My dream is to visit two places. Japan (From Okinawa to Hokkaido) and Las Vegas. Thanks OP for the motivation.

Looks like fun! No idea what's going on but with the way the world is these days, we could all use a little more celebration and good times.

Takayaki in there. Best I’ve ever had.

Just waiting for Hanako Arasaka's float to come into range. For you, Jackie. We're gonna hit the big leagues where it hurts.

I saw a good slice of life anime that had the boy participate in one of these festivals. Id highly recommend it

If I didn’t live in the usa, I could have saved money to go there. Maybe in my next life I’ll get to go.

Osaka produces the most CEOs in Japan.

Love the traditional Japanese music they overlaid over the video. It really just takes you there.

I know the heat+humidity would kill me, but I'd love to see all the japanese summer matsuri...

My wife & I traveled to Tokyo (she grew up USA) to visit her family shrine. I thought she’d suddenly adapt to to her ancestral homeland. Day2:”Oh Gawd I can’t stand this hot muggy place!!” (Collapses hotel w AC)

The secret to surviving is vending machine drinks, always bring a hand towel, coolish icecream from conbini and cooling wet sheets for the body.

Oh and spend a bunch of time in other very hot/humid places too if you can. Source: moved to Italy (northern, very humid where I am) from north UK (yes yes, out of the frying pan and into the fryer figuratively and almost literally)... you never fully get used to it but you do acclimate pretty well.

Especially shikuwasa! Refreshing

Is it better or worse than say Texas humidity? Cause if it's comparable I can survive

Depends, where in Texas and where in Japan? Japan isn't very wide, but its about as far north to south as it is from Southern Texas to Northern Wisconsin. As a point of reference: Osaka's average humidity this august was about the same as Galveston. Personally my favorite part of Japan is up north on Hokkaido where it doesn't get as humid, Sapporo is a beautiful city with amazing food.

I'm in the Gulf region, so Galveston is about right for this swamp area as a point if reference. The Cold though......that might get me I'm not use to it. Though I do prefer it

is that in a mall?

They're covered street markets! You just turn the right corner while walking down the street and you're in one. They're very cute.

Dotonbori

Was wondering the same, is it a covered street, or do their malls look like their alleyway markets.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this is cool. when I hear "outdoor asian market" this is not what I think of. I think of like our makeshift farmer markets on downtown streets. this is much cooler.

You usually find these in larger cities. The ones in smaller cities and towns are probably more akin to what you're thinking of. These, while covered, are still open-air. So it's somewhere in the middle between a traditional market and a mall.
