This is more a problem for poor people

Just remember you're only a flight of stairs / faulty brake line away from an inheritance.

"JK, it's already been rented out for 1200 a month"

Those tiny houses are really getting small.
BadMrFrosty
I really feel like this is a coastal problem. Its not that hard to afford a decent house in the midwest, anyway.
RumbleNtheJungle
Maybe rural Midwest. I feel like midwestern cities can still be difficult to afford a house.
MyPatronusIsVernonDursley
Anywhere far enough from California has this perk.

Renting is more expensive than owning in the Midwest because reasons.
Because if you're paying X dollars on a mortgage, you can't turn a profit unless you're charging X+...
TheMrGUnit
It's a rural vs urban problem. If you "need" to live in or immediately next to your major city, you're gonna pay out the nose.
I live in a city...I mean, I realize people from the coast think the midwest is all cornfields, but it turns out there are cities here, too.
What?! WHERE?! [frantically scours Google Maps] Oh.... Would you look at that.... Dess Moyneys, Iowa...
Its "Dee Monay"
SuperTacticalSandwich
Yep. Coastal problem. Even moving a few hundred miles inland and you can find affordable housing. Sadly, I'm coastal.
RichardManeuver
Try moving a few hundred miles inland?
I would love to but unfortunately that's not an option. I'd rather be broke and be with family than live well but alone.
Have you ever tried?
Fuzzynubz
Yeah, but you'd have to live in the Midwest
TOTOAFRICA
I like Minnesota quite a bit to be honest.
Spfeel
That's fair, but I mean...I'd take blizzards over smog and 2000 dollar a month studio apartments every time.
Move to Maine. You can have both! And be over taxed as an added benefit.
MoAw
Mainer here. Can confirm. 1050 for a studio in Portland. But the people are nice.
What a bargain!
I know, right? *Sobs in lobster*
