I don’t give a fuck if the meat is given to hungry villagers and you get to keep the head.

Killing animals because you want a trophy to mount over your fireplace makes you the human equivalent of rancid, sun-dried smegma.

Maybe if you set out to.kill something, and it ends up killing you, its not that weird and maybe a little bit your fault!

If you go up against an herbivore with a high powered rifle and lose, you deserve what you get.

Nope. The urge to hunt is baked into our DNA. Dude was one of us, an imperfect human.

And the buffalo got to kill a millionaire for free. Lucky.

Good! Love that for the Cape buffalo. Eat shit, you insecure man baby

I hope he suffered

How do you feel about hunting seasons that are managed and controlled by the Department of Fish and Wildlife to manage and sustain populations?

For example: hunting lion fish in the Caribbean is highly encouraged. I took part in multiple hunts while diving in Bonaire and the local restaurants will cook it for you for free.

That's the contract, isn't it? This time, against all the grossly stacked odds, the "hunter" got his.

Good on you, Buff.

I heard some African countries exploit these people by allowing limited access to their uncommon wildlife populations, asking for big money to shoot some (few) without endangering the population. But that’s the only „good“ (and even that’s not really „good“) thing i could find about it. If you need food and hunt an animal, preferably with a fast kill, i have absolutely no problem with. But for a trophy on the wall? Sorry, but screw you. I wished those poorer countries wouldn’t have to do this…

How much did the buffalo pay to hunt him down?

Chief Bogo came around to settle the score.

You have a herd of buffalo in a third world country with no functional military and very limited law and order.

Buffalo keep showing up dead with the heads sawed off, rotting on the ground, because rich fuckers are going on safari illegally and you can't stop them.

Why WOULDN'T you charge them 50k for a hunting license with regulations ensuring the animals killed got used as much as possible? Then use some of that money to fund enforcement. It's harm reduction, if done right.

Hope it mounted him as a trophy like in farside.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's nuance to this.

We can't tell the lions "hey, can you take out THIS animal RIGHT HERE?" But a wealthy hunter bringing their wealth in? They can pay for the license, the villagers who maintain the hunting area, the drivers and everything else. AND can take out the problematic bull.

I went to Kenya and we drove by a herd of buffalo. Those guys don't want to eat you; they just want to kill you.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dont mind the hunt. I hate the glorification of it.

5 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It’s really not a sport when you are using a gun. The gun is an automatic death device. If someone is using a spear or a sword…. There’s something on the line and it takes a fuck load of effort.

Old "news"?

I don’t think someone deserves to die just because they’re a hunter. Big game hunts often fund the conservation efforts necessary to preserve endangered species.

That said, yeah, if you’re trying to kill something and it kills you, that seems like a pretty fair death.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usually in these hunts they target a sick one, an old one soon to go or one without a herd. Stuff like that and then use the money for conservation. Usually more of the animals are saved with the money overall.

Humans are animals, and I mean I'm generally against hunting people. But... damn it... those sniper tourists, they ones who go to 3rd world war torn countries and kill women and children for fun, so they can play out their sniper fantasies my murdering the innocent.... those are people 100% deserve to be hunted for sport.

A lot of those preserves can only function by selling the rights to hunt to a handful of individuals. You kind of get your choice between: let the animal go extinct or manage the hunts. As far as the dude getting killed by the buffalo: Nature's gonna hit back.

Ducks unlimited is the most effective wildlife conservation organization in the world. Lots of blue collar members. Funded 100% by hunters. They return to nature wetlands that can't be accessed for hunting.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is some unforunate creedance to hunters being some of the greatest contributors to conservation.

Like the migratory bird act was and is strongly supported by hunters. A lot of game reserves which are large conservation locations are paid for by game hunters.

Now are a lot of them scum still, yes. but at the same time it can be done responsibly

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wonder how much the buffalo paid.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 bucks

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Meh I feel not so bad he is dead and the money is more important for conservation, it will pay many guards salaries to keep poachers out that would kill much more.

5 days ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

Yup and they normally select troublesome animals, seeing as they Buffalo got the hunter, that seems to track

5 days ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

A lot of people forget that these trophy hunts are usually put on by the wildlife park for that reason.

5 days ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Isn't part of the reason why older black rhinos get hunted is because their fertility goes down quite a bit as the age, but they still have the instincts to breed & It causes them to attack & chase off younger fertile males?

5 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Buffalo/bison also have that issue. Local conservation put a hit out on the local ornery old bastard of a herd a few years back. The funding from the lottery for the hunt was amazing.

5 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Genuinely asking, is it more okay when the primary purpose was to eat the animal? Like I deer hunted, but mostly to fill the freezer up. That and deer population in western PA is destructively overpopulated. Only got more than one the first time I went out when I was young and the second one we have a program here where it helps the needy. Thats cool right? Also this guy got karma'd.

5 days ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Chronic Wasting Disease is a terrible thing to see in deer. Often a result of overpopulation.

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think OP is mad about the intentions of the hunter. If you go hunting with the mindset of "Heh heh, I get to kill something. I get to watch it die" then it doesn't matter what happens to the body, you're a fucked up person.
If you go with the mindset of "I'm going to get lunch in a way that helps an overpopulated species" then you're fine.

5 days ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yup this

I don't have a problem with hunting for meat, since it's more ethical than factory farmed meat... the only people that have a leg to stand on to criticize deer hunting are vegans and vegetarians, otherwise it's pretty ridiculous to condemn hunters while eating meat from our horrible system.

5 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Vegans and vegetarians don't have a leg to stand on with deer hunting, because banning it means severe over population of deer and they starve to death. Hunting is humane as long as you're not baiting and/or trapping.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These nimrod soybean humpers think it’s more humane for a white tail deer to die to starvation or increased automobile collisions than for you to take an ounce of enjoyment from hunting.

4 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Eh, you have to be careful on accidents as a reason. Many times it’s insurance wanting to lessen payouts and ends up in creating an under-populated herd too.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The Department of Fish and Wildlife manages and issues hunting licenses based on population monitoring. If the insurance companies are “thinning the heard” outside of the regulated allotment for the year that is poaching, a federal crime.

People hog hunt in the south with no intent of eating them because they are an invasive species that destroys the environment and they have a high rate of reproduction

5 days ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

The national forest here actually discourage hunting by outsiders because the hogs have learned to scatter and not come back. They try to trap the while sound at once.

My family owns a few hundred acres up in northern CA. Feral pigs are a huge problem: They root around in the hillsides, which causes erosion and soil loss, they're aggressive, they breed quickly, they're clever... it's a nightmare.

I carry a sidearm when I'm up there. Not because of the bears (they're scared and run away as soon as they know you're there) or the mountain lions (I'm too big to be prey), but for the goddamn feral pigs.

5 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Meh. I don't care that much as long as it's a humane kill, it doesn't go to waste and it's not endangered. Animals in the wild live better lives than big ag livestock. Is the guy still a shitbird? Yeah, just go to Michigan and shoot a deer, we're overpopulated up here and if we don't keep them in check they starve. Anyhow, I'm not going to read about him, but I'm going to imagine he got one of those buffalo horns up the ass and bled to death.

5 days ago | Likes 117 Dislikes 5

Add to that overpopulated and minus endangered. Because it doesn't have to be non-endangered to make it ethically greenlit for hunt sport. And we all know that "feeds the village" is a giant buffalo shit to convince the people they're *actually* a generous people. Rich has a big tendency to portray itself as some sort of saviour or philanthropist. Although, I have a high suspicion it is more about convincing themselves than it is about reputation.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Well the issue is that billionaires *are* an endangered species. Their population is so low they don't have enough genetic diversity to avoid the dangers of inbreeding. On top of that, every billionaire killed does go to waste because the buffalo don't eat them and they're toxic to all natural habitats.

Hunting can be morally justifiable and even necessary. But it's as much of a sport as sneaking up on you in a dark parking lot and stabbing you is a boxing match.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I completely agree accept id argue that some domesticated food animals live a better life than the wild ones. Anything free range. Wildlife isn't exactly easy breezy and life expectancy is short and brutal.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I too have little desire to read about him but conservation groups will sometimes let people pay a fee to hunt, exactly like you said, as population control or if dangerous animals are starting to extend their habitats into villages and such. Then they solve the problem and pocket the rich persons money to further the conservation efforts. If the dude was poaching then fuck that. If he was given permission by the correct organization to give those permissions, this is a win/win/win

5 days ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

is it a win if someone providing money to conservation efforts dies thus making it less likely other people will take up the offer to provide money in the future?

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

I highly doubt that dude dying will dissuade other people from doing it. And he wasn't like donating... he was paying to amuse himself. The rich will keep wanting to take advantage of legal safari hunts. The conservationists will keep using that fact to get money and guide people who otherwise would be poachers to channel their energies to sectors that actually help the local animal and human populations. Perfect solution, probably not. Clever solution, yeah. Alternative? Worse

5 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I mean people say that, but like does it really help? Like a charity taking 90% of the funds is it really helping or just creating an administration economy.

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

The alternative tends to be unrestricted poaching, so usually it's helping.

5 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This. We can preach utopic solutions until the cows come home but none of us have an Infinity Gauntlet to snap and just solve everything on a whim. There are many subjects I feel this way about... people sit there and say "yeah but why don't you just make everything perfect by tomorrow afternoon." In the conservation efforts to which I was referring, a group of experts in their field decided it was the best thing to do. Not infallible but none of us are working that job in that part of the world
