I was able to get on unemployment 2 weeks before the wave of layoffs, and am a part of only 34% of people in Ohio to get actual cash in their hands from unemployment.

I want to say I feel lucky, but I can't seem to feel it while so many people are out there risking everything, going broke, stressing out while I am home and safe.

Nice. If you can spend the extra cash or invest. Maybe take out form a ma and pa place.

Hey you know what? I'm glad for you and I think there's no reason to feel bad. Stay safe @OP

I hit the jackpot. refinanced my house for 3.375 and no payment till June. 3200 from taxes b/c we overpay. 2400 stim. And escrow back

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like I'm sure a lot of people are hoping for this.

Your government should be feeling guilty, not you.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You did not manifest this situation. Roll with it and enjoy.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My province cut funding for my job rather than make use of us. So now we get government money to do nothing rather than work online

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Don't feel guilty. I'm waiting on UI to pay bills and eat. It's what's it's there for. Little guy got a break for once

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just concentrate on the first 6 words.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was hoping to be in the same position....but PTO is considered earned income so I won't get anything for 2 months due to my 'vacation'.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had nothing but good things happen since this covid stuff. I got $1200 on top of my regular pay. Get 40 hours if I work or not.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Same. I may finally have money to move on after this is over. I've been stuck in a bad spot since 2013.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The problem is that when the new depression hits that money won’t be worth a damn.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m in a similar boat. I worked my arse off to earn $200 a week transcribing audio, now on unemployment I get $250 for doing nothing.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just wait until the extra 600 a week kicks In! Then you'll really be blown away haha

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP are the conservatives correct? Is work ruined for you for ever, and will you endeavor to be a leech on the tax payers in perpetuity? 1/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or will you use the safety net, such as it is, to secure access to your basic human needs until you can find employment again? Hmmmm? 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Safety net, 100%. I'm going to be $7,000+ ahead after all this and it's being used to get me the peace of mind I deserve. All while itching1

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To go back to work. I can't stand being inside like this. Great money or not, I wanna be out in the field. Fuck those conservatives

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here !

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mom calls it "a gift in a fucked up package".

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've been pending on unemployment since 3\13 now, use to take 8-10 hours a day just to try and claim weeks we weren't even approved for yet

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same boat except much less money

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're every Republican congressman's nightmare. Good job.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The $600/week means I’m getting paid more on unemployment then I was working.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly! Same here. Works out to 860 a week for me vs the 500 I clear normally. Its nuts!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where's the 34% number coming from? Curious because I'm recieving it but my husband isn't, we were furloughed.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read an article. I cant find it again. But yeah, not many ohioans have gotten their money yet cause of how overwhelmed the system

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why have I seen so many Ohioans here lately?!? Congrats op!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was about to be laid off before covid, but they changed their mind and laid other people off. Now I have to keep working and make less 1/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

than I would have if I'd gotten laid off.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hey man like you said, it was gonna happen anyway. If you didn’t get benefits, that wouldn’t have changed anyone else’s situation either.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If anything, this is helping people MORE since you’re not working and having to go out and put yourself and others at risk.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don’t overthink it, this isn’t about you. Other people’s hardships or gains don’t invalidate yours. Be safe, try to get some rest ?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im a mechanic. Considered essential but I have no work because of all this. I'd be making a hell of a lot more if I got laid off.

6 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 1

It varies by area but it's not too bad where I am plus we cut out all th hourly guys and another 5 took a leave so it hasn't been too bar

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol if federal comes through I'll make 150% my normal income. At 60hrs a week.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I plan to throw my car at my local dealership's service shop. Shock swap, o2 sensor swap, swaybar check, and of course, checking bushings.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the least I could do to help them NOT go out of business, especially after what the Feds did with the small business loan bullshit.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I moved 2 yrs ago and still haven't found a mechanic that will do the minimum.AC went out and I got some stim $ but nobody to trust

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pending on the vehicle, ac work is not hard but it is time consuming and the parts are expensive.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find a good independent that’s just 1 or 2 guys preferably that specialize in your brand.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The flat rate guy at my (very small) shop actually quit. Now it’s just me and the FNG (we’re both hourly).

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My brother is the most trained mechanic in his shop, and he's doing oil changes right now because they have such little work. "Essential"

6 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Well if they have the ppl only able to do oil changes working, there'll be issues when say, transmission issues come in.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The problem is they work flat rate so when the jobs don't come in, they don't get paid, and they're not coming in because it's not essential

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The experienced people are more essential. If you were manager, would you rather keep your best ppl paid and happy? Or the brand new person?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Again I'm not denying that, but there is no business coming in which is why the high end techs are doing oil changes, to TRY and make 1/?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In Canada you'd be eligible for the 2000$ a month if your income was severely reduced due to covid in spite of still being "at work".

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ya that definitely seems like it should be a thing in the US if it isn’t

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ive been having issues with my truck and have been putting off fixing it myself because of how much time it would take but im considering-

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Taking it to my mechanic with my stimulus money. I figured he could use the business right now and i need to have a backup vehicle running

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In CA if you even have decreased hours of operation at work you can apply for partial unemployment

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dont stress it, it's just the way it worked out.

Ah the Fat Lee era

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

They were dark times indeed. SO SAY WE ALL. Still remember wondering what Ronald D Moore was thinking with the fat suit. Still love BSG

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

SyFy is currently marathon airing the entire series, a good move by them in these dark times.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dualla deserved better.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've had friends disregard my opinions because "you don't get it, you're at home playing it safe while the big boys are out here". It hurts,

6 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Like I'm some leech, some lazy bum, because the government finally looked out for us and I was lucky enough to receive it and not them.. :/

6 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Tell them "Big boys don't cry".

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tell them to fuck off

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

They're mad, and they aren't being mature enough to direct their feelings appropriately, so they're just taking it out on you.

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

dude, you were lucky, they weren't, the end. If anything, don't listen to those people, because if the situation was reversed, (1/?)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

do you think they would come and help you financially ? i don't know them, yet i already know the answer. (2/3)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have a good day and protect that money with jealousy ! (3/3)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"the big boys" could be anyone from a grocery store clerk to a doctor my dude. You're doing fine!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't believe you engineered this exploitative capitalist system that puts profits before people. You bastard.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don’t feel bad, I’m in a weird boat with $ right now, but I’m glad to know you’re home safe and can still take care of yourself

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck that. Fucking enjoy the safety net like the rest of the world!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now fine better friends

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Findddd

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Never feel bad having to use a safety net you put tax money into. Unemployment, WIC, food stamps, etc. They are all there to help people 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 you should never feel shame having to use it when you need it since you helped create it for yourself and everyone else who couldn't.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Key word: and not them. They’re sour they aren’t in the same shoes. Like a kid not wanting to play anymore because they didn’t get their way

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

And in fairness, it’s kind of understandable. I would hope for low wage essential workers to be able and get a boost, too. Money > thank you

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I guess Its hard for me to grasp that concept because I was raised to always be happy for people when they have good things happen.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Envy/jealousy is very ugly...

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"friends"

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh, I know. They're acquaintances, at best. People stopped being my friend after I succeeded and they didnt. Its saddening

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don’t feel guilty. I just got hired permanently at the place where I temp because the food we produce is apparently in high demand right now

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The last store I went to was one I'd never been to before. Found it there. The next day they closed due to employees having Covid19.
