There are worse ways

Uneven cooking. You destroyed them.
SpartaWolf117
maybe cut a couple minutes off the cook time when you try again
HiImArgo
I'll eat something like this one day.
Eclaircissement
One of my goals when I bought my cast iron skillet was to make the "Perfect" steak. Read all the advice. Winged it today. It was great.
wanderingsibyl
Season the sides as well next time
IWatchedYouGetThemWet
Keep it up! Good cuts are expensive. Ranch steaks are cheap like ground beef and you can practice grill technique
somethingfunnyandrandom
Great for a first try. They to keep the timing equal for both sides. Only flip once
HelloMyNamesInigoMontoya
That was probably the hardest part for me was not flipping took early and end up having to flip again. It feels like dodging a train
Flaxon
Tad overdone for my tastes, but I'm not one to tell you you're doing it "wrong" if you enjoyed the outcome.
JasonThorn
I do like that char on the outside, but that's a personal preference.
HelloMyNamesInigoMontoya
For a first timer that's not bad. Just be careful, the quest to grill a perfect steak can be addicting

Wait until you discover how to make grill marks
HelloMyNamesInigoMontoya
I grilled up some marinated chicken breasts earlier, gave them some beautiful cross hatch marks. Took some practice, but as easy as it looks
Drewid420
I got 5 steaks marinating in my fridge right now, can't wait to cook em up.
HelloMyNamesInigoMontoya
I really hope you have friends coming over
IamAMON
Just grilling them in general is addicting. I've cooked steak almost every weekend since late March. About to make one now actually
HelloMyNamesInigoMontoya
Agreed, but after a while it's fun to switch it up. I've been working on grilling vegetables lately along with the meats
tpubgu
Try 3 1/2 minutes one side, and 3 minute the other.
AsABlackMan
Cool it there pyromaniac
tpubgu
Well, you do need a screaming hot grill.

Anything beyond the cow giving birth into your mouth is overcooked
