off on it's own route because at the time, the manga wasn't finished. Personally I prefer this story over the manga's/brother hood.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

In the not so distant future, mankind has advanced to a state where complete body transplants from flesh to machine is possible. This allows for great increases in both physical and cybernetic prowess and blurring the lines between the two worlds. However, criminals can also make full use of such technology, leading to new and sometimes, very dangerous crimes. In response to such innovative new methods, the Japanese Government has established Section 9, an independently operating police unit which deals with such highly sensitive crimes. Led by Daisuke Aramaki and Motoko Kusanagi, Section 9 deals with such crimes over the entire social spectrum, usually with success. However, when faced with a new A level hacker nicknamed “The Laughing Man”, the team is thrown into a dangerous cat and mouse game, following the hacker’s trail as it leaves its mark on Japan.

Girls und Panzer

You may have heard of kung fu, but the girls at Oarai High School practice gun-fu - really, really BIG 75mm gun-fu, in fact. It's called Sensha-do, and it's the martial art of operating armored tanks! They take it seriously too, and since winning the national Sensha-do championship is such a huge deal at Oarai, they sometimes go to extreme ends in order to get the best students from Panzer class to sign up. Which is how Miho Nishizumi, who HATES operating tanks, gets drafted to join doomsday-driven driver Mako, even-triggered gunner Hana, highly receptive radio operator Saori and combustible tank-fangirl and loader Yukari as the incomparable Anko Team. They may not be on the half-track to fame and fortune, and maybe a few of them would rather shop for tank tops than become tops in tanks, but once their focus is locked and loaded, they're absolutely driven.

This anime is exactly what it sounds like, girls and tanks. When they're not having battles it's a tad boring but the battles themselves keep you interested and on the edge of your seat.

Nichijou

While the title suggests a story of simple, everyday school life, the contents are more the opposite. The setting is a strange school where you may see the principal wrestle a deer or a robot's arm hide a rollcake. However there are still normal stories, like making a card castle or taking a test you didn't study for.

As much as I'd like to say "turn your brain off and enjoy" I can't. It's a bit difficult to follow but if you are able to keep up and understand what's going on in the story, it's not half bad. Be prepared for some serious fan service.

If I lost your trust with the last 3 I'm terribly sorry and I'm about to make it up to you

My review from Kissanime: My oh my where to start with this one. First off let me just say that this was some of the best character development I have ever seen. The two change their attitudes and evolve the farther you get into the story where it eventually goes from "I'm only with you because I have to be with you." to "I'm with you because I want to be with you." You could also feel the characters (that's the best I can describe it), you will laugh with them and you will cry with them. The whole plot/story was amazing as well. It's well thought out with a few twists to keep you interested (and believe me you'll stay interested the first two episodes). This was a very fun anime to watch and the final episode "Wolf and Endless Tears" stays very true to its name as you will suddenly notice that Niagara falls has made its way to your face once its over. I can say with honesty and boldness that this is the best anime I have ever seen and it has taken the #1 spot on my list. And with that I can confidently give this anime a 10... out of 10.

Having watched dozens and dozens of anime I feel objectively sound in saying that Cowboy Bebop's music, plot, set pieces, characters and (1)

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

character development, individual story-lines, action sequences, art, and did I mention the music, all combine to form the best anime. (2)

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I've seen plenty of GREAT anime, like GitS, but Bebop has everything. To be fair, it's a matter of degrees of awesome, and others are close.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Weirdly enough, I stopped watching after ep 5. I didn't think it was bad, I just got bored. Isn't the plot very episodic?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess, but once they get Faye and Edward and Ein on board, it takes off. the last few episodes are really good, too.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is generally, yes, but it also contains a lot of over-arcing themes, concepts, and characters beyond that.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bebop requires a lot of extra watching to catch everything that makes it great. This is not to say it doesn't stand on it's own as an 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/2 amazing series, but it's peppered with movie and tv refferences, both direct and as direction/photography homages.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Very true. I didn't catch everything- or appreciate some of the depth- even the second time through, but I think that just adds to greatness

It's full of pure hilarity. If you're looking for a good time, I recommend it completely. It has just about everything, except a dub. :/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't really like dubbed animes anyway, takes a lot away from the originality. And Hungarian dubs are terrible, anyway.

I like being able to listen to a dub in the background without having to constantly read subtitles on screen or learn a new language (1/?)

Cowboy Bebop has the best soundtrack of any anime ever, and if you disagree youre fucking wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 14

Aria the Animation. Literally the most chill soundtrack ever.

A close second, but The Pillows pale in comparison to Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dunno. I prefer Samurai Champloo's soundtrack myself, but I have a Nujabes bias.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Champloo was basically Bebop's spiritual successor, makes sense the soundtrack's just as good/better

I have a couple of friends that are big fans of JoJo's. Is that as good as they keep insisting?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There's eight "parts" and they're really hit or miss. The TV anime is super budget and poorly animated when it has no reason to be. (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Great fight scenes, characters, art, tons of important deaths (MAIN CHARACTERS die)...The guy who think it's "not that great" is nuts.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The old OVA from 2000 is pretty good, and for the "parts" in the manga I'd recommend 1, 2, 3, and 6. They can be read as stand-alones also.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No, the old OVAs are not good. Why would you even recommend them over the TV anime?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My list of "Anime recommended by Imgur" already has 250 entries. OP why you would you do this.

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

Half of these are bad anyway. Just watch Sword of the Stranger. It's under 2 hours long and it's fucking amazing, just watch it dude.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's already on my list, I'm sure I'll get to it eventually ;)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But seriously, nearly nothing is bad about it. Quit not watching it and start, ya know, watching it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There anyway you could share said list?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I might make an Imgur post or something, I've received quite a bit of interest! I'll add another comment to this if and when I've done so :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks brotaco

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If we're being honest, most of them are terrible. Legitimately terrible. I've given 3-episode rule for several season now of most series.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The vast majority of those are garbage. The problem is the people who watch tens of anime have lost any discerning ability for quality.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

3 Do watch Mushishi and Baccano (the latter in english dub). The Fate/ series is well animated, but you should be into magic and that stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Might I ask which in particular are not worth watching? I need help to make sure I don't become (any more of) a terrible terrible weeaboo.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's been so many and honestly the anime you *should* watch is a more exclusive set. But I'll try. Some of these are plain bad, others

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GENERALLY, you know what to expect. A cast of little girls and a high school setting both usually mean poor quality. There are only a few

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that subvert anime tropes. Oh and comedy anime are more often than not pretty poor, low brow humor.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2arent suited to a mature audience. Neon Genesis Evangelion is dull, stick to the movies if anything. Hellsing is just morbid, no good plot.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i don't like cutesy anime girls, over the top action, or school dramas. what can you do for me, OP?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jin-Roh, Tatami Galaxy, anything by Satoshi Kon, and that's all that's coming to mind right now.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Baccano! has always been one of my favorites. http://myanimelist.net/anime/2251/Baccano!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I second the Steins;gate recommendation. It starts out slow, but when it picks up... well, it blew me away, and I watch a fuckton of anime.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Monster is a great anime for people who don't like "stereotypical" anime. Rather long, but give the first two or three episodes a shot.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Space Dandy: Episodic, Johnny Bravo IN SPAAAACE, Hooters IN SPAAAACE, funk music, and a sapient vacuum cleaner. Same creator as Cowboy Bebop

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ergo Proxy, I would also recommend "Eden of the east" but beware, the ending is unsatisfying

Serial Experiments Lain, maybe? I found it to be super fucking slow though, so YMMV. I wouldn't do Eden of the East, personally.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

well it may be a better question to ask what you want, if you don't like really slow shows, Eden is definitely not your kettle

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the part that irked me the most was the bait and switch, honestly. the first 2 episodes are nothing like the rest.

Steins;gate(recomended a million times) or PSYCHO-PASS, both verry good and sorta fit those requirements. Also the 2 the other guy suguested

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

steinsgate about a mad scientist and his 'friends' building a time machine. 1st 1/2 very slow u may not like, gets very emotional in 2nd 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

PSYCHO-PASS about some cops in a distopian future. About all that can be said with this character limit.

2003 or Brotherhood. Well Both are spectacular. 2003 has a fun twist, but brotherhood is better IMO.

11 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 7

Your opinion is shiiiiit

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 30

Damn, imgur, it's a reference joke.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I prefer the manga which means I prefer Brotherhood. After seeing Father, it's hard to like Dante at all. She's just a terrible villain.

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

the first half or so of 2003 is better because it's the same story but brotherhood rushes past most of the stuff the 2003 version covered

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

ie, you spend more than one episode with Nina, so you expect her to stick around a bit longer and it's more shocking what happens to her

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i feel like the 2003 is more story based while brotherhood is more action based.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FMA 2003 was the only anime that have the same high quality of animation in the 51 episodes, Brotherhood needed to equal or surpass that

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

watched fma first, i'm just starting brotherhood tomorrow. both are good though :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which do I watch first?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They aren't an ordered thing, but popular opinion is Brotherhood is better, so watch the 2003 edition first so you can properly enjoy both.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Watch the original first, than brotherhood so you can get the full enjoyment out of it.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

either, the movie is the reason to watch 2003. Brotherhood has more action.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Brotherhood is far superior.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

While brotherhood is better, definitely watch the 2003 version first cause it covers some of the early backstory better

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2003 had better production values and soundtrack, but brotherhood story is better, yes.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Better production values? 2003? What?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Animation quality and VO are generally better. I also think the directing was better to show the characters emotions but that's subjective

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I disagree, in every aspect. Animation is much smoother, more detailed and more fluid in brotherhood. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In 2003 a lot of scenes feel lifeless cause lack of body language and things happening in the background. Way too many still scenes. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He might be referring to direction, and i'm inclined to agree in some ways. 2003 was definitely much better at the quieter moments, 1/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whereas Brotherhood tended to be louder and more bombastic by comparison. 2/2

Not as hate, but I will say that Tokyo Ghoul was heavily censored in the first season and the second didn't follow the manga. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would say that reading Tokyo Ghoul would be better than watching it, but that's my opinion. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went to an anime convention and experienced this. It was fun to see people cosplay but talking to any of them wasn't what I expected

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Brotherhood?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Comments stating OP's recommendation of the original Fullmetal Alchemist > Brotherhood (an FMA remake, widely considered better) is wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It really goes either ways. And thus best to never bring it up unless you're purposefully looking for a fight.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some of us can talk about it maturely without needing to fight! =P But yeah saying "your opinion is wrong" is definitely asking for it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's when I snapped and posted my comment. FMA Brotherhood for life!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Personally I preferred the original for the motif that true immortality is unattainable, but I can understand other's opinions on it as well

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just liked the ending in Brotherhood more, and I fucking LOVE Greed/Ling. But I totally get why other people prefer the original. :3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, technically it's not a remake since it follows the original plot

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just call it a remake cause it's a remake of the original anime series, so there's my logic. :3

My cousin made a club in college called "Anime club for people who like anime, but don't like people who like anime". It was nice.

11 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

How do I join?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, most anime fans hate anime fans. I can't help thinking that would be a bunch of people in a circle glaring at each other

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did they all just sit in a circle glowering at each other a muttering insults under their breath? My kinda club.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

That sounds like . . . pretty much every social gathering of late-teens.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Naw. All my get togethers during my late-teens were filled with direct insults and friendly games of grab ass. Good times.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And don't you dare mention that you are looking for English dub. They'll start a lynch mob for not enjoying it spoken in Japanese with subs.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

imo Depends on the anime. Some English dub is shit, but others are fantastic and you can pay more attention to the show rather than reading!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tbh of all the varied series I've watched, I've only ever disliked one English dub. And it was just an annoyance rather than a deal breaker.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*To clarify, because they had the perfect cast within the series, I just felt they paired the wrong voice actors with the wrong characters.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*smiles and nods politely while secretly tying a noose and rounding up 'The Boys'.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks for that i don't speak japanese and have had problems with subs so i prefer official english dub as i KNOW what i heard is what right

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A lot of stuff can be lost in translation or changes all together. Plus a lot of times, the english voice actors just arnt that good.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

What difference does it make, it's my preference.. They get an elitist attitude and start yelling "If you dont like it in Jap, dont watch!"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Im just listing rational reasons why the original could be better. You cant look at my points and say they arnt true.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Has nothing to do with my point.. at all, whether your points are 100% true or not.. do you get what I'm even talking about?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the English companies cant afford decent voice actors most of the time.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dont think my statement deserves a down vote. Its inevitable with a translation of any language that some things will be off.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and if you listened to both dub and original, who will hear a big difference in the quality of voice acting.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yehhh.. Absolutely nothing wrong with watching it, I watch a lot myself, but some people are just a little bit too into the stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 7

It's so bad that I literally can't talk about anime to my friends or even family. I just don't want people to think I'm weird.

11 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Fuck what people think. You arent weird and the only person thinking that is you.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just don't bring it up if no one present watches it too, I don't know many people IRL who do so I keep those convos to /r/anime.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Youre not weird. =)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's the word that people use when they're so obsessed with anime they want to be Japanese? (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I think it'd okinari, because they think it means obsessed, but it means something along the lines of so obsessed they're mentally affected.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

(2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've never heard someone call themselves Okinari, I'm glad I haven't met that much of a weeb

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Otaku?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

YES! This is the word.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Lol at people who call themselves "otaku" and are proud of it. Might as well say you're a NEET or neckbeard. Just as bad.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Weeaboo. They be enterin' Japan like ''Where teh subtitles at?''

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I meant otaku, but I guess Weeaboo is also efficient...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh man that made me chortle!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Filthy Frank reference? I love you.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I have a problem with the fact you linked fma and not fma: brotherhood..... that is simply wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 217 Dislikes 44

I love both of them, but '03 is definitely my favorite of the two.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

They're both good imo. I feel like FMA's plotline is more refined but FMA:Brotherhood had a much better ending

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a problem with you saying an opinion is wrong. I prefer Brotherhood, but I can not be an asshole about it. 03 is still really good.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

FMA is better for younger people I think. Brotherhood is a lot more in depth, and more mature version of the same show.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

I tried so hard to watch the '03 version after reading the manga, I got through it, but the story felt too dry comparatively.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it's fantastic for the story they crafted but it forced too many unnecessary cheap shots in my opinion. So many wasted plot devices.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are different, I got more into brotherhood's plot but I enjoyed them both very much

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Original is worth watching just so you realize how much BETTER Brotherhood is. They are both good, but Brotherhood nails it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

While we're arguing about this, how the frick do you upload a gifset to imgur? Am I retarded or.......

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have a problem with the lack of "the Devin is a part timer' given the kinds of titles he is throwing around. =/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FMA 2003 was the only anime that have the same high quality of animation in the 51 episodes, Brotherhood needed to equal or surpass that

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The dialogue in the first was a tad bit more natural but there's no excusing the botched storyline

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Some people get sentimental about 03 (guilty). In all fairness, OP did point out that brotherhood is featured on every other list out there.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

In a few regards, FMA is better; far more time to grow attached to Maes Hughes, for example. Or foreshadowing Barry the Chopper.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think the thing with 03 is, while the plot is still important, it takes a back seat to the characters. It is at heart a human drama.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

what bothers me is that OP recommends Fate Stay Night: UBW and Fate/Zero and says you should watch in reverse order, nononono

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if anything watch the original Fate Stay Night > Fate/Zero > Fate Stay Night: UBW and that other fate/stay night:heavens feel whenever

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well chronologically its Zero then Stay Night. I watched them in that order and really enjoyed it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

definitely but fate stay night is super old so while good, ppl may not enjoy it as much after watching the others

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that logic doesn't apply to things like Star Wars series. Watching the prequals spoils the actual originals.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched FMA prior to Brotherhood and loved Brotherhood so much more.

11 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I could not finish FMA, I thought it was terrible. Then my buddy said "No, watch brotherhood instead" and I was blown away.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Like any normal person. Brotherhood is worlds better than the first one. OP is terrible at rating animes.(Ive seen most of the ones listed)

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I felt more immersed in BH; the characters were so much more developed.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They were, and the series made more sense in general. Didn't need an extra movie to "clarify" and "end" the series. Plus happier ending.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't agree more about the ending. I loved the Homunculi and Scar a hell of a lot more. I'm tempted to rewatch now, lol.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just because Brotherhood follows the manga, doesn't mean it's better.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 9

That may be true, but that's one gigantic vagina you have growing on your forehead.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

No it doesnt. That fact that's it's better makes it better.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

That, my friend, is a matter of opinion, which is subjective.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I cringed reading it honestly. It's great that they enjoyed it, but for god's sake Brotherhood is what FMA is; it follows the manga.

11 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 15

Why does following the manga make Brotherhood "more" of FMA than FMA? It's like Spider Man vs The Amazing Spider Man.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you're right. I definitely phrased this a bit weirdly. I meant it was more what the author intended it to be, not that that 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gives it superiority. I just think that makes it feel more true to its intended tone etc. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While Brotherhood is better (other than the rushed first 10 episodes), following the manga isn't necessarily a merit in and of itself.

11 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

certainly be good. I've heard that Elemental Gelade, for example, is better in the anime, which went in a different direction. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah you're right. What I meant by it was that it was the author's original aim. But yeah, something that goes in its own direction can 1/2.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I feel as though the first setting of the plot was rushed because it was assumed the audience had already watched the first. (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wager they didn't want their audience to feel as though they're watching the same thing twice. (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think so too, just a shame first-timers won't get QUITE the same buildup to you-know-who's death.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol @ the multiple "feel as though" It's as though my vocabulary can't language good.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought the original was okay... Brotherhood had better character development and story progression. I HATED Conqueror of Shambala.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thought Conqueror of Shamballa was ten times better than Sacred Star of Milos. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

can't think of many other anime movies which epitomise 'clusterfuck' to that extent off the top of my head. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never even watched it because I watched Shambala first and I was like fuck the movies.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imagine Shamballa except with worse animation (debatably) and a story equivalent to a shonen filler episode... don't bother watching it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well good thing I didn't plan on it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some people prefer 03 over Brotherhood.

11 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 13

I liked both, I think I liked the majority of brotherhood better, but I think the other one wrapped up the story a lot better

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Not true. 2003 was by Sho Aikawa & was very different from the manga. FMA:B was by Hiroshi Onogi & adapted Hiromu Arakawa's manga perfectly.

I cannot stand people like you who somehow think an opinion on something like this is not correct, it's an opinion for a reason

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

I'm not saying because it's my opinion I'm right. I'm saying brotherhood is aimed towards older people, fma is goofy and more fun.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

You're a complete idiot... FMAB was the one that forced comedy into scenes where it didn't fit, and anime visual comedy like - 1/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

exaggerated expressions, sweatdrops and chibi drawings were FAR, FAR, FAR more prevalent in Brotherhood, not saying that 2003 is better 2/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fma is good and more fun? Brotherhood must have to be some fucked up, dark shit to make fma merely 'goofy' and 'fun' by contrast.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought so. They're both dark, but in my opinion fma was fun compared to Brotherhood. That's just me.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

(2/2) Whereas there isn't as noticeable a shift in tone in the 03 version.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Around the time that they discover the truth about the philosophers stone, the over all tone of brotherhood gets much more serious.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh I see. Maybe for me the whole thing felt fairly serious with light-hearted moments, so I never thought about it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but if I were to describe one version as 'the goofier one' it'd DEFINITELY be brotherhood. 3/3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not even slightly accurate. Brotherhood has plenty of humor, and 03 lays way heavy on the drama and matters of the heart.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They both have humor, that's true. But you can't in any way deny that fma:brotherhood was not severly darker and more gory.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You might want to watch both again. Brotherhood does have more gore, but 03 was the darker and more depressing of the two.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am denying that it's darker. More gory, *maybe*.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Gorier? Yes. Darker? Nope. In some ways, FMA is harsher; like giving viewers more time to grow attached to Maes Hughes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Where do people generally watch these?

11 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 7

I watch animes at soul-anime.tv . I think there are only subtitles (no dubs)

Crunchyroll has good quality legal streaming. But they have a limited library. And free users need to wait an extra week during broadcast.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

free sites have fan-made subtitles are in most cases incorrect, sometimes even out of context. Thus I suggest paying for crunchyroll

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Crunchyroll has worse subs than fansubbers. They want to get anime out as soon as possible, so they hastily sub and often make mistakes.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I recommend animehaven.org. Their selection is somewhat limited, (they're fairly new), but it's almost all at least 720p, if not 1080p.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Animeshow.tv is where i watch mine. Most of the animes are there in HD or at least 720.
