I currently work in a call center. I have been there for 3 years.

I've worked in a toy store, in an auto dealership, as a photographer, in a metal stamping factory, with horses, in food service, in a convenience store, in a street performing group, and as a social media lackey.

My degree is in English with a minor in Art & Design.
My only marketable skills are Customer Service and my Sales experience, and I hated sales.

I used to have a solid dream- to be an Art Teacher, but I was a terrible student in college and flunked out of the education department.

Just had to rant.

I'm 48. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

Find a tech school/CC with a good welding and art metals program. Learn a very marketable skill that has a large artistic/ design overlap.

Oh you hate your job? You know there's a support group for that. It's called the bar. We meet there everyday around 8. -George carlin

Someone asked me once a question that changed my life. He said instead of asking what do you want to do, instead ask... 1/2

Well, Platypusinterrobang, sometimes you do what you love and sometimes you do what pays you enough to do what you love.

Yes! A hobby that doesn't get tied to money is awesome (speaking as someone who became but now isn't a music teacher).

I've been an Elementary and High school art teacher with a BFA in Fine Art. Florida has an alternative certification program.

I'm 27 and sometimes feel this way. Degree in Poli Sci, enlisted in the Army, am now using GI Bill for my masters. I hated the bullshit.

With a degree in English, you could become a Copywriter at an Ad Agency. You'd get to make TV ads.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

39, just a few years from military retirement, and I don't know what I want to be either

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Medias got us believing we should be some top tier bloke with some iconic job. Literally, do what makes you and those around you happy.

You misspelled 'parents' and forgot the emphasis on 'UNDER PRESSURE.'

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a linecook, most people look down on us because of how much our yearly income is. But honestly, cooking is where I feel most at home.

When i got my degree i didn't envision working in a call center. I always wanted to illustrate childrens books but my high school [1/2]

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not being sarcastic, and I'm not a recruiter lol, but have you ever thought about the military? Air Force, or Marines or something?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not really my fit. I think if the country is not capable od helping citizens through good reforms, and not care at all for (2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"ordinary" people, then the country isn't worth to be protected.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My 39th is just behind the corner, and ditto. Still have most of the dreams of my younger self, but even less sense of direction than I had.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Me too. 50 in December. :/

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

24 today and already thoroughly stuck in a career I hate :(

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You too? Oh thank god, I thought I was just a 46 year old slackass!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I think " Grandpa " from now on

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

More like brother to me. Sup?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is why I love the LOTR, Bilbo was 50 when he started his adventure. although i am much younger there is always time for greatness.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

but he also looked 60 when he was 111, so not as much in a hurry...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're only as old as you... or is that the person you're feeling?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have been a 911 Dispatcher for 5 years now. Thought Id love it and honestly hate my life now. Dealing with 8-16 hours of other people's (1

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stress then dealing with my own has cause me to be on multiple meds, can't sleep, can't eat and still day after day I keep doing it. (2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You get comfortable then grow to scared to move around. Even if you feel like you're doing something worthwhile, don't settle. (3

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I know I do my job well but I have one life just like you. Make the most of it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm 28, working as hard as I can for my dream career, but in the end I might not make it. Adulting is hard @op , *hugs*

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Sure is. What're you shooting for?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm a published author now, but i'm not a NYT fancy pants author, all the money I make get's basically cycled back into my career#thestruggle

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey, that's awesome. I love editing, if you ever need help.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks babe, my publishing house handles the edits though, all that stuff is pretty much out of my hands. I appreciate you though!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

:) had to offer. I do some editing for friends that self publish and for my wife's grad school papers.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had the same problem back in college and someone told me to clear my mind for a couple weeks by not letting myself get bored (1/?)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(2/?) It's easy to get bored when you don't have a routine or you let things like TV take up a lot of your time. So I stopped watching.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(3/?) I realized that I was good at writing and gave myself more time to do that. I'm a journalist now. I love it.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

(4/?) It basically let my brain think for itself instead of wandering around for entertainment. Cleared my mind.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So try again, @OP. Being a teacher is something we need. If you WANT to teach, do it. Quit trying because you failed once. That's saddening.

9 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 4

Great advice

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You don't even need an education degree to be a teacher. In fact, most of the worst teachers I've ever seen went that route.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I don't know where the heck you live, I have a teaching degree but have been floating a crappy office job for 2 years due to no jobs.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I wouldn't want a f teacher to teach my kids

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm not sure it's what I want to do. I came from a long line of teachers- (grandmother, mother, aunt, two of my cousins once removed.) 1/

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

My little bro became a teacher. He loves it. But he also was able to find a job. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Art is gonna be hard to find a job in. Oversaturation. IF YOU HAVE THE HEART FOR IT, sped is super fun, incredibly rewarding, high demand.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1. Teacher here. Persistence and borderline stubbornness is required. I went through 37 applications and 9 interviews before my first offer.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

My brother's a teacher. Was laid off 3X. Got certified in special ed (where demand is). Lives in Las Vegas and makes almost 100k.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Forgot what my point was but it's in there.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2. It definitely sucks at first (both finding a job and salary at times). Subbing is actually a great way to really find what you like.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

3. Keep at it, and don't give up on it. If you really want to know if its what you want, look at being an EA somewhere, usually non-licensed
