That would be Scots, not Gaelic. LOL But there's a Scots version of this coming out in the future....

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone got one for old English?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No but the publisher of this one has an Irish one, and is working on others for Welsh, Scots, Latin, and Ogham so far...

#1 tip for tattooing a word or phrase. If you had to look it up, don't do it. Stick to languages you speak fluently.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Or at least the Tatto Artist speaks and spells fluently

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Truth. But I have not yet met any Gaelic-speaking tattoo artists. (There are definitely Irish-speaking ones out there though.)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Head for Glasgow, there's a fair few there

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually agree with this. The best way to get a Gaelic tattoo is to start by studying the language.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Bonus: Duolingo and Mango now offer free gateway drugs, I mean Scottish Gaelic courses!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Tapadh leat

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

'Se do bheatha! :-)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know roughly three phrases in Gaelic, thanks old man, raised.me well clearly haha.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well now you have to tell us what they are :-)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would like to read more

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Powell's, Amazon etc. can help you with that! Or... submit a purchase suggestion to your local public library! For real, they might buy it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

. Cool post. saw this awhile back while staying in a air BNB, guess I'll share it also.

6 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 0

Are those (Russian criminals) tattoos or Russian (criminal tattoos)?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe it was a collection of tattoos found on different inmates in Russian prisons.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have the first and second volume, lots of depictions of sexual violence and also some of penis tattoos. Very hardcore all around

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

My husband got the first volume for Christmas a few years back and he loves it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow... Volume 1...

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have all three and theyre fantastic! Haunting stories of their symbolism.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favourite Gaelic phrase: Fook ya!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That one's Hiberno English, not Irish or Gaelic! A Scottish Gaelic one would be Thalla 's cac!/Away and shit yerself! [Note: Do not tattoo]

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey, I follow you on Facebook! Yay Nova Scotia!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Taing mhòr! Suas le Alba Nuadh!! (Love your username!)

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sin thu fhèin! ???

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op where do i get this book?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Amazonia!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s nice

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mòran taing! / Many thanks!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does this one show you how to pronounce the words? Because my one full of swears is useless.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The tattoo handbook does not yet—a shortcoming of putting this info in a book unfortunately—but I'm working on pronunciation videos!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Each glossary entry in my book has a number, and my plan is to key the videos to the glossary entries.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the meantime, here is a workaround for the sweary book: look up each word at learngaelic.scot/dictionary. Many have a soundfile!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Her name's an anagram of "My New Malice", "Wily Men Came", "We Manly Mice"

6 years ago | Likes 326 Dislikes 1

Claim my ween

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My name is an anagram for "a degrading ape". Not a bad summery.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rather wasplike of you, skipweasel.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My meal wince

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How did you figure this out? Anagram fetish?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We are Mice, Manly Mice.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or “mail new cyme” (cyme is a type of flower that sprouts little bunches of flowers out of the main one.)

My stupid ass thought, for a brief moment, "What kind of name is Dremily?"

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Proud of you!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

?? It used to be "emilymcfujita" due to my full last name being hyphenated. My students used to call me Prof McFuji. ?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I always wonder how one sees this

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I can do them on paper, but no fast enough for usersub, so I cheat.https://wordsmith.org/anagram/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First you have to have free time, then there are two steps and the third one is profit.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We Manly Mice. The Heavymetal cover band of Modest Mouse.

6 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

Are you man or mouse? Squeak up!

Tapadh leibh! ?

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Slainte ?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cá bhfuil na málaí droma?!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is irish

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It is indeed. I actually tried to translate Irish Gaelic to Scottish Gaelic and got the exact same spelling back. I know we have similar

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah Google Translate is highly unreliable... never use it for a tattoo translation anyway! "Tha seo àlainn!" would be the ScG version!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Words and phrases but was surprised that this came back as identical?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is surprising. I learned irish in school don’t know anything about Scottish

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe they share a common route language from tribes like the Scots coming from Ireland then mixing with picts Celts and britons

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a tattoo of my Scottish family crest on my back. Should I refinance my house?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, you should wait until I release Gaelic translations of all the clan crest mottos, and then add that to your back piece! :-)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My clan motto is in Latin though

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's cool, the project is to translate all the Latin, English & Scots mottoes to Scottish Gaelic equivalents!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well is mackenzie in your book?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The name MacKenzie is "MacChoinnich" in Gaelic (son of Kenneth).

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not in the book pictured above, but I'm working on either a sequel or an app that will have the Gaelic versions of clan names & mottos.
