Learned too late in life I have a gift for woodwork / fixing most anything. Had I known earlier, I would have just started my own business.

Got to say....if you went to Harvard and you're working in a coffee shop...You likely also went to a lot of drug dealers. Meth.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think I got a 1760 on the SAT and flunked out

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With rich parents, who needs ACT?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

they just got worthless degrees

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Said by a lot of MBAs

Didn't bribe his way to Harvard enough

#1 Their parents both used the Singer side doors: Someone else took his ACT and she got a scholarship for rowing

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

she "forgot to take it" but still got a 35. "It's OK sweetie, you don't need to take it, Mommy will take care of everything"

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have da Google

7 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

+1...and i'm taking this.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got a 26, I have no idea if that's good or not, still dropped out of college, woo.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have no degree, no college. I've worked as an engineer in a half-dozen fields, a space simulation lab tech, several non-entry IT slots...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, people who went to Wharton dont work at Starbucks...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've heard it said that the better the university you go to, the better the restaurant you wind up working at.

"I am so smart, S-M-R-T... I mean, S-M-A-R-T!" was an actual flub by Castellaneta, but they kept it in as it suited Homer perfectly.

7 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

It's hilarious when you see some campus organization use SMRT as a name. This was the line going through my head the second I saw it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hah, and it’s one of my favorite lines from the show!

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I sing it under my breath whenever someone tries to explain something obvious

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I prefer "save me Jebus!"

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I still use “Jebus” lmao! XD

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean I worked at Starbucks for 6months (they have health insurance at 20hours) and I got a lot of shit like this about big fancy degree

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

but then got employed in my field just fine. Working at Starbucks or bartender doesn't stamp you a) as a loser and b) as that for ever

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A future good job doesn't pay for broken bones now or put food in your belly now. No shame in it.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i got a degree in engineering tho. no apron

7 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 10

And yet here you are, seeking validation from strangers in the internet.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yet here we are, both slacking off on imgur.

7 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Count me in as well

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea but the engineer is getting paid a lot more to slack off

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

In my palatial estate.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did it on drugs ♂️

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, a lot of people seem to be missing the fact that working at starbucks after going to Harvard is sad, not just going to Harvard on its

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nope, not missing it. His parents probably just bribed Harvard to get him in & graduate. No sympathy, welcome to the real world.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

own.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i got a degree in computer science and i got an apron on but that's because i'm making dinner right now

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

granite, cement, or quartz countertops?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

vinyl-covered wood in my cheapo apartment

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i see you are not working in computer science yet then

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

grad student problems

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, yes. That sad BA. I feel you

7 years ago | Likes 897 Dislikes 8

All about who you know.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Every bachelor's is equally worthless. You don't really work in your field unless you have a master's. And if you do, it's bitch work.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 46

I have an AA and a BS (one art, one computer science) and I own a small business that's relevant to what I studied.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean a BSN is a nursing degree. They are register nurses.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I disagree. I have a BS in international business and the only two jobs I’ve worked both dealt heavily with that topic.

7 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

not with engineering lololol

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

My bf has his BA in EE. He now builds the electrical systems for huge research lasers, and is his company's main electrical engineer.

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a meh company if they didn't hire a MSEE

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

HAH! You must not have a good grasp on how many of the engineering fields work. That's okay though, there's always time to learn.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

30% of people with engineering degrees are not working in thier field five years after grad

7 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 5

I bet someone with an engineering degree who wants a fine arts job probably has a better chance at it than someone with a fine arts degree.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but not working in your field can mean "got a degree in Cybernetics and is now working in electronic engineering."

7 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Im one of those 30% and am now a hydrologist... its a massively applicable degree

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

BUT. they have massive employability

7 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

That seems pretty low to me. Having spent 10 years in engineering school (PhD), a majority of my friends are engineers, and a big chunk 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

of those with graduate degrees. We're 30 or under, and way less than half are in the engineering field. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

(That said, all are working in *some* field, which is better than most)

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What do you do with a ba in english

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ask if they would like fries with their burger?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

I write and maintain policy and procedures for a major financial institution

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got one because I wanted to teach.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a quote from a musical called avenue q, would recomend

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have actually seen it, it’s hilarious, but it was years ago. So *whooosh*

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My parents and teachers told me that just having a college degree opened doors and it was okay to study the arts. Boy was that a lie.

7 years ago | Likes 187 Dislikes 9

that was true very long ago. im surprised you didnt know :/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m 33, life has not gone the way I planned

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if you really hate your field you might want to take a short QA course. admittedly its the crappiest job in programing, but look it up.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What I studied was only a small problem for me, I had medical problems after college and it got to the point where I’m on disability

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly the advice I got but employers just cared about experience and practical degrees. Welp.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

BA in Creative Writing helped immensely in my LE career. Art translates, just gotta find a compatible job

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Law enforcement, for those confused.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

lesbian empath?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If only

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I studied biology and never worked in my field. Took me two years post grad to find a job that wasn’t retail.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Why not? What stopped you from working in the field?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Economy had crashed. Everyone in the cohort just before mine went back for a masters degree, so they got hired for bachelors level jobs 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

when they got out, since there were so many of them. Degree inflation plus biotech didn’t take off as expected.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Almost have my PhD in philosophy and that’s even probably a dead end.

7 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Network like fuck my dude. Go to as many conferences as you can possibly afford. Kiss up to your advisors and get them to introduce you.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

‘Even’

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Become a professor!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do a code bootcamp. Get into web development. There's a surprising amount of philosophy that's useful for computer science.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You never know, your town might open up a new philosophy factory soon.

Kid might be a douche, but I bet he's not paying for his school...

7 years ago | Likes 333 Dislikes 5

Also, iirc, eastern schools care about ACT and western schools care about SAT. So maybe he took it and then went to a western school.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And good schools allow a converter metric.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didnt pay for my school... chances are you did. As the american tax-payer. YEAHHH

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I got a 34 on my ACT, was awarded a $300 scholarship.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You were also awarded an acceptance. With a score like that though, dude take the SAT and get your National Merit scholarship. Free tuition

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To any participating university on the globe. You could do a year abroad at Oxford free tuition

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He’s definitely a douche I can tell from this unbiased and totally honest tweet.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had outstanding grades and SAT scores, notta thanks to the new FAFSA rules.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Same. Over 4.2/4 gpa, 31 on ACT. Accepted in a heartbeat but no scholarship.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The fact that you could get a 4.2 GPA shows that the scales isn't fair. At my hs, it was impossible to get above a 4, even with honors/AP

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nice! Twinsies on the score, not so much on the gpa. Skipped 1/3rd of my senior year lul

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I’m sure he is, probably just at a significantly reduced rate.

7 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 6

That kind of score likely goes along with good enough grades to warrant a hefty scholarship. Possibly a free ride like FL Bright Futures.

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

For sure, I was just pointing out academic full rides are exceedingly rare.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I got one, it is pretty convenient. My sister got paid by the school to get a degree.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I only had a 32, and was offered full rides at 3 schools. Not bragging, I'm a fucking dropout loser. They just aren't as rare as you think.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Can depend on what schools/degree you’re wanting too. I think there were a few where I would’ve had a pretty good shot at a full academic /1

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a 34 and had 0 full ride offers. So I guess it’s all relative

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I had a 33 and the college i wanted to go for only offered me 10k a year in automatic scholarships. Coulda gone elsewhere for free/cheaper

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: I was awarded $400,000 in scholarships over my university career. Scholarships are not taxable in my country. Study hard, kids.

7 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 3

I didn't get taxed on my scholarships, awards ,grants, etc either. I'm in the US. Where would you expect to get taxed on them?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the United States, scholarship amounts in excess of tuition, fees and books is table as regular income.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that new? As recent as 6 yrs ago none of my excess money was taxed. I got two benefits that paid my tuition and fees and a stipend

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Checking Google, this has been the case since at least 2005. Did you report your scholarships to the IRS?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alternatively, after deducting tuition, was your remaining stipend under a personal deduction amount?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s seems absurd that you would ever need that much unless you go to school for 15 years or something

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Also worth noting Mr Brooker has an Aerospace Engineering (rocket science) degree of some type based on previous interactions with him

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, well, he's no brain surgeon

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It was about 10 years total (B.Sc. through PhD). Tuition averaged around $4k/year. Most of that money was meant to go to living expenses.

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

PhD tuition/stipend is a little misleading. You can't pay to go to a real PhD program and.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, only about a quarter of that was during my MSc or undergrad. But few PhD students are paid $70k after tuition and tax, just the same.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Money goes to whatnow? Ive been to college twice and never saw a single actual dollar from a loan.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I never had a loan. Some scholarships awarded by my university were applied directly to tuition, but most were granted directly to me 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh wow that's amazing, as a kid who wants to go into economics research that sounds amazing!

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It also sounds amazing to me, as a 37-year-old lazyass who would really just like to have his living expenses paid for.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...I realised I said amazing twice haha
