Headline from 2040AD: Mankind extinction imminent -- Runaway population of cave lions followed reintroduction by idiot scientists

They're so busy trying to figure out if they CAN, but have they thought about if they SHOULD?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Theyre doing this with wooly mammoths too, to save the tundra from thawing. Really interesting

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is how we get Jurassic park.........do you want Jurassic park????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like I read something about DNA only surviving for 500 years or so.

Their first use will be selling them as pets to billionaires in the middle east.

Trump will take credit.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

OMG has anyone alerted Uwe Boll?!?!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would one do that? Didn't you see Jurassic Park?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You want cave lions, this is how you get cave lions. I guess, I'm not a scientist.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What ever happened to scientist doing something of the sort for mammoths with elephants

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why though?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you want cave lions....because that is how you get cave lions.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think that's the goal.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah.. what can go wrong

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

B-but we spared no expense!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

actually less than you'd think. so long as if ever released its done in a proper area it'd be the same as any other large cat species.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm not sure bringing cave lions back is a good idea

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean, at the rate humans are degrading this planet, it might be a good idea to perfect these techniques as more contemporary species go ex

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed, but reviving apex predators without also reviving their food chain might result in unintended consequences :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That food chain exists. Cave lions mainly are reindeer.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cave lions went extinct recently and coexisted with today's living species. Nothing really would go wrong

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it wont be a true clone it will be a hybrid

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Like, mixed between the extinct lions and modern lions?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not exactly. It will have the egg of a modern lion, but that egg will have its genetic material removed, then replaced with the extinct one.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

What about the mitochondrial DNA - will that be from the egg donor?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It'll be similar to what they do with egg donors in people. So the DNA will be >1% of the egg donor, really.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I saw a documentary about something like this in '93. Some bio company cloned the ancient predecessors of birds. People died; bad idea.

9 years ago | Likes 565 Dislikes 4

I know this is a joke, but the security in jurassic park is worse than the security in most zoos. Let me have my dinosaurs

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i saw that one too!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It`s a lion, not a dinosaur. :). It will be fine. It is no bigger than a tiger.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew this comment would be here, but I checked just in case it wasn't. +14th point to you good sir.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People died Phil!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That moment when you realize 1993 was 24 years ago...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They spared no expense. Except on security, IT, Park management and transportation

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Literally the whole fucking point of the books was that no amount of preparedness can account for the adaptation of life.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like, seriously, Malcolm's whole fucking character was telling them that shit will go unpredictable the ENTIRE story

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And paying that one guy

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(that was IT)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I figured that was not having more than one guy who knew that stupid fucking system they had

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then they decided to make a friggin' amusement park. At least there's margaritas.

9 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

SAVE THE MARGRITAS

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They tried to create it in LA, ended bad. Time passed, people forgot, they tried again on a far off island. Still ended bad

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

LA? Really I dont remember reading/seeing that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hear they're giving it another go soon. If at first you don't succeed try, try, try, try again.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You know, I'm noticing a trend here...

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

People died but hey, at least we've got some margaritas out of it.
