Nicest note I’ve ever received as a waitress

This is a napkin right? Not toilet paper?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*attentive *prompting come on Pamela

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Old folks in Florida are complaining to wait staff that their menu is limited.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This whole concept of a single dedicated waiter/waitress per table is bizarre to me, seems like it would slow things down a LOT

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> and yes, I know it's because of the toxic American tipping culture that I'm fortunate not to have

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Verbal tips… nice but not as valuable as you know, actual tips. $$$$$$$$$$$$

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a former waiter I can assure you Id have busted out crying. I quit the biz because people got way too nasty .

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Probably didn’t tip shit

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This seems very passive aggressive. Just comment on how well she is doing, not on the industry.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sounds like someone who is usually horrible to staff.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a happy

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thought that was a roll of fancy toilet paper

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

tips need to die, people should be payed what they're worth. which is A LOT.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I make a lot off of tips. Please don’t stop it

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I often complain but here's a note in lieu of a couple of buxs for a tip. Luv pammy.

3 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 16

I thought it was on toilet paper…

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Looks like a napkin

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see that now ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A waitress friend once told me she was tipped with a Bible from a Church group that dined in. She threw that Bible away.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ve been tipped with what looked like a $50 sticking out but turned out to be a pamphlet for Jesus.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did this Pamela leave a monetary tip? Not hating, just wondering. She misspelled "prompting". Again, not hating, just pointing that out.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Servers are paid to be fake nice. They are there to make money, not friends.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice complement, but Pamela sounds like a bad customer lol.

3 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 10

Yeah, feels very backhanded to me :/ I hope OP receives proper compliments in the future (and good tips)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Customer service as a whole is terrible but you're one of the good ones"

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Kinda weird, I'd say 99% of the time I eat out I get friendly, attentive service. The exceptions stand out.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

I thought it was written on toilet paper.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I'm shocked how far I had to scroll down to find a comment about that. So glad I'm not alone.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Dear waitress..." I literally told you my name up front, they make me do that

3 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 13

Even if I asked your name most likely I will immediately forget it

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It’ll always be on the bill

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If they liked the service so much, why not ask again to put it in the note they took the time to write? It's not that hard.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Prompting*

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

*attentive *refilled

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

kinda shitty that they had to put down other service employees to do it tho

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 9

Hard truths are still truths. Service sucks most places nowadays but i dont complain because i know how underpaid and overworked most are.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Ten to one you haven't even been to most places.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'mma take that.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wtf? She left a nice note and all some people can complain about are how much she tipped? Fuck this.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 9

Last I checked I can’t pay my mortgage with compliments.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Idk it kind of sounds like she’s shutting on the whole industry for not being servile enough.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I am amazed at these responses... Imgur can flip pretty quick. Are we bow shitting on wholesome notes?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

If they wrote a wholesome note *instead of* tipping, absolutely. Unfortunately, OP hasn't mentioned if they tipped or not.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So you have no evidence, yet assume the worst that someone didn't get tipped well after a nice comment... Maybe reflect upon yourself

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most people don't want to show how much money they make. Why not just spread the positive note?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't say if it was good or bad. OP tagged this with "nice" so they probably tipped well in addition to the note. You reflect.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Protip: If you want to do a favor to your server & can't afford a tip, tell their manager how great they are. Positive feedback is rare.

3 years ago | Likes 307 Dislikes 5

(By can't afford a tip, I mean "I'd give you a pile of money if I could, but I can only tip 15%)

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

If you DON’T tip, you cost the server money. They have to tip out Bartender/busboy/expo. IRS wants their share also, wether tipped or NOT!

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

Confirmed. Sad but true fact. Tip out is based on total sales, not on tips. So you can have high sales and crap tips.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Also, if you don’t have money to tip when dining at full service then simply don’t go out to eat. Just cook at home or get fast food.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Fast food is also eating out. Are you one of those not tipping the servers at McDonalds?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

true. sometimes in restaurant when food or service was top, then we go to the hatch btw. kitchen and counter to praise the cooks work.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Servers pay the restaurant a % of sales. Not tipping actually costs the server money. Go to McDonald's instead of not tipping

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Servers DO NOT pay the restaurant their tips. They possibly tip out support staff like busers and expo but NOT the restaurant.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Depends on the restaurant, I've done both. Ruby Tuesdays calculated tip out based on sales.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the tip out does not go to the restaurant! It goes to support staff. Like I said above contradicting what you said.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The restaurant might hand it out to the support team but they take it based on sales not tips. You don't get tipped, you still pay.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't you pay at that particular restaurant for a reason?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta tell you guys this looks super dystopian from anywhere not American. What is this cursed form of tipping blackmail.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"We wont pay our workers, so YOU should feel guilty and not eat uwuwuwuwuuwuwu"

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

*Pro tip: if you want to do a favor to your server and can’t afford to tip, stay home and don’t go out. Gas bills aren’t paid w/ compliments

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 9

Or go somewhere that actually pays their staff properly rather than forcing them to rely on charity

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Exactly. Don’t go to eat at 99% of restaurants. See we’re on the exact same page :-)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Hard to shift a whole culture though when it’s the industry standard. Unions are the answer!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, no. The gas bills should be paid with wages not extra tip from customers. Less business will harm the employees.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tips are not an “extra” in America. It is standard and part of the cost of going to a full service restaurant as any decent human knows.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they are not an extra they should simply be reflected in the sticker price. Besides, it seems noone can agree on what is the correct %.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It should, but it’s fucking not! What aren’t you getting? You’ve obviously never left your country and had to adjust to another culture

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So it is not very standarized.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously? I know that people here on Imgur tend to be part of a pro-tipping culture, but at the same time it's not my job as a consumer (1

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

To ensure their wage is decent. Of course don't take advantage of people in some/many companies with a bad record. But being able to (2

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Afford a 20%-25% tip (apparently the new standard here in Seattle) is NOT a prequalifier for me to go out and have occasional fun. (3

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I was in food industry when I was younger. I wasn't even allowed to accept tips. Good reviews to my manager got me decent, regular raises.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Ot literally is. If you can’t afford to tip and take advantage of a server you can’t afford to go out to eat broke ass.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe this is a hot take but if you can't afford a tip you should order to go and not take advantage of waitstaff.

3 years ago | Likes 130 Dislikes 12

If you can’t afford to tip, eat the food at home.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

To-go hostess here. I took orders, rang up, expo, prepared & packaged orders. I did 3 ppls jobs for each meal by myself on top of regular>

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

> hostess duties. It was a lot. All on min wage. And few people tip on takeout. The few who tip even $5 on a sizable order made my night.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

To be clear, I do think that the tipping system is fucked and employers should just pay a reasonable wage. But they don't. So we need tips.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Tipping as a system isn’t fucked, supplementing pay and deducting from a livable wage through tips is the problem.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That still takes time and effort. Tip me for take out too.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 7

Take out should be paid living wage, there is no table service where tipping is a thing, but course the owners won't do this & thencomplain

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think the hot take is that restaurants should pay their employees a living wage and stop asking me to subsidize paying their staff.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I forgot the tip once for the pizza delivery guy. I walked back to my place, grabbed cash, saw he left, then walked to the store to deliver

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck the cooks am I right?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

How is that taking advantage of waitstaff? They get paid for doing this.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should tip for takeout. If it comes from a restaurant, always tip.

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 17

Do you tip McDonald's?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The cooks get paid fine

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never tipped takeout before covid, because I don't tip anyone else who produces products for purchase, but do now on account of the public

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I sometimes do, but don't feel obligated to for takeout. Table or bar service only.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

When I delivered pizzas I'd get $5-10/hr in tips. Counter got maybe $1-3/hr. Same base pay. So I always try to give at least a couple $s.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe the owners of the restaurant should pay a wage better than $3.50 an hour instead of relying on a system of good will. I tip 20% always

Where I live, the servers make the same as the fast-food workers, but we're expected to tip the servers and not the fast-food workers. /1

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's neither feasible nor reasonable to expect people to tip every low-wage position due to a systemic problem that needs to be fixed.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Assuming that this is @Electronicdrummergirl post, she obviously felt this note was more important than a tip. Good for her.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 6

Yeah I agree. People complain about the tip (which we don't know), but sometimes the little things like this can make your day/week.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It feels like so many comments are unfairly making assumptions about and hating on poor Pamela for saying something that made OP feel good.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Lotta projection going on in those comments

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I see many fairly hating on "poor Pamela" for managing to sound like a bitch despite the smiley face.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

By thanking and complimenting OP and telling her she had restored Pamela's faith? Maybe Pam's tired of tablet terminals and automated calls.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

OBVIOUSLY that's the part I was referring to, yeah. Not the part where she's whining and passive aggressive. Maybe think next time.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It’s just the phrasing that is off.. it’s like a compliment but with complaining in same time.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Def some left handed compliments here

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh, she's venting while thanking OP. It's like when I thanked my dentist for being so careful and kind because my last one was awful.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also the last phrase “you are what service should be” means she didn’t do great, she did just as it should be. Be better version would be:

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“You did an excellent service and beyond” that means she didn’t just do what it should be, that she did even better

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, but you don’t tell your dentist that the whole dentist profession is lame but he is ok. That he should stay nice as he is.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the note didn't say that. I was afraid to go to any dentist after the one I had. I only went because a tooth actually broke and and it >

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how much was the tip? those are kind words and all, but...

3 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 11

seriously. "i often complain about how customer service has died" is not the sign of a good tipper.

3 years ago | Likes 144 Dislikes 10

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

also took the time to write a note but doesn't know the servers name even though it was almost certainly on the bill.

3 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Seems like a case of "not enough to write a book about".

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nearly every place I go the waitstaff tell you their names. So yeah, this stinks of a 'I was in a good mood today so you get a goodjob.gif'

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

I've been to a good few restaurants over the years but not one that's ever had the wait staff tell me their name, and often enough they >

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

> haven't even worn a name badge so it's just "Excuse me sir/miss" the entire time and it's always felt weird.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, I can forget names as I'm being told them

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

no joke, i didn’t actually internalize or remember my childhood best friend’s name for like a year. some of us are rly bad with names

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And he tipped $.00

3 years ago | Likes 599 Dislikes 34

Eat dick. You’re the problem

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 49

Attitudes like this are the real problem.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Oh I must’ve read Palmela as Pamela.

3 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was the tip

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Still better than those "tips" from church ladies that looks like money but just say a prayer.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Nah. Those are annoying but you can go and give them back to the church that gave 'em away in their collection dish.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But then I have to waste my time going to church

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hope they didn't need to because that waitress was paid a good wage!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Well she's a guy so.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Was she wearing khakis and a red shirt?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You sound like a bitch

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 15

I have actually gone back to restaurant's where I couldn't afford a tip the next time I got paid and tipped the waitress + a bit extra. >

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My mother was a waitress for nearly 20 years so I had heard of the stories of people who didn't tip and felt horrible if I couldn't tip then
