I love the smell of Kordite in the morning.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Anyone ever popped one with your nail? And it would leave a yellowish burnt color for like 3 days.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, do they sell cap guns anymore? I haven’t seen any for years

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wasted many a day with a few rolls of those and a brick

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Hammer from my grandpas garage. God rest that sweet mans soul.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I shoot muzzleloaders for competition, so I smell this all the time!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, yeah. One of the smells of a 1960s -70s Australian summer. "Caps" and a poorly painted metal pistol...on my every xmas list 1966-73

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

did you get the red ring ones too? or were those more of a late 80s thing?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They were around later ( as you say 80s); I had grown out of my caps phase a long time before. I can recall seeing them & thinking: wt cap?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Used to use a magnifying glass to light them up. Science!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Remember the smell... I remember the smell of burning flesh I had 120 of these in my pocket and they detonated.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Blood everywhere burning flesh and my pocket non existent. I was had to hobble home and when i told my mother she just put peroxide on it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Probably not worth a bandaid. Blood had to be continuously running to require a bandaid

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My uncle has a couple great stories about scraping the dots off those to make bigger explosives. They tend to end with temp. hearing loss.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pepperidge Farms remembers.

I

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mmm burnt sulphur/gunpowder

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ahhh. My child hood. If you fold them one on top of another and push a pin between them. Tape them up and add a wick. Well they bang nice

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Caution : They may go off pushing the pin threw. You have been warned. Or fold them one by one onto a pin. Look it up. It's out there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We used to drop cinder blocks on the rolls !!!! Oh the joy of being a kid- I can smell it now

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had that!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They still sell these.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

v

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fun Fact: These were developed from the Maynard Tape Primer of the Springfield 1855 rifled musket.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I learned something today. Neat!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

YW!... it didn't work very well in the 1855, once it got wet it was useless, so they switched to regular percussion caps.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

cap bomb - cast iron with a place to feed the roll into. Throw it up in the air, it lands head down - pop! Smell the boom!

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I forgot I had one of these!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Until you inevitably put too many caps in and it exploded...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh now I have to try this, how many is too many?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As many that will fit. Going back 30+ years in the memory banks but the key was a tight fold.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have a box of like, 20 rolls on my top shelf I haven't touched in 10 years. What should I do with them?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Roll them out on the sidewalk and find a rock.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See if you can sell them on Ebay. The formulation of caps was changed a while back so new ones are wimpy, Try a roll and if they work Ebay.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not so much "wimpy" as "far less poisonous"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Roll one into a cigar and try smoking it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

hand them out to children.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a smoker... you are evil!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make some pennybombs with then!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take your littlelest Kind of Coin, put a roll of these around that Coin so that its a Ball, then put Tape around it, that its a Tape Ball ->

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then throw that Thing against a hard Surface.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or maybe more then One of these, don't known anymore, its some Time since i did my last ;)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fireplace. Or individual caps in soon-to-be-foemer friends' cigarettes.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As a smoker... you are evil!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your devious..nice harmless prank... maybe.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Take a whole roll and hit it with a hammer. Love that smell!

8 years ago | Likes 273 Dislikes 1

My friend and I destroyed his dad's Dollar Store Hammer with those things

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man. That really does bring back memories of being 9-yrs old.

I remember my ear ringing when I leaned in too close! Awesome!

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a goddamn shotgun blast

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get really vivid memories from that. I wanna go back...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to sound like a gun being shot when I did this. We used to ride our bikes down to the .99c store to buy large amounts of these.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the sound of your ears ringing for the next 2 hours.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

we used cinder blocks to make sure we got all of them

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did this one, got too excited and cracked my head open with the claw of a claw hammer. Blood everywhere, still sounded good though!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I did this with a whole box once and it hurt my ears.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

What?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My heart is melting rn....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Burnt gunpowder. I wonder why it isn't a more popular scent.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

These don't use gunpowder. It's an impact sensitive explosive. Gun powder can't be set off with anything other than heat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe friction?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look up "Armstrong's mixture" also, black powder is incredibly weak in amounts that small. It would make a poof of smoke and that's it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm with the hammer. Surprised I didn't shoot my eye out

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to bust them with my fingernails

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Same....then switch to a coin

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

me too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pussy. I ground my teeth on them.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I did that with your mom's teeth.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

huh, funny that. I always thought it was her meth using that ruined her teeth.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, it was a cumulative effect.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Didn't help her any being British born.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

all the cap guns I had used caps like these:

8 years ago | Likes 971 Dislikes 4

Used to squeeze the contents of one into another. Extra loud!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They had a more satisfying bang, but I always preferred more shots between reloads.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to put these under small rocks in the road ... I know it's a dick move . I was young

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember when they came out with 12 shot caps and it BLEW. MY. MIND. 50% larger clips! (They're more like clips than mags)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

My cousin has a cap rifle that uses those and shooting all six and reloading it is one of the most satisfying things you can do

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I knew only those. How do you even load the paper ones in a gun?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had one that used the caps and not the paper roll, no idea how old it was, but it didn't look like a toy gun....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Remember to wear glove

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We didn’t get gloves, only the faux leather belt & holster.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man, I was so sad when the mechanism of my toy western gun finally broke. It was like my coolest toy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My username sooo relevant. At last!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well look at captain money bags over here.....=)

8 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure you could buy those at the dollar store...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can now, yeah. You're showing your age, or lack thereof.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My parents would get me cap guns but take the caps away immediately

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Couldn't burn yourself on those. Pansy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bought 5 packs, emptied the powder out with a knife then hit it with a hammer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The older style were belt-fed; 30+ rounds before reloading. You were constantly reloading the new caps.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Found recently at Fred Meyer. I use them to train Labradors for hunting. Shoot cap across lawn from pups before feeding then. Pavlovian

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was the Jenny, the Carson, the Sterling, and I think one more I can't remember..?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Roll caps are the superior caps because you could smash them with rocks

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember the blisters from reloading all of them in one day.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I had a gun that used those. Only ever got one shot that worked

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And we're loud as heck.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't matter what kind you had, the caps and the guns were made by Ja-ru

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ja Rule makes rap son not a cap gun

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My younger bro had these, too many duds. Just trying to find a ring that'd pop was their main interest.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So your parents were upper middle class rich huh?

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They weren't that expensive I think. Plus I only got them for carneval.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I was old enough for cap guns, they had these, but my older brothers had guns that used the tape.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't know what the original post pertained to, but my friend had two, silver revolver cap guns that used these. They kicked ass!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Paper ones were great, you missed out. Bet you can't even light the plastic ones on fire?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've seen a lot of shit for someone my age, but never the paper ones before. Guess they were all phased out by the late 90s.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, presumably because plastic ones were safer because kids couldn't get as creative with them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to put these between 2 heavy bolts with a nut holding them together, then throw them. BOLT BANGERS! Man they sounded like a Magnum 44.

8 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

We would get a shit ton of the paper caps and wrap them around a penny untill it was like a marble. Man it was loud.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We just hit them with a hammer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaaa never did a bolt banger but they reminded me of these things http://www.mortartubes.net/161-large_default/throwing-dart-cap-bomb.jpg

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

holy shit I had one of those and used it like....a handful of times lol

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm having trouble visualizing how that makes them explode, but in interested in the details if you're bored enough :)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You screwed 2 bolts together, ie bolt, nut, bolt. But before you screwed in the 2nd bolt you put the cap in and very carefully tightened it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah, so the caps are part squished? Now it's makin sense

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep, you'd cut 1 or 2 ring caps off. Sometimes it'd go off as you'd be tightening it. No real danger but you'd shit your pants nonetheless.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just wrote about bolt bangers! We also made them with normal caps. Are you in the uk?

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yep UK. I reckon if the kids did them today the armed police would be round in a flash.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

At least they wouldn’t get shot like in the states

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Here in NZ we shaved the heads off matches and used those instead. Called them "bolt bombs" fucking dangerous!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's not that hard to make explosives from those

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Right? Totally awesome

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i wonder if anyone ever put them on airsoft pellets for more boom

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was the upgrade

8 years ago | Likes 329 Dislikes 0

I somehow had both without my mum ever buying me one. I think they were my older cousins.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, They were a later evolution. No where near as explosive, nor as cheap as the paper rolls.

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 1

I couldn’t afford either of them

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I used both, paper was cheaper though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They came later, but they weren't an "upgrade" by any means.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. If you can afford it. Now I know where All my childhood saving went

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No way man: /a/BP9Iw - it used those rolls. You can see where it ejected the spent paper near the handle. Full auto yes!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow I totally forgot about these. Memory unlocked, thanks OP! You completed my sidequest.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Would never have known they were the same thing, my friend and i took the revolver gun caps, took the powder out had compression explosions

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We'd fill .22 casings with the stuff, add a fuse, and clamp them shut. It's a wonder no eyes or fingers were lost.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LOL, I got one of these out of the back of a comic book! It was so lame compared to the ad!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i remember the pain... those things hit hard on skin

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here was the less-lethal that I used more often.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I grew up with the roll. But they just sell those now. Just got my son a cap gun at DG.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I was in the transition era. I was fortunate enough to use both

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Same here

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So I was I till little twisted me was found using the rolls as an improvised ant killer

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hmmm I’m intrigued

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

how was that an upgrade? those are terrible.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Loading felt "cooler".

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They worked better in actual cap guns. Not as fun otherwise.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They cost more, so the companies made more money. That's about it. Although the paper ones would misfire more often.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But you got approximately a zillion more bangs so who cares? At least that's how I saw it. I couldn't have them myself anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I could only occasionally play with my friends cap gun, I mean. My parents didn't do toy guns. Only real ones. Which probably sounds

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0
