8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was thinking of this too. Lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My personal theory on how crepê was invented: some englishman went to France. Of course at some point he got hungry, so he went into an..

*Crêpe, not crepê. The circonflexe accent indicates a missing S, in this case from the Latin 'crispus', meaning 'curled'.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Yes, couldn't remember which way around. Also since I prefer the dutch/ german version (Pannekoeken/Pfannkuchen).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

CREPE LITERALLY MEANS CRISPY

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why the French for hospital is 'hôpital', again the circonflexe replaces an S.

And Êtienne for Steven

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same for forêt and all these words with a ^ this the only use of this accent in our language

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

..inn. And described them how to bake a pancake, 'cause that's what he wanted. When said pancake arrived, it was that flimsy thin thing...

8 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 3

"Bake" a pancake? That implies its going in the oven. I've never made a PANcake in an oven before.

Actually you can totally bake pancakes. We did them all the time in a sheet pan as a kid, yum and way less work (if you are cooking for 10)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But that takes the pan out of pancake, you monster! Though that does sound like a good "life hack" thing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry if I came across as a dick, the internet hasn't been kind to me. It has molded me, shaped me, etc.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

English is not my first language. And in my language it's either "baking" or "making".

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Never had a Dutch Baby before?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A kid or do you mean a food thing? Either way it's a no

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

..nowadays known as "crepê". Disappointed asked the englishman "What's this crap?!". The french chef misundertood this as a compliment...

8 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 2

Since then the name has stuck around.

8 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 1

I'll subscribe to this theory!

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

100% you should animate this

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

You could make this a really confusing BtG

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is a BtG?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a foreigner, I've never had a pancake, but I love crepes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Elaborate. Why foreigner?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

okay hold on. I'm coming over to cook you some pancakes from scratch

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American: English pancakes suck too

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

US and UK recipe are identical the only difference is US prefers them small and thicker.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

IKR! Have you SEEN what the English call "muffins?"

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm a fan of the dutch/german variant. Not too thick, not too thin. Just right, and with a shitload of variations.
