Bog bodies are the creepiest thing in the planet

These are all on display at the National Museum (Archaeology) in Dublin, Ireland

They're thousands of years old but have been spectacularly preserved in peat bogs due to a lack of oxygen, which stops them decomposing

A few were discovered when labourers cutting peat accidentally cut the corpses in half

I think the skin creeped me out most, looking like leather but knowing that's real human flesh

The preservation is so perfect that even this man's manicured fingernails survive today

A lot of the bodies were ritual sacrifices, although some were murder victims...
