This is the face of our hardened criminal. At 17:46 Wednesday, August 30, this man walks into my comic shop while my friend and shop volunteer Keith was putting away back stock. He takes the time to look straight into the camera.

Then scoped out Keith in the other room.

He also made a quick check of our back stock on as well.

The perp then grabbed the shop's money bag, stuffed it down his pants and quickly exited the building. Total losses?

One money bag, and about 300 customer receipts, all of which had no monetary value whatsoever. He even passed up an open cash drawer.

I thought about filling a police report, but I'll leave it to the owner. In any case, I figured it would be quite hilarious to share with you, Imgur.

Birb tax.

Jokes on you, he works for the IRS and knows your boss is a launderer for the mob; now he's got all the proof he needs

Let me guess. Black lives matter.

Opportunity makes thieves. Time to retrain some staff.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have cockatiels as well c: mine are kind of assholes but I still love them

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Comic book villains need to step up their game

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

File a report. They are used to determine areas that need patrols, community outreach and social welfare programs.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That really sucks and the owner needs to file a police report as well as set up a register and money handling lesson for the employees.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Imgur... Let us band together and buy some proper cameras for the guys. As a collector, i cant stand people robbing comic/toy stores

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you could tell the cops he stole thousands though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Negro falco ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How is it your comic shop yet you are waiting on the owner to file a police report?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let me just look straight at the camera so the police can get the best description of me...iq level of room temperature.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's worth filing a police report because of the identity information on the receipts

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Cute birb

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He could be doing a dry run. File a police report ASAP. This asshat probably has a criminal record, and you might not be so lucky next time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Petrol station I used to work out had Gas cylinders stolen one night after I left, they got caught because one of them used the ATM

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That looks like a really tiny shop. Where is this?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On the south end of Westerville, Ohio. Slightly north of Columbus.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gonna get sued by the thief for trying to entrap by leaving the bag out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's not entrapment. Stop perpetuating that bullshit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely thought that was John Cena at first

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You do know that credit card slips can be sold for information

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Doubtful. The receipts we're retained for tax purposes. They contain no person info outside of one's name and last four of the card number.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It hurts everyone when people fulfill stereotypes.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 12

Yes, people in black and white striped shirts are not villianious as people make them out to be

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

At least he didn't ask you if you knew where Jessica Hyde was. http://imgur.com/aU4D3az

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great show. Fun fact, the guy who did the soundtrack now does Dirk Gently, makes it feel really similar

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cristobal Tapia de Veer - his stuff on soundcloud is great.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Encourage the owner to at least file a police report. This asshole will do this again and it may not be so harmless next time.

8 years ago | Likes 765 Dislikes 2

Rat

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Yeah, with evidence like this you (generally) will get radically better treatment from the PD (at least in my experience)

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

i.e. instead of "yeah, yeah, your bakery or some shit got robbed, ok whatever" > "wait, you have evidence? ok, hold on"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why wouldn't you file one? It may be some paper work but you have video evendence and a clear (ish) image of his face

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Clearish? Man I worked at chain gas stations that get held up monthly w way shitier cameras then this. These are good.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The security system sat in the owner's house for a solid six months before any of us had time between jobs and family crises to install it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Worst.. theft... ever...

8 years ago | Likes 234 Dislikes 3

There was a recent one in Mexico where 2 guys in the back started robbing people while a separate guy was doing the same from the front

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They met in the middle and both shot each other to death. Police speculated they each saw the others gun and thought it was a cop

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Simultaneously robbing the same bus... I hope someone writes a ballad about their dumbassery

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Leave it to the owner? You said it's your comic shop?

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Lots of employees refer to their place of business as theirs. It's just semantics. Op didn't say he owned it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

If where I work got robbed, no matter how minor my position, I would say that "My store got robbed!" instead of "The location I'm employed".

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unless it's like, Walmart. Fuck Walmart.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can still *run* one.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 9

So you're a manager?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty much.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

run and mine is two different thing bro

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 10

Eh, semantics.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You're being unnecessarily pedantic. People refer to the place they work as "my" or "mine" all the time, and no one thinks they own them.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yeah, if you're a slave.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you leave an open cash drawer unattended? Dudes a bitch for being a thief but it's your job to not let these things happen.

8 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 2

"I'm not even supposed to be here today!" - Dante Hicks

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wasn't there that day. The guy who was had issues working the cash register.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

But like, shouldn't one person always be on the floor to prevent this from happening?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

In theory, yes. In his defense, it was 15 minutes until closing time and he was filling merch away. But yeah, it was an error on his part.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

No defence.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uhm, closing time along with mornings is the prime time for robberies.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

...but seriously, how much can it cost to upgrade to a full set of HD security cameras?

8 years ago | Likes 168 Dislikes 11

About 3 fiddy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

whew... and here I thought it was going to cost tree fiddy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The reason a lot of security footage is crap is because it's really zoomed in.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For a good one? A lot? For cheap, unreliable, (shocker:) Chinese, garbage? Not much.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly, the HD cameras and such aren't that costly anymore, the issue tends to come down to cloud based storage and internet speeds...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You would think even with 1080p cameras that you could make out a license plate on a passing by car but, nah. (Lost a trailer last year)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a comic store man. They arent making much profit, if any at this point. It's amazing they can even pay rent these days.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

honestly? A lot of money. You need something reliable, wired in, and MASSIVE storage.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One money bag.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do this for a living. It cost alot. A standard HD Camera that's not crap is around 2-3 hundred $$$. 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then you'll need a pc to record the video, typically a server machine, $1,000~ then software, 3-6 hundred depending on what you want 2/?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The to wrap it up, network POE Switch, 2-3 hundred, cable $200 and labor(depends on how long it will take but you get the picture.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he kind of looks like a bird in the last pic.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Considering the fact that they're breaking DOL laws by having a "Shop Volunteer", chances are they have bigger problems.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he volunteers his time, and gets store credit and other things as requested. Sounds OK to me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless he's being paid minimum wage, you're in violation of federal law. So have fun with that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My work spent 40k on cameras but as they've refused to fix the roof for years, the one that watches me filled with rain water the next month

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was 7 cameras, they didn't even replace the one we already had which is the most important one. The quality is so much worse than this ^

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That plan probably looks good when quickly reviewed on paper but not thought through.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like 2000 comic book sales probably. I don't know how these places even stay in open

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

You can get a set of 4 HD cameras and a recording system for $250. If a shop can't afford that, they can't afford to be in business.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 21

why don't you give them the money, since apparently you have it lying around

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you know how much data a standard 720p camera generates when it's recording 24 hours a day, seven days a week?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

This is exactly why I don't have HD cameras at work. 50 cameras, 2 months stored footage. Not practical in HD

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And after 2 months the data is recorded over, and if it's needed it's pulled off the server and put onto another storage device.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Literally every security cam footage I've seen is all potato. That's one of the situations where quality really matters

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Storage man, storage and networking upgrades just aren't worth the money for a small shop like this. way too much money in that.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the main issue tends to be low light, below a certain level the sensors just cant do anything very useful

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe the specific camera I captured the image from (via my camera phone) was in infrared mode. Not sure if that affects the quality.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it can do, very much depends on the specific sensor in the camera

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the resolution. I can't remember what I set it as, to be honest.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to think about how much more storage you need for the quality increase, not just the price of the cameras

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Yup. Increase resolution and frame rate and you might only be storing a days worth with upgrading storage

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

*without

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My home camera is 720 color with IR and 24 hours free cloud storage. Is this really an issue for a business?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Storage is cheap - problem is a lot of scammers in the IT world.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on the business and how long they need to retain. I was just saying that you've gotta increase the storage to get same time frame

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes, because commercial licensing is a thing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know what you're on about, but there's absolutely nothing stopping a business from buying and using my camera.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, not currently in the budget for such an upgrade. It would be nice, though.

8 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

There are phone apps that can work somewhat. Might be worth looking into if there is some phones around that are not used.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

old cell phones can be used as IP webcams

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe leverage your insurance company for lower rates if you had better security equipment?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I don't even think we have insurance. Holy hell, I never even bothered to ask the owner that.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can get a set of 4 HD cameras and a recording system for $250. If a shop can't afford that, they can't afford to be in business.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

Your callous disregard for an already difficult financial situation is noted.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

It's not disregard, it's a fact. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it's still the truth.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

What, ordering people's books and items before upgrading a security system that already suits our needs?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He doesn't care to prevent it from happening.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

You just about lost your entire inventory. You should try and make room for such a budget or you won't have inventory.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

When sales increase, maybe. Unfortunately, it's not in the cards at the moment.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

In that case, this business is doomed. You really can’t afford a $200 camera? I have one in my home ffs.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No no you don't understand, everyone else knows what's best for your business

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

If somebody gets any serious amount of your property, it'll be more of a loss than the amount required to combat that.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

People don't really get how much financial stress there is on small businesses do they

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You guys seem to have no concept of the fact that you actually have to be able to pay for things when running a business.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You seem to lack the concept that it takes at least a few hundred dollars in discretionary capital expenditures to avoid a major theft/loss

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you post a link to your comic shop maybe some Imgurians will buy things for the 'Get our store better security cameras' fund drive.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

£200 for a 4 pack of 720p cameras and recorder unit... £280 for 1080p and hub.. compared to how much he could have stolen?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

You've never met a retail store owner have you? It is impossible to convince my parents to upgrade the shit in their store and I've given up

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

its not a huge outla when you could have been looking at hundreds, even thousands of loss

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Don't shops get a better insurance rate with security cameras? I know places with fire sprinklers do because they are less risky.
