Every once and a while this image or something like it pops up on the front page; leading many to believe that this is actually how military helmets get their camo. Not only is this expensive its plain wrong.

This is an American MICH helmet circa sometime around 2000. It's plain tan with no complex pattern. All MICH helmets for the US military are produced this way with either green or tan finishes. However troops won't be sent into combat wearing this.

This is a MICH helmet with a ACUPAT helmet cover. Using helmet covers allows for the soldier to change his camo without having to get a new helmet.

Here are some soldiers using the same helmet with US woodland camo

Here's a Russian 6B47 helmet with and without its EMR flora camo cover.

Polish tax

Now you can stop being wrong.

The cloth cover isn't just cheaper, it is also has small holes so that you can apply foliage from your surroundings for further concealment

The fact that the first gif is even a real thing...amazes me

Someone finally got it right!!

Thanks @OP. I saw the first post and started scrolling to call BS. I was about to post this exact argument.

You said "once and a while" so I'm gonna dismiss everything you said because that's how being petty works.

Polish tax?

Putting that cloth on where you're still able to use your Rhino mount without stretching the fabric is a bitch and a half.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dont care. its still cool.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Another thing; those composite materials don't like direct sunlight (they go bad). That's where the cloth comes in.

Polan tax only good tax if Polan can into space. Can Polan into space OP?

In the Canadian army, you get issued a Woodland CADPAT cover and a winter white cover. Never seen a dipped helmet anywhere.

That swizzle flick at the end.

Now that I know this... My whole world has changed!

THANK YOU!!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok, but what is the first gif? I'm curious

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Does anyone actually believe that the first gif is how this usually works? I mean, I guess it would explain the US defence budget

Yup

Canadian forces, same thing. We get green camo, tan camo, and white covers for the helmet.

When we're bfa's invented, that's an old photo

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All I saw was a helmet disappearing and a bunch of empty photos... Nothing special to see @OP

Try reloading the page maybe it didn't load properly that or your rehashing an old joke

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How is this joke not played out yet?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Lame people keep up voting them cause people who desire up votes to post old jokes

Faces?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No races all the races....

Oh my gosh, thank you!

The finnish camo cover is just flipped around to reveal the winter camo beneath.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never been in the military but I own a helmet with the cloth thingy it was a present from my friends dad :)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The is soldiers in the woodland bdus Ade wear pasgt helmets not mich ones

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dumbass dropped the helmet in the water.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The covers we used was a bitch getting back on again. (Norwegian AF)

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I found that soaking the cover in hot water makes it easier to anchor one side and stretch the rest across.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not just Norwegian this guy, but Norwegian as fuck.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Actually #3 is an ACH while #4 is the old Kevlar *adjusts BCGs*

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Those cloth covers were fucking awful to put on if you took them off.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yup. The dudes in #4 are wearing the old PASGT helmet.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that you Trott?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sorry, no

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll have you know, I still have my BCGs. They're indestructible.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Depends. I know some guys in my unit had helmets with Multicam/OCP water transfer on them. Also #3 is actually called UCP not ACUPAT

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Surprised nobody got upset about that, because that permanently fucks up the helmets.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're interchangeable

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So what is that original camo helmet for?

9 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

I believe it is for costumes and fancy dress

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

airsoft probably

This!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Motorcycle brain bucket.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's got no structure inside so it would be useless for that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are tards that do that. I've seen plenty of skull-cap helmets that provide NO protection at all, grandpas with harleys wear them alot

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why it's called a brain bucket and not a helmet.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cloth covers are not only cheaper and more versatile, but are also better for camouflage, as they are not a smooth, reflective surface.

9 years ago | Likes 384 Dislikes 0

Flat Camo paint... Mesh laundry bag... spray.. move... repeat...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

can also be a pain in the dick to get on some days.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the Swedish Armed Forces, the helmet has to sides, one forest and one snow. Somebody actually thought if thru when they made it.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You can also get it dirty for better camouflage. Like, if you want to blend in with something other than a shitty couch.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Gravel pit

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

blends in like the Predator.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Exactly, you got it.

Sure, now that I'm out they're using the multicam. Buncha bastards.
