True story bro

Apr 17, 2019 12:39 AM

Saw a neurosurgeon for degenerative discs. Wife asked what caused it he looked right at me and asked “are you prior service?” Yes. “That.”

I posted this because my hearing got worse and worse. Then somehow got better for my final hearing test. I did get 20% though.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Government won't pay for your service related health problems, but there's always plenty of $ for new weapons & parades.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 7

This is how they treat the troops, wait until this is how us citizens are treated

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

If we can't afford to take care of them we can't afford to send them.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hearing issues. Knees, hips, ankles, back, and mental issues. But I just worked in a warehouse, not the military....

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I really appreciate my military grade boots that cost $200 and last a week.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I went Navy to Air Force. Their boots lasted a lot longer...probably because they never did any work

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Join they said,,,you’ll be taken care of they said.pfffft

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Man I wish stuff like this was more apparent in the movies that just make the US army look awesome, some one should tell the kids what's up

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Recruiters don't lie, they just embellish.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Isn’t this like the student loan thing? “ You knew what you were signing up for.”

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Yep, you're not the only one.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My sister has 70% disability due to her knee issues from serving during the 90s. They aren't always assholes.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I got 30% for a knee that keeps. needing. surgery. I'd much rather have my knee work that the $300,000 I'll get from them if I live to 80.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

if your knee is worse, apply for an increase and ask for a new VA exam. or get a private one where they measure range of motion

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats what gets to me, people think you just dont want to work anymore. I would gladly do it again if I could have my 18 year old body (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Back. Would honestly take steroids this time around though. Being bigger would have helped. (2/2)

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All you have to do is go to the doc a couple times while in service and you’re good. Even complaining at your exit C&P works.

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

I process the claims for VBA and this really all it takes, 1 event in service, symptoms/dx and a plausible nexus to service to get an exam

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its typically the medical opinion from the doctor that bones the Vet

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

FYI I used to perform comp and pension exams for the VA.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

You signed up

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Spicy comment. There is small print in the contract...

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to mention the neck problems from the helmets or the hearing issues from... everything.

7 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 1

Why don’t most troops wear ear pros on deployments.. if it’s uncomfortable buy a pair of peltors. Better than losing hearing...

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You can get customs, molded from your ear. You won't notice them, and they have different filters or are active. Worth the 100 bucks

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Guns and explosions don't damage ears. Days on your feet, carrying weight, don't hurt your bones, joints, or muscles. Trauma doesn't hurt.-

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

-This is like saying an electrician getting shocked on the job doesn't have a work related injury.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You need to contact a veterans advocacy group like American Legion. They'll cut through a lot of the VA's bullshit.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

In all honesty it's not our B.S. it's congress', we just have to follow the law that is presented to us.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Rank and file employees aren't to blame. I've met a lot of great ones. But advocacy groups get shit done. Member of AL and PVA.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Such a menacing name for such a helpful bunch of folks.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hahahahahahahahahaha

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The VA isn't there to help you, their there to save the government money

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, you dont have to enlist. If you want to fight for money, you reap what you sow..

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So why do people continue to serve?

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Young and dumb...

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

bad education is there for a reason, also sosialism is BAD (for recruiting)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get basic pay for the rest of my life now that I retired.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

propaganda in maninstream mediea, I think. I mean, have you seen American recruitment ads?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Predatory recruiters go to highschools and market to underprivileged kids all of the pros and none of the cons.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But have you or a loved one been diagnosed with mesothelioma? If so you may be entitled to financial compensation.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the comments above mine make me really happy I never served. I still lost my knees and my hearing, but it was to concerts and skiing.

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 10

Ski better lol. That's what I get told. Mountain friends have no sympathy. Even less on pow days.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why were you on your knees so much?

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Serving.

I just want to know why I was told I had no coverage and then years later told I had coverage but it was ending but now it has not

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

coverage for what...do you have something wrong that you think is from your service? and did you file for disability benefits?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I served in an area where I was told I would have 5 years post service coverage and was told at a VA that was false but it was true theysay

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun Fact: "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen is a song about a mistreated/forgotten veteran. Advertisements use it for American pride.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Oh wow, I didn't know that at all. I picture Canadian Bacon everytime I hear that song.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup, most people focus too much on the chorus to notice lyrics like "Went down to see my V.A. man He said "son, don't you understand'"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jesus dude, listen to the lyrics

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ran 5miles a day on sand.....

7 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 2

We always ran in the sand. Even the track at the main part of the base was sand.

7 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

What base?

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

That's how Russell Westbrook became a power dunker

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stand 8 hours a day on concrete. I dont get "thanks" whatsoever. Fuckin people even fake being one of you for props... wow. Hard job.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 83

Your user name betrays your incoherent ramblings. Just sit little man and shut up.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Lmao is your argument really people faking to be something means actually being it is easy? You lose your logic in the great war of walmart?

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

While I don't like the general tone of your post, yes, standing for 8 hours a day on stone or concrete is fucking terrible for you. And the

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Really? Does it count if you're walking? I'm 33, not fit and walk on concrete for 6 hours during my second job. Am I gonna have problems?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Walking is way better than standing.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Shock absorbing mats and shoes do nothing for standing. They only work for movement.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. I spend a lot of work hours standing or limited movement on cement. My feet/knees feel crushed by the end of it.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can't tell if Sarcasm?

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Nah some people are just bitter my dude.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Worse than that is cancer in 30 yos cause of the burn pits. Respiratory problems as well. They just say fuck you and move on.

7 years ago | Likes 210 Dislikes 1

Now see in the Navy we just threw shit overboard. We’re all environmentally conscious and shit.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pffft nothing a few painkillers can't cure -VA

Shitter burn pits?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Ammo burn pits

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, just general purpose burn pits.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Yup. Trash mostly, excess equipment, uniforms. People rake and sift it while it's burning too.

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Old 5590's god those stank

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Glad this written out because I can't hear worth a fuck after serving.

7 years ago | Likes 1344 Dislikes 7

Restaurants can get pretty loud

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did I 3M you correctly?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought tinnitus was an automatic 10%?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unrelated to your service

7 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 0

Yes, you shouldn't have listened to all those loud explosions.

7 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 0

Should have had your 3m earplugs in...oh wait...haha

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

apply for hearing loss and tinnitus yet?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can only do that before you get out.....was my understanding

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nope, can do it at any time. file a claim at your local RO or contact a VSO

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Did you have those yellow/black 3m ear plugs? I’m not military but even I’ve heard about the epic fuckup those were. look into compensation!

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

VA finally gave me hearing aids after the 3M thing even though Perez fired a SMAW with 0 warning 3 feet to my left and 3 feet back. Oorah

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My tinnitus was deemed not service related. I was field artillery...

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I find it easier to fall asleep with the tv on.. helps cover up the constant ringing.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank u for your service

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My hearing is obviously worse since my deployment. But I magically scored above average on my hearing test....

7 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

There's no limit on how many times that voice will tell you you're pushing the button too many times.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ask for high frequency threshold testing >8k. It's not standard but may well show a significant loss

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's an option?! I lost a lot in my right ear but they said it had averaged out.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just found out last week at the VA this is what I have. Also the wonderful Screeeeeeeee noise that I hear constantly!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't had a hearing test since elementary school, but I thought that would be standard, since high freqs are the first to go.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Standard occupational screening looks at only up to 6kHz. Standard audiometry to 8kHz. But you can actually test to 20kHz.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work with music so I'd have to test to 20k if I went to get tested. Or at least well above 8k, good to know I have to ask for it.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was it because of defective combat earplugs? Sign up for the lawsuit today!

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Ok.. so I've been out over 15 years. WTF are 'combat earplugs'??

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pretty self explanatory tbh. You wear them during combat or maybe even during drills.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought it was because the Kaiser had stolen the number twenty?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's why your talk to a lawyer, like I am doing.

7 years ago | Likes 458 Dislikes 5

“That’s why your talk to a lawyer”. I see you’re a marine.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Try using a VSO they are there to help you through your appeals. Also look into getting a nexus letter from an outside dr.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Hit me up I’m going through all that shit right now. I’ll be happy to try and help.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No that's why you report incidents when they happen like any civilian would have to do to recieve workmans comp. This isnt the VA's 1/

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 15

Incompetency. It's a problem that would happen to literally anyone that does not document an injury. Tired of vets acting like their 2/

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 14

Problems are somehow unique despite being treated far better than any citizen civilian. 3/3

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 16

You're joking right? You cant be serious lololol

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What's the issue you have with my remark?people can claim that the attitudes in the military make it difficult for soldiers to report 1/

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Many vet problems aren't the result of single acute injuries, but injuries over time. There is also a culture against reporting aches 1/

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

and pains that are indicative of non-accute damage, and that is encouraged by incentives and superior officers in a way it's not in 2/

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I have a 20% disability rating. 10 for back and 10 for hearing.

7 years ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 1

Yeah, talk to a lawyer. Back and hearing should be more.

7 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 0

You got 10 for hearing? The 8 years I was in fixing jets and dealing with their loud asses left me with tinnitus and hearing loss, got told

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To suck it up when I was separating. That they no longer covered that in VA disability

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They don't add ratings together. You are rated at the highest percentage of one disability.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Then why is my compensation rating at 70% when I was rated 10% tinnitus and 70% PTSD with sleep trouble?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They told me my hearing wasn't service connected despite being an 03 and being blown up the assholes said that there wasn't a connection

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Oorah. Change your socks, take a Motrin, drink some water.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband was blown up. He still has shrapnel in him. His disability is for his ankle because the shrapnel wasnt the Army's fault.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Can you wear ear protection during service? Is any of it preventable? Because I feel like you can't and it isn't.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It depends on the service, the job, the location, etc.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In 05 we were issued some dogshit you couldn't keep in while moving, and didn't help shit as far as most condition. Firing a gun indoors
