Correct

If a company is too anal to require a cover letter then they are too anal for me.

I use recruiters. They’re like a cover letter, they sell you in to the job so you don’t have to!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that can be arranged.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Recruiter here: only include what's necessary. If it's on your resume already, spare me

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Amen. Why bother with a cover letter when you’re barely going to read my resume?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hiring director: bold. I like that.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I was unemployed I didn’t write a single cover letter. I made a website with my portfolio and resume and that was enough.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nobody reads them anyway

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I write one for any job I actually want. Granted I usually throw out like 20 apps at a time, and maybe do a letter for 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why? It's not like its difficult

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The wheels on the bus go crunch crunch crunch

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You didn’t get enough outvotes for this superb comment

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just find a template and add some interesting bit about yourself. And use a thesaurus

When I was unemployed I didn’t write a single cover letter. I made a website with my portfolio and resume and that was enough.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't write cover letters anymore. I've gotten to the stage where I just don't care. If they ask for one, I submit my resume again.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why? It's not like its difficult.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously, if you want a job with career prospects, especially in an office environment, spend the extra 15 minutes to write one. Lazy mofos

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s probably not the job for you then.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Bunch of random positions request cover letters now. Applied to a receptionist position that required a damn cover letter.

You wouldn't cause the letter would be already written. Otherwise how world you know?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are we still doing cover letters? I just finished hiring for a job and none of the applicants nor the recruiters sent one in, just resumes.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My cover letter is directly responsible for my current career

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a recruiter... Its not too bad when it's somebody elses

6 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 3

Do you want to help some people out in exchange for fake internet points?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well I don't own a bus, so it'd have to be someone else's.

When it’s not actually a resume. Like, if someone uploaded their phone bill, we stop to talk about that. 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The people we actually reach out to are the ones with the experience e want.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's weird, but your email. I hate it when I get an application and i have to address the response email to "cutezcourtnixo@hotmail"

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I made an email account specifically for job hunting, with just my name and a number at yahoo.com.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Btw, I made that up as a joke. If its a real persons email, then it proves my point.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never really came across that but I deal with software developers/IT candidates so you'd expect at least a normal email address

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Poor grammar, incorrect spelling, and terrible formatting choices.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

So using Comic Sans was a bad choice?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lack of detail/too much detail... poor/inconsistent structure... Too many charts/pics... varied fonts.. Spelling/grammar mistakes.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Would your own fellow coworkers pass the recruiting process if they were asked to apply today?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Furry porn.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never had a call back because of my furry porn included in my cover letter. Though I've also never been called back yet.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm a recruiter, and I rarely read cover letters. I'm much more interested in a solid resume.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some big companies use programs that sort through your resume and CV. So having one for each application help bypass it. Using keywords 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 in the actual job description helps to bypass the program. Just a pain to do for every individual application.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Found the unemployed guy. I have a folder on my drive with several dozen I saved from when I was starting out. I got mine. Get yours.

I used to do this as a job. Cover letter formula: step by step what to write:

It's made up!

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

god dammit i just submitted my first job application yesterday and completely forgot the cover letter....

And this!!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are a wonderful person for sharing this!!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cover letters are neat in concept, and cute to see when you are a recruiter...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“I want to work at your company because I like having money for food and housing.” The end.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What is a cover letter?

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 3

a waste of time

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

A letter where you write a bunch of gushy bullshit about how much you love the company you're applying to.

6 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

Spot on. Take your upvote.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just made one for college. Essentially it's you saying, "Hi there! Are you looking for a ____ with the following skills? *List a few 1/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/2 important skills you have that are relevant* If so, please see my attached resume to see that I am the best candidate. I would love to 2/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/3 discuss setting up an interview! You can reach me at phone number, between such time and such time any day. Sincerely, _______"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A document where you put the entire job description in an invisible font so it lights up their keyword search.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Ooooh I'mma have to do that!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That...is actually a really smart idea. I'll have to remember to do that next time. Usually, I don't bother providing a cover letter at all.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Another document for companies to ignore when you apply for jobs.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a person who actually recruits and read these things. A cover letter is a more personal letter of who you are and what motivates you 1/3

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

to apply to this particular position. While the CV is often just factual listings of work experience and skills the cover letter allows 2/3

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

you to show the employer what type of person you are. When I receive applications with no motivational cover letter they stand less chances

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A cover letter is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information on your skills and experience.

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

If that sounds redundant, it’s because it is.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I'm experiencing deja vu over here

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe "redundant" is the word you're looking for?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that sounds redundant, it's because it is.

6 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

No, you should not rehash your resume in your CL. Use your CL to expand on how the things on your resume make you right for the job.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

That answers my followup question lol

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I submit references twice when cover letter is required. ..I’ve also never even gotten a call back from where I’ve done that.

6 years ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 2

"We want to see that you're really determined for this job, you never had a chance at"

6 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 3

Never had a chance at what

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You get call backs?

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

For the best, imo. I also don't consider any place that asks for a resume and then asks me to input info from that resume.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 11

So... You don't have a job? That's like every place.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow where do you apply? Like Mom and Pop stores? I've been job hunting off and on and both shitty and good jobs have that

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Last time I did job applications I just put "See CV" in every field that asked for info that was in my CV. I got an intrrview or two too.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Your job hunting practices may be outdated, or limited. It is extremely common for places to ask you to submit CV and complete a profile.

6 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Best practice is to get recruited. Set your LinkedIn to "open to new opportunities" and let the offers roll in.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In today's episode of "Pretending I'm Giving Advice as a Flimsy Excuse to Talk About Myself"

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should probably consider changing your standards when next on the hunt. Completing a profile isn't so terrible.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Or don't. Not like I'm hiring.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

No thanks. If the first thing I notice about your company is your stupid application system, I don't want to work for you.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 11

Oh.... You're not hiring. v
