Inspirational Taekwondo display

Maisie Catt is a double amputee, but she doesn’t let that stop her from kicking butt. This is her sharing her form in front of World Taekwondo President Choue Chung.

This makes me miss my days of Tae Kwon Do.

i legitimately didn't even notice until I tried to figure out why this was "inspirational"...

Looks a bit robotic

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All these asshole comments, yall need Jesus

Lt. 10th Dan

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know where this is going, I've seen kingsmen.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Shes going to be a very strong woman

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Her form could use some work.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When she kicks you SHE goes flying backward

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

What kind of asshole makes a legless girl learn Taekwondo? Could have at least put her onto boxing instead.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So did he give her yellow belt a green stripe?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No he’s Asian. It wasn’t good enough

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember that form. She's doing it very well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sweep the legs

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You think this is badass. Wait until she grows up and has actual robotic legs....She will be able to quite literally kick through walls.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i thought i was used to imgur, but all the comments about how she sucks caught me off guard

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are almost always some asshole edgelord comments -and sometimes those are funny!-, but this is unreal.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She is just practicing for that White House visit... then all hell break loose!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

She’s going to kick some butt

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Taekwondo is the worse choice for a double leg amputee, double arm amputee yes. Had a guy who could kick punches thrown at him. >

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I did taekwondo and crippled a leg after, it's now useless. She should do boxing and some sort of wrestling combo focused on hand techniques

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

v

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You still hit like a bitch!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a fucking asshole... You literally can't do tae kwon do without legs. The whole point of Tae Kwon do is kicking...

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yes you are. But thanks for the info- not!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

'the point' is whatever someone derives from it. She is a beginner with special challenges- this can give her structure and confidence.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you tell me what kwon means in Taekwondo please?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There full thing is "The Art of the Hand and Foot". I'm with you though, she's inspirational.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a kid, I was too shy and self conscious to do ANYTHING. She is awesome. She will do great things in life; nothing is going to stop her.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I instruct at a local dojang, we have an gentleman with advanced Parkinson's, watching him work his way to black belt was amazing!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not about ability, but overcoming your own struggle

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lets hope she doesnt drop anything

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Personally I found Taekwondo a bit useless as self defense. It was far too rigid and formal, despite how parents insisted it was 'the best'>

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because the Korean army is taught it for close quarters combat.... against other people trained in martial arts for similar reasons.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on who you were taught by, the stuff I learned served me very well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When she grow up:

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why is she doing this in front of me I was born in Queens not Corea.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This is why I come to the comments section. Also why I visit the comments section.

6 years ago | Likes 132 Dislikes 3

Exactly! When I’m not digging a post, I’ll skip to the comments!!!

Im adopted.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sweep the... Legs?

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Just a firm push should do

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Her leg sweep is actually an attachment unlocked at level 6.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh please, her balance is completely off. All you'd have to do is push her over in the middle of those forms.

6 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 23

If you downvote me you need your sense of humor checked by a doctor.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 27

I'm downvoting this comment just because you seem to be care for that internet points with that reasoning

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 19

I had to look in the mirror to see if I was having a stroke, your wording sucks.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah, just didn't want it buried, or to get a bunch of comments like "you monster" or whatever. Downvote that one and this one !

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 17

Nope. I don't feel the necessity to downvote this one.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 14

Shut up I downvote both of you fine gentlemans.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 12

Courtesy, Integrity, Indomitable Spirit, Perseverance, Self Control. She has it all!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sweep the peg.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Correct me if I’m wrong... but isn’t this kata in karate ? Not Taekwondo

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Looked a bit like ITF Do San to me but I've not done it for s long time

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

nah, the arm movements are totally Taekwando.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s Taekwondo, and the person she’s demonstrating for is the president for the world Taekwondo federation

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure if there’s an equivalent in karate, but it is Taegeuk Sam Jang in Taekwondo

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

you're right. I would say it's a Shotokan kata.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thought the same

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taegeuk 3 Sam Jang WT Form, not sure if it shares similarities with any Karate Katas though. Source: I teach TaeKwonDo

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Goju-ryu has a basic kata that's kinda similar; first one you learn - block, punch, kick, turn, repeat. Prob other styles do as well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How would you rate her on a scale of 1-7

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Definitely a 5/7. Perfect Score. Considering she has no legs.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Koryo is the best one

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sorry to rain on your wholesome parade, but the only thing im inspired to do is cringe at how uncoordinated she looks. reminds me of

6 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 19

It looks half-hearted. It's not even the legs, it's her arms. They are rarely where they should be and she rushes which makes her- (1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

-whole form even more wobbly. This is the third form you learn, at this point she should know better, even without legs. (2/2)

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I was training it for 1.5y long long time ago and I agree, it's pretty rushed. But, she might be new to this+stress. There's potential tho.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I might be a bit biased since I'm pretty sure my TWD teacher trained rushing out of us as soon as possible but I agree, there is potential!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah, like she randomly met this guy on a London(?) street corner and he looks very politely pleased. Just be chill

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the fat kid with the lightsaber.

6 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 7

Always felt sorry for him, we've all done that at least once yet everyone hated on him for it

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah hey, follow your dreams, kid. dnt let some asshole on the intrnet keep you down. or every asshole on the intrnet. you swing that saber!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My thoughts as well he looked like he was having fun so what did it matter

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Legs or not, she sucks at taekwondo.

6 years ago | Likes 507 Dislikes 90

For now. If she sticks with it and is able to adapt to her prosthetics, and adapt the prosthetics to TKD, she could really fuck somebody up.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You stole my line.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Thank you for saying it so I didn't have to.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, needs smoother hand movement. Not crisp enough. But she’ll get there with practice.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Lmfao... savage af... Christ. There are some things we think and just don’t say. That might be one of them. Not totally sure.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

You must be fun at parties

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 10

Glad you said it cuz I was thinking it the whole time.

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 9

I know, right? She’s not even making the “Hiiiyah” sounds. Psh lame

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously? That's not what's being celebrated here...

6 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 14

Actually, fully functional legs make a shit ton of difference when maintaining form and performing movements. This girl can't pivot at all.

6 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 6

Yeah, but not being able to pivot doesn't make her hand techniques shit?

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 14

Its a fucking beginner level pattern you ass. She's clearly not been doing it long. You need to re read the tenants

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

I think her lack of balance is what is contributing to that.genrally you would have you knees bent whereas she is wobbling around on sticks

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Ntm she must have more difficulty pushing with the leg to enforce strikes with the arms

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taekwondo is unfortunately one of the most highly kick-centric martial arts. :(

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah but she's trying

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

well it's been a good fight but after this I'm DEFINITELY going to hell

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

We'll be in good company

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sucking at something is the first step to being good at something.

6 years ago | Likes 318 Dislikes 10

Thank you Jake

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you so much. I really needed to hear this today...

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

It's also the final step to failing something.

6 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 12

The final step is giving up.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only if you give up.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s also like the third step in foreplay.

Lawful Evil, Lawful Good, Chaotic Evil, Chaotic Neutral!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why doesn’t this man have more upvotes?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No shit, this is a white belt, yellow stripe kata. She is literally new, and shit. That’s not what is being measured here. It’s her spirit

6 years ago | Likes 238 Dislikes 15

And actually shes starting to snap her punches so shes doing well

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 4

Exactly

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Pomsae, not kata. Otherwise you are 100% correct. Her blocks and snap needs work but at that rank people are still learning the basics.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Kata is Japanese isn't it? We always just called them patterns in our ITF class.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, pomsae is the Korean translation. In WTF we called them forms.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya, it’s Japanese, though we called them katas anyway

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Absolutely. Usually white belts dangle their Serbs like limp noodles. This girl will do well if she sticks with it.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

*arms.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

how tf does "arms" get autocorrected into "Serbs"

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can we just celebrate the fact that she is able to learn something most would say she can’t do? I mean how many kids without legs do 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 12

You know that she can't actually do Taekwondo. In normal circumstances she should not be allowed to pass the yellow belt exam.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You know that have the pride and confidence to preform in front of the president of the organization they’re apart of? She’s doing her best

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

We actually do celebrate the fact - i still disaggre with the whole "participation trophy" "every is a winner" kind of mindset

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

a mindset alone isn't gonna make your kid president - not everyone is made for everything - support your kids passion but also tell them

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

when it'S time to stop and reconsider - maybe they have talent somewhere else

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Have you seen some of the things disabled martial artists can do? Have you seen what Alex Brooker is training to do? It’s your attitude 1/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I agree, but if she just started and isn't trying to make a career out if it, what's the harm in her pursuing it?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You disagree with encouraging children to strive for things, got it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

You are wrong lol - there isn't just white and black.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just like how there isn't pass/fail on endeavors like martial arts. This gives her confidence and structure- you can't put a medal on that.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Hi Strawman

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mirroring. The initial strawman was setting up "participation trophy culture", which is barely a thing- def not here; This girl has no legs.
