Welded a dog bowl stand for Burt after seeing something similar on imgur.

No more using a 6ft long coffee table and knocking bowls all the way across it when he gets too excited.

The base is 1"x1" box tube on both sides welded to 1"x 3" box tube, then another piece of 1"x 3" box tube welded to the center of the stand. The rings are 1/4" rod that I bent around plywood circles I made to the dimensions of the bowls then cut and welded to hold their shape. Then the rings were tacked on, leveled out and fully burned onto the 1x3 post. After grinding any sharp edges, my friendly neighborhood paint department spray painted it for me.

Our medic saw what I was making and asked if I could make another one for a humane society silent auction where she volunteers.

Most doggos aren't as tall as Burt so I just made it half the size and asked my roommate to paint it. Hooray for slow days at work and being able to do things for dogs!

Love it!

Saint Bernards are the best.

Make it adjustable and sell them!!

That's great! I'd like one for my Chow, it'd stop his chin getting so grubby.

Not sure but i think thats not good for a dog... i think ive heard dogs are best to drink from low. I could be wrong...

Really good job and that is a lucky dog. I bet it goes both ways!

Why do people keep putting these elevated stands right in front of electrical outlets? Unless there on an arc fault.. issues forthcoming

Human society silent auction sounds like it should be part of a post apocalyptic YA novel.

THIS. This is a great comment.

I’m thinking about getting one now bc my uncle has a larger breed of dog and he has to lay down on the ground to eat

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Neat! It seems tall. How did you figure out the height of the bowls.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe 3"-6" shorter?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is great! Lucky Burt :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is he still a puppy? Seems a bit too tall, but great concept none the less. Nice job.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thought about the same. He can't likely reach food at the closest side of the bowl from that angle.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I need one for my cat... He has a stupid need to "charge up" like a bull pawing the floor in front of the water dish before he gets a drink.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And still manages to dunk face and chest into the water. Even got one of those fountain dishes but it just gets the top of his head wet too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could you maybe take a video of that? I feel a bit mean, but it sounds hilarious.

The cheap-ass Harbor Freight ring roller is awfully hand at the price, just saying. I wouldn't buy much there, but it's too simple to break.

DONT LET DOGS EAT FROM AN ELEVATED PLATFORM, It will cause torsion!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But why.... Has any dog ever asked to have their food raised off the floor ?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I need something like this. All I can find are smaller wooden ones and I have a 80lb golden mix.

Are they for arthritic dogs or Californian owners?

Engineering a solution where no problem existed. Dogs evolved to eat off the ground. This is bad for them.

Burt approves

You get a good hooman hug!!! Way to rock the good vibes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That looks rad! Maybe you could add holes with adjustable notches and throw them up on etsy for extra pocket change.

Raised bowls are great. I had a dog whose hind legs would tremble but my vet told me to get raised bowls and he never had a problem again.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is way too high. Lower it a few inches and it'll be perfect.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The dog isn’t fully grown

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought this kind of thing was only needed for medical reasons. Isn't the elevation bad for some dogs?

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I’ve read so, that there is a link between elevated eating and stomach torsion in certain prone breeds

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Depends on the dog, but if it's big enough to need a bowl, it's probably not good for them. As mentioned, stomach torsion and bloat.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

our vet says it causes stomach torsion. thats what killed our first dog

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

That's awful, I'm sorry to hear that :((

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dane?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he was an Akita. Beethoven. he had bowls raised up like that but we didn't know it was bad

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn. Sorry to hear that. :'(

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Supposedly many larger and taller breeds benefit greatly from elevated bowls because their stomachs can get tangled from low bowls. -vet bud

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So it's worse? Huh, good to know. I remembered him saying it because I intend to get a great dane at some point.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Getting a great dane myself next wednesday. Did my research to be sure I didn't mess up! Elevated feed bowls are really bad for giant breeds

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks friendo.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've a large mixed breed, eats from elevated bowl for the past 7 years without issue. Maybe its only certain breeds?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had no idea people put bowls on things for their dogs. I've only seen them put on the floor. I learned something new today. +1.

8 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

We used to, then he broke it trying to eat the food mid-pour

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Our Shih Tzu has myasthenia gravis so even slightly elevated food bowl are necessary.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Our dog drinks from a height because otherwise he urps water up. Eating at a height can be bad because of stomach torsion though.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

for floor is actually the best place for a dog bowl it stretches their back they're supposed to eat things at ground level

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

We bought a food/water combo that can be put flat or set on a food storage bin for height. First dog was fine flat. Second dog needed height

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For medium/small dogs it doesn't matter much but for big dogs it helps them swallow more easily and swallow less air

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

It’s supposed to be better for their digestion

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

It’s not. It can actually be worse for them. Twisted stomach is linked to a variety of things but mainly large breeds and lifted bowls.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Before dogs had lifted bowls they would just fuckin die. thank goodness for modern medicine

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Obviously there are medical cases where it’s risk vs reward. Didn’t say it should never be used.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

+1 This is info I’ve also seen while looking into twisted stomachs
